Montenegro University -- Day [entries|friends|calendar]

college town grad law med military
I'd like to turn to a type of song that people like myself find ourselves subjected to with increasing frequency as time goes on, and that is the college alma mater. You'll find yourself at a reunion of grads, and old undergrads, and eh... somebody will start croaking out one of these things and everyone will gradually join in -- each in his own key, of course -- until the place is just soggy with nostalgia. Well, a typical such song might be called Bright College Days, and might go like this. Bright college days, O carefree days that fly, To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high. Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls. Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit-ur. Here's to parties we tossed, To the games that we lost, We shall claim that we won them some day. To the girls young and sweet, To the spacious back seat of our beat up Chevrolet.

People keep talking about watching the Olympics, and that's cool if watching someone else getting all athletic is your thing. It's not mine though, fuck that shit. Why watch when you could be out there doing all that? I've been training for the zombie 5k on Saturday in Washington, and I'm not bullshitting when I say this is one of the most intense workouts I've had in a while.

Seriously, if not for my military-style training I'd be fucked. I've been so good, too, laying off anything that might impact my performance, eating clean, and just making sure I'm in peak condition. It's crazy, I kinda forgot how good it can feel to get that runner's high. Endorphins, gotta love 'em.

Anyone wanna train with me, or help out? I need people to act as zombies -- both Walking Dead and Dawn of the Dead-type -- to help keep me on my toes. I'll take you out for food or something after.

To anyone coming in my car for the weekend, I'll be leaving Friday morning, camping at the the park Friday and Saturday night, and coming back Sunday. I can fit 3 people (4 if you're willing to squish), but shotgun is reserved unless Jon doesn't want in. It'll be fun, especially with the Apocalypse party taking place that night, so if you're into zombies and shit definitely consider joining up. You don't need to race to attend the afterparty, but people should race with me 'cause it'll be fucking insane.

Looking to spar with someone -- interested? Only if you won't cry if I hit too hard, because that shit's annoying.

Who isn't watching the Olympics? Put your hands up, I'm curious.

And tell me I'm not the only one who didn't know Montenegro was a country. I didn't know it existed until opening ceremonies, which is the only thing of the Olympics that I've seen. Of this year, that is.

I have 'Sexy and I know It' stuck in my head. I heard it on the radio before work and have been humming it all day. I may have even danced a little. I'm not a fan of it, but that's how it works, right?

I think I'm going to grab my iPod and go walk my dog.

I know this isn't of interest for the majority of you, but I've finished my line. That's also the reason why I haven't been around for a while on the boards. That and tanning outside. Who would have thought that this year's summer would turn out to be this beautiful?

Hey gamin, would you like to look over my new line and tell me what you think?

I feel like this is the best summer I've had in years, it's been really amazing. And yes, I mean that even though there was that one week where everything was dark and weird. I've made some excellent friends, been on some incredible trips, have an awesome guy in my life, and next month I'll be going to Budapest -- can things get any cooler?

I saw this quote and it made my night. Yes, I am that easy to please ~ "My heart is a sheath full of arrows and my mouth is the bow. The heart only fires what the brain truly knows." - Ryan Keith Follese'

Something I think every man should read -

Tom Ford's five easy lessons in how to be a gentleman »

1. You should put on the best version of yourself when you go out in the world because that is a show of respect to the other people around you.

2. A gentleman today has to work. People who do not work are so boring and are usually bored. You have to be passionate, you have to be engaged and you have to be contributing to the world.

3. Manners are very important and actually knowing when things are appropriate. I always open doors for women, I carry their coat, I make sure that they’re walking on the inside of the street. Stand up when people arrive at and leave the dinner table.

4. Don’t be pretentious or racist or sexist or judge people by their background.

5. A man should never wear shorts in the city. Flip-flops and shorts in the city are never appropriate. Shorts should only be worn on the tennis court or on the beach.
