I'd like to turn to a type of song that people like myself find ourselves subjected to with increasing frequency as time goes on, and that is the college alma mater. You'll find yourself at a reunion of grads, and old undergrads, and eh... somebody will start croaking out one of these things and everyone will gradually join in -- each in his own key, of course -- until the place is just soggy with nostalgia. Well, a typical such song might be called Bright College Days, and might go like this. Bright college days, O carefree days that fly, To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high. Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls. Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit-ur. Here's to parties we tossed, To the games that we lost, We shall claim that we won them some day. To the girls young and sweet, To the spacious back seat of our beat up Chevrolet.

[And then Aidan finally comes crawling back to the journals after an extended time away, reluctant to poke his head back onto the networks. It's never really brought him anything except for an extended headache, but he's received a pointed message that maybe all RAs should stay accessible, in-touch on the networks, and engaged in the lives of their tenants. Well, then. Once more unto the breach:]

the madness never ends at this school, does it? does anyone know if the faculties accept absences as a result of reincarnate-related strangeness? i'm assuming they must; this is, after all, a university tailored for reincarnates & the problems they face. e.g. hallucinating santa clauses; blinding fogs; altered emotions; inexplicable inebriation; mysterious everythings.

+ a random roll-call, out of curiosity: how many of you can turn into animals, & which type? if you're comfortable sharing, that is.

WHO'S WITH ME????

It's amazing how little you Americans know about the history of your own country. Even when being lectured about it.

The quizzes have been graded and posted online. Some of you should be glad I throw out the lowest quiz grade. For others, it won't matter. If you don't know who you are, then passing a survey history course is the least of your problems.

Remember, there is still a paper (due April 20th) and the final exam. Try to get that paper in on time. If you don't, I might decide not to grade it.

Jack?

I think we should talk.

has anyone else begun looking for summer internships? i don't think there's too many opportunities here for art history majors, so i've been looking into new york city. i've only been there once, but so many amazing museums! the guggenheim, the met, the moma, the cloisters... i think if i have any post-grad plans, it's definitely living there.

and paris! i'd love to live in paris. ♥

anyways, speaking of art: what's your favorite painting? this is mine.

GUESS WHAT TODAY IS, MY DARLINGS.

Oui oui, it is Tolkien Reading Day! Are you not the smartest bunch of people I have had the pleasure of meeting? Très intelligent.

To share, one of my favorite poems by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien.
All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
I think I may have an impromptu party to celebrate and all my guests shall have to dress as hobbits!
