I'd like to turn to a type of song that people like myself find ourselves subjected to with increasing frequency as time goes on, and that is the college alma mater. You'll find yourself at a reunion of grads, and old undergrads, and eh... somebody will start croaking out one of these things and everyone will gradually join in -- each in his own key, of course -- until the place is just soggy with nostalgia. Well, a typical such song might be called Bright College Days, and might go like this. Bright college days, O carefree days that fly, To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high. Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls. Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit-ur. Here's to parties we tossed, To the games that we lost, We shall claim that we won them some day. To the girls young and sweet, To the spacious back seat of our beat up Chevrolet.

[On principle, Fergus loathed Saint Patrick's Day. He loathed the sheer idea of it. He loathed how Americans bastardized it. He loathed green beer, green eggs and ham, the wearin' o' the green, and people completely misunderstanding the 'luck of the Irish'. He was angry, and belligerent, and he didn't mind letting it be known.

When the audio feed clicks in, Fergus can be heard singing along to this song. Exuberantly, heavy brogue and all.]

Come out, ye black an' tans,
Come out an' fight me like a man,
So yer wives how you won medals down in Flanders,
Tell 'er 'ow the IRA made ye run like hell away,
From the green an' lovely lanes of Killeshandra...

Fair warning' t' all you who think tomorra's all about gettin' yer drink on an' actin' like a loon - Saint Patrick didn't drive no snakes out o' Ireland, that's a euphemism for him bringin' Christianity t' the fair folk an' drivin' the druids away. An' unless ye were born in Ireland or have a parent 'r granparent who was, ye ain't Irish. So don' come up t' me wearin' yer kiss me shirts an' buttons expectin' t' get a laugh, ye faker. An' if yer English, you would do well t' keep outta my way 'r you'll be tastin' a fist for yer troubles.

Ooh, ah, up the Ra!

[the last words are shouted as this song starts playing before the feed cuts out.]

So. I was tinkering with the idea of starting another dancing club, but with this one being more centered around the constant learning of new styles and whatnot. So maybe we could start with jazz and then move onto South African tribal? I don't know. And it could also be a place for all you artistic and creative types out there to really get a chance at choreographing your own numbers? Dance offs?! Maybe learning the culture and history of the dance too? That'd be so boss. Music students could collaborate and compose music for us to dance to? Dance style appropriate, obviously.

Fuck. I've got too many ideas.

But! The point is, I suck at this whole organizing shit and would really like someone to be on board who could help me out with the organizing, creating and keeping-it-alive thing. That'd be cool.

Anyone up for fun times?

This weekend features a so-called holiday that I find pointless and disheartening. There's something so inherently dour about knowing promising students will most likely be spending their weekend in an alcoholic haze when they could be indulging in other, more interesting activities.

Ah well, I suppose I shouldn't whinge. People do have a tendency to become far more amusing when their inhibitions are lowered, and that means more fun for me~

Dearest, I feel like I've hardly seen you. What have you been up to?

I'm bored, you should entertain me~

For the love of whatever various deity or deities you happen to worship [or whatever you happen to hold dear], please stop e-mailing me complete gibberish.

I do try to be as accommodating as possible, and I understand that not everyone has the time to write a few sentences to tell me why they missed class/couldn't do an assignment/don't know where the classroom is.

But if I get another e-mail that frequently substitutes "u" for "you" or contains the abbreviation "omg" anywhere in it, I may seriously consider ignoring you.

On that note, enjoy your weekend. Don't drink and drive, and all that nonsense.

To those of you who aren't hip and cool, the Chicago River is dyed green every St Patrick's day, and has been since about 1961, when the plumbers union dyed it green to see where illegal pollutants were coming from. Because it was a hit, and everyone likes the color green, the plumbers union continued to dye it green every year since then. But the dye was toxic to the fish and people, so now it's around 40 tons of vegetable dye they dump in. Orrrrrr it could be ground up leprochauns and shamrocks, dontcha know!

And this has been your education fact of the day. Thank you, thank you.

I don't think a lot of people can claim this, but I just overheard the wackiest conversation between two squirrels. Talk about steamy love lives that I really didn't want to know about.

I can guess that not everyone has enjoyed their first week back from break. Nose to the grind, such as it is. Unfortunately, all I can say is that as a student of academia, this is all to be expected, your hard work and perseverance will ultimately pay out in the very end – some sooner than later, but scholarship is an accomplishment that rewards those who seek it.

In the interim until finals, I hope that everyone will continue to study and if any of my students need help, do take advantage of my office hours or Mr. Martin's.

I just rebeat Final Fantasy X. I don't know how I feel.

Who's your favorite character? I really liked Auron. He's really co He's really cool.

What happened to Spring? I go to New York for break, it's pretty damn normal for early March, come back into the Mountains and it's fucking hot.

My most interesting development in Paris was learning my eldest sister is planning on having a third child. I'm going to be an uncle for a fifth time, and I confess to not knowing how to feel about this.

Jacked up my shoulder in Close Combat Team practice today, and possibly my wrist, but the instructor agreed that the bastard deserved it. I gave him fair warning that if he called me cutie, honey, pint-sized, any other variation on short, or attempted to rest his elbow on my head again I would break something of his, and I never go back on my word. His nose will heal and he'll probably thank me later. Most girls think scars and broken bones are sexy, gives character or some shit.

The instructor said if I keep up this attitude he could see me making an effective drill instructor. And my uncle said I had no fucking ambition, shows what he knows.

Huh, I should probably get this looked at before work. The boss has a room that's getting remodeled and he told me if I can lift the sledgehammer I can wreck that room all night long. Anyone want to come destroy shit with me?

Please drink responsibly this holiday. And here are the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning thanks to where I did my residency:

Confusion, stupor
Vomiting
Seizures
Slow breathing (less than eight breaths a minute)
Irregular breathing (a gap of more than 10 seconds between breaths)
Blue-tinged skin or pale skin
Low body temperature (hypothermia)
Unconsciousness ("passing out"), and can't be roused

Please don't leave a person alone like this and instead call the health center. We won't ask any questions regarding your age and will get your friend the appropriate care.

If you aren't busy Sunday night, might you be able to watch over Georgia?
