I'd like to turn to a type of song that people like myself find ourselves subjected to with increasing frequency as time goes on, and that is the college alma mater. You'll find yourself at a reunion of grads, and old undergrads, and eh... somebody will start croaking out one of these things and everyone will gradually join in -- each in his own key, of course -- until the place is just soggy with nostalgia. Well, a typical such song might be called Bright College Days, and might go like this. Bright college days, O carefree days that fly, To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high. Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls. Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit-ur. Here's to parties we tossed, To the games that we lost, We shall claim that we won them some day. To the girls young and sweet, To the spacious back seat of our beat up Chevrolet.

Dear Female Moaning Obnoxiously Loud During Intercourse,

Not only do I have to go to work today, write up law term vocab cards, prepare for an end of chapter math quiz, help one of my sisters grasp the Italian language she should just stop while she's ahead and restock on veggies/fruit for my juicer-- I also have lie detection.

Simmer in that for a bit.

Sincerely,
Someone Who Knows it Really Wasn't That Great

It is Sunday, but I want to blow off some steam. Any ideas?

I hate Sundays. Please just let me sleep in for once.

I haven't taken the time to introduce myself on here! I'm Kait and I study astronomy.

We have a lab coming up dependent on cloud cover, that we have to do at nine to eleven at night, which I am very much looking forward to. I love using the telescopes. Studying astronomy during the day always feels a little strange.

My mother sent me a care package full of tea from Pike Place Market. It's different than English tea, a little stronger with flavour that punches you in the tongue, but I like it! I'm going to make myself a pot of white peach and coconut if anyone's interested! I have plenty!

When you're in the library, watch out for wayward returns trolleys. Those things could be the death of you. They're sneaky and below eye-level, especially if you have your nose in Dante's Inferno.

Or possibly a different book you happen to be reading at the time.

Hey hey!~

So Finnegan's will be holding round one of Montenegro Idol this coming Saturday! Round one will consist of the judges choosing ten people out of the masses who will go on to round two to compete for the coveted title of Montenegro Idol!

Sorry, I can't give you a record deal, but you can have a night to perform with the house band as their lead singer. And a whole lot of beer if you're of age.

It's going to be a heck of a lot of fun and anyone can audition and sing in the first round so come on down, y'all! You have a week to prepare, surely that's enough time! I'm stocking up on fried food and drinkies! Forget about classes for a night and let loose!

...the singing kind of letting loose preferred, please!

Ugh. I can't wait for winter to end. I'm so sick of seeing people in sweatpants.

Just because it's freezing balls outside doesn't mean you have to look terrible. Seriously.

I think we found ourselves a moronic twat.

Haven't spend long here, but I'm liking it. Even though it's winter, the scenery is beautiful. And the mountains! The biggest mountains where I'm from are the twenty foot dirt piles outside newer subdivisions.

You know what...I think I might just try skiing just so I have an excuse to get on the mountain every weekend. Since I can't hunt because the dorms usually frown on having weapons in the rooms. And my crossbow is at my dad's. And I have nowhere to store the meat. So, skiing it is!

Anyone out there ski and can teach me?

Oh, and I'm Emma.

Galactic Empire State of Mind [29 Jan 2012|09:43pm]

In the absence of wanting to talk about school or my weekend, I figure I'll share a little story with everyone.

Last July, in need of a job, I answered an ad to be a booth girl at San Diego Comic Con. One of my friends was working a Star Wars-related booth, and since all it involved was dressing in a costume and giving out stuff I figured 'why not'? He even said I could sing a bit, so long as I kept it on topic. Just so you know, there's a lot of parodies and songs about Star Wars.

All things considered I wish I'd gotten pictures or videos, because I make one hot Slave Leia.. anyway, as I was distracting myself I stumbled upon this video and it's epic.

So anyway, now I really want to watch the original trilogy. Anyone interested?

Slight miscalculation, Kitty Kat. Seem to have misread my schedule. Never said I was the greatest at navigating these things.

Anyway. About that class Tuesday morning? Looks like it's not happening. Lucky for you and me.

:]

Video Post [29 Jan 2012|10:24pm]
[The video opens on a standard dorm room, quiet except for the standard sounds of movement, and Tim, bedheaded and sleepy-eyed. He attempts to fix his hair for a moment, then huffs and gives up, and begins to sign. Captions flash across the bottom of the screen.]

Hi, my name is Tim, I've been here a while but I haven't done a lot. At Christmas my mother told me I should make friends, so here I am trying to make friends. I'm not very good at it. Sorry. You can ask me things if you want or not. I'll try and be more conventional from now on.

[He stops signing, looks confused for a minute, makes a few aborted signs, then leans forward and stops the video.]

[29 Jan 2012|10:26pm]
Anyone into spoken word? Il y a open mic at The Tea Lounge in college town this Friday at 7 PM. There's also going to be half off on drinks, so I suggest you go and either 1) participate or 2) drink some of that tea. Unlike Muddy Waters, it's not overrun with hipster run-off from the university, and all kinds of people are welcome. They also serve beer so you should all go. Moi will be performing, so à mon avis, it is an event worth going to.

And I might head to a bar after the performances are over with some of my fellow artists, so if you are keen on partying with some really interesting writers, I suggest you join us.

Speaking of poetry, I have been reading a lot of it. Some favorite lines I have found:
    The weight of love
    Has buoyed me up
    Till my head
    Knocks against the sky.
    - A Love Song, William Carlos Williams

    Ark of our passion, inflaming
A hummock of dark, as with torches,
When your blind blood was quickened
An epoch of ocean still slept in its gardens…
    - Leviathan, Pablo Neruda

… since you would save none of me, I bury some of you.
    - The Funeral, John Donne
Favorite poems, anyone?
