Who: Doreen Green and Steve Rogers
What: Dee is sad and runs into the Captain
Where: The Kitchen
When: Mid-morning

Doreen was a particularly chipper girl on most days, and today was a day that she had been waiting for since she got here! It was the day that her best friend finally arrived, only this Kamala, this magnificent Ms Marvel had no idea who she was. She had handled Daisy not knowing her, she had handled America not knowing who she was, She had dealt with Carol freaking Danvers not knowing who she was. But Kamala? That was heartbreaking. Dee had always had a little trouble making friends, her personality could be off putting, and more often than not the whole talking to squirrels and having a tail thing… that tended to put people off.

“I know it’s not her fault,” Doreen whined to Tippy Toe and their new friend, a grey squirrel named Coconut. She threw a handful of peanuts on the counter for them, before moving to the fridge and pulling out a pack of chocolate pudding. She frowned, sitting on the counter with them. She listened to Tippy chitter hopeful words at her, noticing when Captain America walked in.

Normally, she would be thrilled, and even still she flashed him a smile. “You’re right, Tippy, he does smell different.”

Steve gave a tired smile as she mentioned them meeting in her universe. He set the coffee pot back down in the cradle, and turned to doctor his mug up with a little cream and sugar.

"Unfortunately, I don't know him. At least, I don't think." He stirred. "Dee it is. And hello, Tippy-Toe. Hello, Coconut." Steve was the picture of politeness, even when he was being introduced to squirrels.

"How are you all settling in?"

"Miserable." Dee said, between spoons of pudding.

"None of my team is from the same universe. Daisy is older. America doesn't know who I am. Kamala is from some alternate universe where she is an Avenger without me." Dee grumped. "Meanwhile, I'm just back to being the annoying weird kid with the tail and the squirrels."

"Oh." Steve finished doctoring his coffee and lifted it to take a sip. It was delicious--just the pick-me-up that he needed.

"I'm sorry, Dee. I had no idea." He knew Daisy, but he hadn't spent much time with the others. Unfortunately, he had no idea how to help her with that problem.

"Well, I don't think you're annoying or weird. And the tail and the squirrels are really neat."

"I'm pretty sure you are required to say stuff like that." Dee told Steve with a small roll of her eyes. It was nice of course, and it that respect her reminded her of Rayshaun. It made sense. It was almost a comfort in her loneliness.

"It's just... I don't have a lot of friends at home, but the ones I have are great. And now... three of them don't even know who I am. And sure, maybe America always thought I was annoying anyway, but she still put up with me." She sort of gave him a half hearted shrug.

"Just because I'm required to say stuff like that doesn't make it any less true." He lifted his coffee to sip again from it, then lowered the mug to hold with both hands.

"Oh," Steve felt his heart breaking a little for her. It was hard to be alone, even harder still to be here where friends didn't know you. They all came from so many different worlds that it was impossible to know who would and who wouldn't recognize a person.

"I'm sure she still would? Be friends with you, I mean. And there are a lot of young people who hang around here. I'm sure you can make some new friends?"
