After dinner and wine, Kate and Scott left the restaurant to go for a walk in the nearby park. While Kate was expecting (and somewhat fearing) a huge, dark park, it was well lit with streetlamps, and there were a lot of people about: jogging, playing on the play equipment, walking dogs… It was cool but not cold. Kate felt warm and safe.

She watched the sidewalk in front of them as they stepped up onto the curb and headed into the park. “It finally feels like summer.”

	"Most people were alright, but the teenagers could be pretty bad." Scott could understand kids throwing tantrums -- they were kids. "Thank you," Scott said, the air of relief present in his voice. "The movie's okay, even though they recast Carrie Bishop." Scott wasn't even sure how big Kate was into V-Mars. Hopefully he wasn't weirding her out. He was just heavily invested. Who wouldn't be when they had plenty of time to watch it and mull it over alone while eating their breakfast cereal?

"I think you'd make a great Veronica Mars, by the way," he says. "You just need to find your Wallace and Mac. Backup." A beat. "And maybe a Backup, too." Backup being the name of Veronica's dog.

	"I guess that makes sense," Kate replied. "We share custody. Lucky came with me to So Cal." The air was growing cooler now as night settled in. Many of the people in the park were heading home. 	Heat flashed across Kate’s cheeks. Her fingers tightened for just a moment around his elbow, giving a momentary squeeze, then she released it.
