It should have been an easy night on patrol - easy by Gotham's standards, that is. Batman was attending a break-and-enter at a warehouse on the docks. The thugs appeared to belong to Penguin’s crew but the villain himself was nowhere in sight. Probably back in his club so he could claim he was unaware when the GCPD came knocking.
Batman crept across the beams along the roof, hiding in the shadows, listening to the thugs bicker among themselves. After a few moments, he got the drop on them and was able to render them all unconscious.
All, that is, but one.
Batman followed the remaining thug - the apparent leader of the group - up to a gangway that ran the length of the warehouse. The thug paused by a detonator and began to arm it - clearly they weren’t just satisfied with stealing from the warehouse but they were going to blow it up too. Batman acted quickly, throwing a batarang at the detonator to disconnect it. The thug then turned and fired upon the Dark Knight in desperation.
BANG!!
A single shot whizzed passed, missing Batman but hitting a round of charges behind him. The thug took off and Batman leapt from the gangway, throwing himself through a large window and aiming for the murky waters of the Gotham harbor below.
However, the splash never came. Instead, Batman found himself hitting a solid floor with a hard oof as the air rushed from his lungs on impact. Confusion marred the Dark Knight’s features as his eyes darted around the room he landed in. It was a stark contrast to the gloomy streets of Gotham.
Hearing a noise, Batman was to his feet in a matter of seconds - poised, ready to fight. But the sight he was met with only rendered him more confused. “Dick?”
