IC/OOC: Ice Takeover

After all the departures a distraction is on the cards for a lot of people. As promised, Dylan has booked them time on the ice as a group and Bucky's made a few Toyota Highlanders available for transport. They looked like a motorcade when they rolled out of the compound! There are fast food options at the rink, and a decent coffee bar, plus actual bar but best not drink and skate. Equipment is available to hire or bring your own along if you have it!

Volunteer A seems to spend half the time on their butt, it doesn't stop them trying though or having fun. By the end of the afternoon, they're much better at staying upright.
Fitz on the other hand is loathe to let go of the wall and spends their time hugging the glass as they make slow progress around the rink, until Courtney lends them a hand and the two skate together.
Lydia has crazy skills, seriously, are you a secret figure skater?
Volunteer E catches the Coach's eye with their fast reflexes in the cage (goal), want to join Dylan's team?
Volunteer F is great with a stick and puck, skating is no problem, they just haven't found the brakes yet. No matter, there are walls and other players to slow them down, right?
Meanwhile in the stands, Volunteer G has given their cocoa an alcoholic upgrade, they’re willing to share with Volunteer H, and the two look very jolly by home time.
“You guys, there’s a Zamboni!” Clint gets his wrists slapped (gently) for getting too close to it.

Barry was there. He's a fairly good skater. The biggest struggle is not using his speed if he starts falling--doesn't want to lightning up the ice?

Sharon sat in the stands with a hot chocolate. It's about a 50/50 whether she doctored it with something a little stronger. ;)

Cath was only there for a little while. She brought cookies! She didn't stay long, because she had to get back to the bakery, but she made sure to give Ray a big hug and pass the cookies out to anyone who wanted one.

Thor was definitely there. I like to think that he was absolutely terrible on skates, spent the majority of the time on his backside, and complained loudly about how silly the whole thing was. ;)

Steve was also there, but he's pretty good on skates. He took it upon himself to help anyone who seemed unsteady on the ice, until the hockey games started... then he would excuse himself and go play. And he played pretty well.

Kate Is a really good skater. She took figure skating and ice dancing classes when she was younger, and it's like riding a bike, right? Though she hasn't played a ton of hockey, I'm sure she joined in on that fun, too.

Yelena showed up, skated a bit, then drank vodka in the stands. She felt antsy being away from Fannie and the puppies for so long.

Lydia is an incredible skater. She was doing spins and twirls and jumps, skating circles around people. Not in a mean way, but she gets into the zone and the world disappears.

Henry was there, too. He's been trying anything and everything to get himself out of these doldrums. And he's mad at himself for being so depressed. He's a good hockey player, and likes spending time with good friends, but he's also struggling.

I'm not sure if Peter was there. TBD. <3

SAM turned up more because he likes to be seen being accessible than because he enjoys ice skating. He's pretty clearly a major beginner but he finds it's a lot easier to adjust to than flying was and gets the hang of basic movement fairly quickly, but in the end he still spends more time off the ice than on it.

ARACELY has never skated before and, as in many things, has way more enthusiasm than skill. She falls a lot. The observant may notice that some of the times she doesn't fall it almost looks like she's floating. In between using the rink for her own personal game of bumper cars she is all over the hot chocolate and sweets.

CASSIE is decent enough. Nothing special. She probably joins the learning hockey part of the rink for a while.

ORORO is actually fairly good. Not on Lydia's level but I'm sure the X-Men have done plenty of ice skating sessions before especially since they can just have Bobby ice up a rink for them any time so she's comfortable with some spins, skating backwards or on one foot, etc.

MAYA's definitely here more for the skating than the social stuff. Probably spends the car ride staring out the window and heads straight for the skate rental when they get there. She's very diligent about making sure they fit right with her prosthetic leg since she obviously can't use foot muscles to do subtle adjustments or anything and once she gets on the ice there's a slight awkwardness to her movements with that leg because of it, but she starts out not bad and after spending some time intently watching the better skaters starts working on more advanced moves, making sure to use her left leg as anchor when needed. By the end of the day she has noticeably significantly improved.

ELSA dabbles on the ice a bit, particularly giving the ice hockey a go, though also spends a lot of time in the stands watching and drinking cocoa. She may be English but the drink is Irish for sure.

The outing is definitely helpful for cheering LAURA up a bit. She has a lot of fun testing how fast she can go and shakes off any crashes pretty much instantly.

Sadly, three of mine were working on a Saturday (Jemma, Ben, and Derek), but *cracks knuckles* here goes the rest!

Clint took one look at that Zamboni and fell in deep, deep lust. But, let's be real, 99% of his attention is absolutely on one particular hot hockey player. He's decent on the ice, but shockingly good with a puck. There might be a tiiiiiiny bit of showing off for his boyfriend involved.

Karli came to this on a whim, but only stayed long enough to be seen. ~~Who said anything about an alibi? That's ridiculous.~~

Kaldur arrived and stayed throughout. He had a very good time. There's a decent chance that he used a touch of Atlantean magic to propel himself along the thin layer of thawed ice on the surface of the rink. More than anything, he came to socialize a bit more than he's been felt comfortable to do in the past.

Nico + Ice + Her Entirely Black Ensemble = not a good mix. But she was in the stands and content to people watch. (and snuggled with her girlfriend and hung out with her roomies, if they were there, too?)

Quentin grew up in Connecticut, so he was used to the ice and snow. That was just about where his familiarity ended, however, and he had no intention of doing his best impression of a newborn foal in the rink, so sitting and watching the hockey parts of things it was!

Zari needed a break from a certain project she'd devoted so much of her time to (Love was totally worth it, however). She skated some, talked to people. Cuddled with her handsome boyfriend, assuming he was there. Snuck looks at her phone way more than most people do in a single day. Drank a bunch of hot chocolate and had cookies and generally tried her best not to think about the true uncertainty of her future in this universe. And she selfied and Insta-ed the heck out of her time there.

Sharon definitely didn't chat with Karli, though they definitely made eye contact. Sharon gave her a nod. She did, however, take as many selfies with Zari as her best friend wanted, and offered up a little Irish for that hot chocolate. Because that's the best way to keep warm, right?

Barry definitely said hi to Quentin when he wasn't on the ice trying not to do an impression of a newborn foal. ;). He hasn't forgotten that they're supposed to hang out. (Dinner, was it?)

Peter probably swung by to say hi to Nico. He's not great, but having Tim there with him helped a lot.

Steve missed Derek, and might have headed home a little early to bug him at the Portal Room.

Dylan was a little overwhelmed honestly that so many people decided to show. He’s really glad the distraction worked at least for a few hours. He’s mostly down the Hockey end of the rink. But mingles off the ice when he takes a drink break.
This is Ray’s first outing since New Years. He hasn’t been around the facility as often either, sticking mostly to his two labs, though he has been giving Cosmo walks around New Asgard. He’s sociable, but perhaps not as outgoing as usual. His skating is ok, but he does fall a couple of times at first.
Bucky is surprisingly good and absolutely won’t tell you about the various ways he could kill people with a skate. Anyone who rode in his car were in for a quick pace.
Peter is there, he drove and is intent on making friends. He’s decent on the ice, but was totally into the various snack offerings.
Courtney Was absolutely loving this, she was all over the ice and played a little hockey too. She would have caught up with everyone regardless of how recently she’d seen them.
Dick tried not to show off, he really did. So he limited his time on the ice, in case the temptation got too much.

Leo was working, as was Clark :(

	Barry would have struck up a conversation with Peter either on the ice or by the snack bar. Cath delivered a cookie or several to Clark after she left. :) Both Henry and Steve were pleased to skate with Court, for sure. Henry is thankful for the distraction from his misery, and Steve was probably bummed that Derek had to work. (Reply to this) (Parent)
