Re: Voice
"And why did you do it?" he asked, his voice quiet, but not quite as calm. He knew it was a sensitive subject, that he should back off, that he should shut up...but the urge to help, to protect, kept him from doing so.
And the boy acted like Balfour wasn't a murderer, too, like killing people from atop a dragon was any better than killing them with your bare hands.
"I am, too, believe it or not, and having a dragon to burn them all doesn't make me less of a murderer. Just less traumatic. Fine, you did horrible things...but you do kind things, too. I'm not...just giving you a pass because you're my friend. I just...don't care. Not about what they say, not about the past."
Not about what he could do to him. But that part, he kept private.
Itachi's last comment got a bitter smirk and a shake of the head.
"I stopped trying to please my brother ages ago. I'll never do it." Lieslieslies. The guilt twisted his gut and his face. He knew, however, that though Amery wouldn't approve of him turning a blind eye to a murder's past, he would approve of someone with lesser sins.
At least Itachi had a reason. Balfour didn't have a reason, an excuse, past orders. Itachi had no choice.
