Summary: Party! It's Bruce Wayne's 36th birthday party and everyone who's anyone is there.

Alfred had been given permission to "outdo himself" and outdo himself he did. Wayne Manor was polished to a shine and decorated to the nines. The catering had been meticulously planned, with Alfred making several of the recipes himself. The ballroom had a stage that would have a live band with dancing for most of the evening and Zatanna's magic show at other times.

The only cause for complaint was due to the guest list. With all the plus ones, it was all a bit chaotic. While everyone either needed an invitation or to be with someone with an invitation to get in, it seemed that wasn't much of a barrier to entry.

The red-haired female gave the man she'd run into a sheepish smile. She could just imagine how she must look with her full-- but well balanced-- plate.

"Hey! No problem!" She grinned wider and nodded toward his plate with the cucumber sandwiches. "They're awesome, aren't they?"

After all, she'd been munching on them even as she'd been filling her plate. Wasn't like all that many people would be eating, probably. Most of these women probably considered it a personal mission to eat as little as possible. Hmph. She'd like to see them deal with not having the money to eat when they got hungry.

She gave the room a glare and munched down on another cucumber sandwich, half having forgotten about the man she was just talking to.

“They really are.” Ted agreed, “and I mean cucumber, that has to be healthy right?” Yes, that was it. Stay away form the desert table Ted, stay with the cucumber sandwiches … it was easy to justify helping himself to seconds and thirds when it came to desert. He just told himself that he’d work it off as Blue Beetle. But he was trying to cut back. Really.

He glanced out at the party for a moment, and than back to the girl with the red hair. Manners. Right. He had them. He held out his hand (the one not holding his plate that was weighed down with the sandwiches). “Ted Kord.” He introduced himself with a girn.

"Definitely." She grinned wide. "Best food I've had in months!" Okay, probably years. The last time she'd had a meal like this had been at her father's catered campaign parties. Though home-cooked meals were a close second... and even those hadn't been had for at least a year. Real food was just... amazing.

She made a mental note to eat out more, if she could do it--and get the money to do it--without attracting too much attention.

Duela shifted her plate to shake his hand-- and to buy her a few seconds to think. Dent would be too noticeable. Especially at a Wayne party. Gold? Well, that was her mother's maiden name, but it was still risky. Wait. She remembered someone writing to her dad once, misspelling his name. That would work.

"Dee Kent. Nice to meet you."

"Dee Kent. Nice to meet you." Ted gave her a handshake and a nod of the head. "And the food is awesome, yes. You ever been to a Wayne Party before?" Because the food was always amazing. And everything always ran like clockwork. Seriously, if Ted didn't think that Batman was the coolest person in the world, he would have thought that that Bruce Wayne was. (Or maybe he would have thought that Bruce Wayne's butler was the coolest person in the world).

"Once," Duela said without thinking. "When I was a little girl."

She winced as soon as she said it but assured herself that it was fine. After all, to have an invitation now... it wasn't a stretch that she'd been to another event when she was younger. That her family might be friends with the Waynes.

Still, she'd have to keep a closer reign on herself-- and her mouth-- from now on.
