Note: Need details? The plotting post is here. Start subthreads!

Alfred had been given permission to "outdo himself" and outdo himself he did. Wayne Manor was polished to a shine and decorated to the nines. The catering had been meticulously planned, with Alfred making several of the recipes himself. The ballroom had a stage that would have a live band with dancing for most of the evening and Zatanna's magic show at other times.

The only cause for complaint was due to the guest list. With all the plus ones, it was all a bit chaotic. While everyone either needed an invitation or to be with someone with an invitation to get in, it seemed that wasn't much of a barrier to entry.

"Ah," Scandal said. She turned to look for the guest of honor, barely spotting him amidst the throng of friends and well wishers. "He does seem to be in great demand tonight."

'If you only knew...,' thought Scandal, but then again, Kate was bound to find out in short order.

Unfortunately, kidnapping family members probably wasn't the best way to make a second impression. (Unless the dynamics of the Wayne family were as complicated as the Savages.) Pity. Scandal would have liked to gotten to know Kate a bit more.

"The journalists are probably having a field day."

"He always is," Kate agreed. Bruce certainly seemed to be having a good time.

She shrugged at the journalists comment. "Comes with the territory, I guess. Something about being born with a silver spoon in your mouth draws in the press whenever you do something. Really, you'd think the high crime rate would give them something else to write about."

"I suppose they need to fill up the society pages with something. Everything can't be violence," Scandal agreed, somewhat dismissively. It was Gotham City and Scandal highly doubted the city barely went a day without some sort of illicit activity. But enough of that...

"And yourself?" Scandal inquired. "More concerned about the social issues or have you decided to say to ignore the press entirely?" Scandal arced an eyebrow. From Kate's manner of dress, she would have guessed the later-- unless Kate was doing it for the sheer notoriety of things.

"Is not like soicety pages cannot have their share of violence," said Kate. While Kate herself had had her share of scandals, she'd kept her activities violence-free. On her public persona, at least.

"Let's just say I'm making sure I don't stay hidden," she replied, leaning just a little closer.

Whatever conflict happened on the Society rag was bound to be more emotional than physical. Except for, perhaps, a few reports of hair pulling and cat fights every now and again. Scandal made a mental note to pick up the local paper before they left town. Just to see if Kate was true to her word. She certainly looked the part.

"Personally," Scandal said, with a knowing smile, "I'm glad you're not. I find it's more fun to give people something to talk about."

"I know a thing or two about giving people something to talk about," Kate assured Scandal. "Maybe I could show you sometime."

Kate was exactly the one to pick up girls at parties - specially at Wayne parties. But she had to admit she found Scandal intriguing and it wouldn't to get to know the other woman better.

"I think I'd like that," Scandal said in a knowing tone. Oh, it was tempting to slip away and find some extravagantly furnished room in a mansion this size... but someone on the team needed to be responsible. Especially since the Six seemed to have an excess of color, jovial figures at the moment.

"But, I don't suppose I could take a rain check?" Scandal held up the empty serving tray slightly. "All work and no play..."

"Oh, I understand," Kate said. "Lots of work to do. Perhaps we can meet under better circunstances some other time."

It had been a while since Kate had so openly hitted on a person. And she was not going to miss the opportunity of something else happening. After all, if Renee was not interested, why should Kate stop living her life?

"Can I get your number?" she asked, feeling bolder with every word.

At the moment, Scandal cared less about business and more about pleasure. It was hard to stay focused with Kate before her, both bold and beautiful. Thankfully, the forward question was enough to give Scandal pause. While she wasn't overly concerned about having her name or face plastered about the evening news, her cellphone would be a different matter.

Scandal frowned, careful to see more frustrated than avoidant. "I'm not from around here. I'm only in the area for work." She raised an eyebrow. "Perhaps we can meet up later? Or the the next I'm in town?"

Kate did her best not to look dissapointed. At least it didn't sound as she was being completely blown off.

"Sure, I'd love that," she said with a little smile. "We could go to Xeno's for dinner sometime. A little dancing afterwards. Could be fun."

"I'll hold you too that," Scandal replied. She nodded slightly, giving Kate a sly grin. "Although I'll warn you, I usually need a few drinks before you can get me onto the dance floor."

While Scandal has no reservations when it came to showing off most of her moves, it took a bit more effort and nerve to get her onto a dance floor in public among several other writhing individuals. (And despite what her detractors said, it had nothing to do with being afraid to have fun.)
