Alfred had been given permission to "outdo himself" and outdo himself he did. Wayne Manor was polished to a shine and decorated to the nines. The catering had been meticulously planned, with Alfred making several of the recipes himself. The ballroom had a stage that would have a live band with dancing for most of the evening and Zatanna's magic show at other times.

The only cause for complaint was due to the guest list. With all the plus ones, it was all a bit chaotic. While everyone either needed an invitation or to be with someone with an invitation to get in, it seemed that wasn't much of a barrier to entry.

"Social awkwardness? Looking ridiculous? Please you look amazing." Dinah was here to be Barbara's cheerleader if she needed it. And also to force her to have a good time.

She glanced around at the crowd and shook her head. "The waiter must actually be a ninja because -- oh wait. Damn." She shook her head. "I see him, but he's been waylaid by a matronly looking type. Wearing her weight in jewelry. You know, the amount of money that jewelry is worth could probably stock a food bank for years. Ahem." Dinah stopped her tirade and gave her friend a sheepish look. "Sorry, I'll stow the damn the man speeches." Obviously a person Dinah had been hanging out with, and his speeches had rubbed off on her.

"All right, I'm going to go and make Mr. Waiter With the Tray, come back this way. Don't move, or otherwise bail on me, okay?"

Zatanna smiled at a passing waiter, taking a skewer of chicken and a napkin before moving along. She was thinking about taking a breath of fresh air when she spotted a familiar red head in an almost equally familiar chair. Oh, sweet. This was going to be fun! (Sure, she didn't have a secret identity, but she knew how to play the game. Well, Bruce would probably blanch at hearing her call it a game but regardless. She knew the deal.)

Swooping in once Dinah excused herself (she recognized the blonde, as well, but figured she'd let her set the pace there, since neither of them wore masks), Zatanna was grinning widely-- perhaps too widely but it couldn't be helped. This was going to be hilarious! "Hi, there. You're Commissioner Gordon's daughter, right? Barbara, isn't it? I've heard so much about you from the Commissioner and Bruce. You're a librarian, right?"

She made a show of looking abashed. "Oh, where are my manners? I'm Zatanna-- Zatanna Zatara. Just another member of the help this evening but on break at the moment." Blessedly. She was definitely going to need another glass of water before she went back on.
