Standing alone on a street corner that has been blocked off with police tape in every direction, the familiar face of WABC-TV 7 news’ early bird reporter, Serena Blansett fidgets with a piece of rolled-up paper between her hands. The faded light of early dawn fills the scene behind her, another scene that has grown familiar to those who follow Blansett’s early morning stories: disarray. In front of a gray building, a fountain, or what is left of one, features two statues shaking shaking hands amicably over an empty basin. One nods an official welcome to the other, which is shorter by at least a foot--and this is probably because the second statue no longer has its head. Tiny bits of rubble litter the surrounding sidewalks. Blansett’s name is printed neatly at the bottom of the screen, along with her location--U.S. CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION SERVICES.

BLANSETT: At roughly 2:30 AM this morning, downtown police reported the sound of an explosion outside the New York City immigration building. As you can see, the fountain behind me, which was erected in the name of peace between U.S. citizens and foreigners residing in America since eleven-seventeen, was the object of the attack. An attack which left the immigrant statue now headless.

Motivation has yet to be determined, although one of these statues appears to have been tagged with a symbol now familiar to many New Yorkers.

A second video feed cuts in, this one a close up of the back of the headless statue and said symbol, which is a spray painted image of this symbol. We return to the first feed, and see our erstwhile reporter just as she wipes a harried expression from her face.

BLANSETT: Investigators have not yet released security footage from the USCIS building, but sources report cameras have captured two, unidentified males planting the explosive. We will have more on this story as it unfolds. This is Serena Blansett for WABC news.

Alone, inside a dimly lit little room, stands the familiar face of WABC-TV 7 news’ early bird reporter, a young woman by the name of Serena Blansett. Harsh light from a few overhead fluorescents fills her face where she stands in front of a darkened storefront window, while the room around her is in disarray: papers have been tossed in every direction, and Blansett stands at the center of what appears to have been an office supply massacre. Her name is printed neatly at the bottom of the screen, along with her location--HERBERT TYLER’S CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS, UPPER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN.

BLANSETT: At roughly 2:00 AM this morning, uptown police reported a break-in at the campaign headquarters of District 4’s current City Council front-runner, Herbert Tyler. Nothing appears to have been stolen, but a Xerox machine has been blown up, and as you can see, the place has been left in shambles. Motive has yet to be determined, although investigators have linked the case to the recent City Council primary, and seem to suggest Tyler’s recent move from District 0 to District 4 may be the cause of the protest. Little clue as to the identification of the perpetrators has been left, save for a symbol which has been spray-painted into the carpet.

A second video feed cuts in, this one a close up of the carpet and said symbol, which is a re-drawing of this symbol. We return to the first feed, and see our erstwhile reporter just as she wipes a confused expression from her face.

NYU Loses Longtime Support of The Weymouth Foundation, Faces Severe Budget Constraints
By PHILLIP G. COLTER
Published: 20 May 2029

NEW YORK, NEW YORK. – In a press conference this afternoon, President of New York University Eve Grauer announced the sudden withdraw of all funding by The Weymouth Foundation, widely regarded as one of the largest benefactors of the University to date. With the loss of The Weymouth Foundation’s support, New York University’s budget has decreased from $4.3 billion from the 2027-2028 academic year to $3.4 billion allotted for 2029-2030.

“Even in ideal fiscal circumstances, the loss of the support of The Weymouth Foundation would place strain on the University infrastructure. That being said, with the loss of revenue from student housing due to zoning on our Washington Square campus, a decrease of performance in our various endowments, and funding for higher education from the federal government at an all-time low, New York University is being forced to refinance for the upcoming semester as soon as possible if we are to avoid dropping services for our students,” Dr. Grauer said.

Dr. Grauer went onto say, “Providing the exemplary education expected from our student body is the University’s top priority as we walk into special sessions with the Provost and Executive Vice President to adjust the budget as we see fit. Although other services, such as dining and on-campus activities, may have to go to the wayside, New York University’s mission to serve the nation’s finest scholars will maintain constant.”

When asked about The Weymouth Foundation’s relationship with New York University prior to the severance of their fiscal relationship, Dr. Grauer declined comment, only saying, “I wish the very best for the Weymouth family in all future endeavors.” And as for the decision to wait until the dust had settled from yesterday’s commencement activities? “The Class of 2029 deserved to have a celebration for its collective accomplishments that would not be scarred by the shadow of fiscal turmoil.”

Transcript from WABC-TV 7 Morning News.

A young woman appears in front of the camera, trying not to shiver in front of the camera despite the dark and damp March conditions as, for lack of a better phrase, a small inferno rages behind her. Across the bottom of the screen: SERENA BLANSETT, WABC-TV 7 NEWS and JAMAICA BUS DEPOT, MERRICK BOULEVARD, QUEENS. Occasionally, an umbrella peeks into the frame.

BLANSETT: Breaking news as of the beginning of the broadcast this morning – around 3:00 AM, firefighters received a report of an explosion at the Jamaica Bus Depot between South Road and 107th Avenue in Queens. Although the FDNY is presently struggling to extinguish the blaze, no one has been injured as of 5:30 AM local time. Thus far, the New York City Transit Authority has lost five buses by way of property damage; although records show that all of the buses damaged were slated for demolition later this week, the Transit Authority has full intention of discovering the culprits and pursuing justice by any means necessary as soon as possible.

In the background, a few crackling pops; apparently, one of the buses has finally burnt to the point where the frame collapses. Blansett jumps, although the camera man – and even some of the pedestrians in the back of the frame – appear unaffected.

BLANSETT: This is Serena Blansett for WABC News.

Crichton Expresses Solidarity As Housing and Redistricting Act Passes Into Law
By ROBERT A. ORTEGA
Published: 15 March 2029

NEW YORK, NEW YORK. Today, Mayor Crichton held a press conference to announce his support--though some might call it acquiescence--for the new Housing and Redistricting Act recently passed in Washington. The Act signs into law the new districting procedures that have been in effect since the beginning of the influx of displaced Westerners to the East Coast.

"As Washington has passed it, this act presents no significant change to your current daily lives," the Mayor said. "The Districts will remain categorized as they've been throughout the assimilation process, keeping in mind the maximization of housing efficiency necessary in these difficult times."

"Our most basic goal, as always, remains making certain everyone in the city has a place to live, combating the scourge of homelessness at the root through social work programs and a utilization of the act to its fullest potential."

When asked...
