Transcript from WABC-TV 7 Morning News.
A young woman appears in front of the camera, trying not to shiver in front of the camera despite the dark and damp March conditions as, for lack of a better phrase, a small inferno rages behind her. Across the bottom of the screen: SERENA BLANSETT, WABC-TV 7 NEWS and JAMAICA BUS DEPOT, MERRICK BOULEVARD, QUEENS. Occasionally, an umbrella peeks into the frame. BLANSETT: Breaking news as of the beginning of the broadcast this morning – around 3:00 AM, firefighters received a report of an explosion at the Jamaica Bus Depot between South Road and 107th Avenue in Queens. Although the FDNY is presently struggling to extinguish the blaze, no one has been injured as of 5:30 AM local time. Thus far, the New York City Transit Authority has lost five buses by way of property damage; although records show that all of the buses damaged were slated for demolition later this week, the Transit Authority has full intention of discovering the culprits and pursuing justice by any means necessary as soon as possible. In the background, a few crackling pops; apparently, one of the buses has finally burnt to the point where the frame collapses. Blansett jumps, although the camera man – and even some of the pedestrians in the back of the frame – appear unaffected. BLANSETT: This is Serena Blansett for WABC News. |
