Real people are are dead now is a very good idea, I think. :)

Also, is it possible that some of the Manor's current residents can think they, themselves, are some of the older tenants as well? Not the famous people, but just some tenant from older days. This might help if they're the type of person who would probably flee the ball once they got there and realized it was filled with ghosts.
