Brothers

They were brothers.

It didn't matter that they had been born to different mothers, to different fathers. They never shared a drop of blood until they were seven, and swore to be blood brothers for the rest of their lives.

They lost the scars when Shin-Ra took their arms and left behind metal.

Dyne found love first. Barret stood as best man as Dyne married, Dyne did the same for him.

They were brothers.

Dyne was always one step ahead, though. He got married first, had a child, a girl, soon after.

Barret was the first one to hold Marlene after Dyne and Eleanor. He thought she was the most fragile thing he had ever seen. Seeing Marlene made him want the day he and Myrna would have one.

Then Shin-Ra came.

Things seemed hazy for a while. He had lost his brother and did his best to take care of all that he had left of the man. Marlene was his pride and joy, and he did everything he could for the girl.

Even bring her real father back to her.

When they had faced off against each other, Barret's heart tore at itself. He didn't want to lost Marlene, didn't want to lose Dyne.

His brother, or his daughter.

He tried to save them both.

Even though Dyne took the choice out of his hands, Barret decided to do the best for the girl he called his own that he could.

For her, for him, for the brother he had lost.
