September 21 -- Butterbeer.
Who: Miyuki, open.
Where: Hogsmeade, The Three Broomsticks.
When: Twilight.
Rating: PG
Status: Open and ongoing.
Summary: Coming soon.

Miyuki was cold. So when she entered The Three Broomsticks, arms wrapped around, herself she was grateful for the temperature increase. Yuki was surprised that it was so cold in September already. Then again the sun was going down… summer nights sometimes deeply contrasted to summer days.

Her heels clacked against the floor as she strode to the bar to order a mug of Butterbeer. Miyuki would have gotten Firewhiskey but she didn’t want to end up stumbling home… That’d look really good if anyone important found out and decided to publish it. An author and an alcoholic… not very appealing. She hated that she couldn’t just live her life without thinking of the publicity potential. It wasn’t like Miyuki was famous but she was somewhat known… and that was enough.

Miyuki sat at the bar, sipping her drink, mapping out chapter five in her head, wondering how exactly Claudia and Jacob would reunite after a whole entire week…

Alex, in contrast, had no qualms about sipping a firewhiskey at the bar. The regulars knew him well enough. He wasn't an alcoholic by any means, but he stopped in at the pub every other week to keep an ear out for gossip.

There wasn't really anything else he could do with his time when he wasn't working for the Malfoys. Listening to local news passed the day for him and offered a small amount of entertainment.

He didn't fail to notice Yuki come in, but he didn't take too great an interest in her.

"Cold?" he wondered mildly, tapping a finger on the bar and gesturing to the barkeep that he'd like a glass of water.

Miyuki glanced at Alex and smiled slightly, she didn‘t expect company. “Yeah,” she muttered in her soft voice. “It’s still late September though, I’m surprised…” she trailed off, taking a sip of her Butterbeer and wondered if he had read her book. No, he didn’t look the type. Not many guys were into the mush that she produced. Not many straight ones, anyway.

Maybe she should make small talk? No, she wouldn’t. If he brought up a subject that she could talk comfortably about, she’d respond. If not then she’d down her drink quickly and make an excuse to get home.

Alex flashed a grin. "I don't see much trouble with the cold weather. More of an excuse to be in the pub then, isn't it?"

He shook his head the next minute, not very interested in continuing that line of thought as a glass of water was placed in front of him. After considering it for a moment, he glanced back at the woman.

"Alex Embers," he introduced, holding out his free hand.

“Miyuki Mitsushiba,” she said amiably. She placed her Butterbeer down and shook his hand. She liked his last name, Embers, it sounded nicer and it was easier to pronounce then Mitsushiba. A lot of her readers came up to her saying it wrong. She would never corrected them, though.

“Do you come here a lot?” she asked. She most certainly didn’t, usually she was locked up in her room, conjuring up some contraption related to writing.

"Whenever I get off from work and want a drink before taking the floo home," he answered, going over her name once or twice in his head before deciding that he hadn't heard of it before.

He didn't know many of the Asian pureblood families, though. Alex wasn't surprised that her name didn't ring any bells, especially with the possibility that the woman wasn't even pureblood.

"I suppose you live in the area?" Or worked in the area. This time of year wasn't the most popular with tourists, he didn't think.

“Yeah, my flat is a few blocks down. It’s pretty quiet in Hogsmeade… I like it.” Miyuki unconsciously began to chew on her nails. She remembered when she used to live with her father in a loud neighborhood full of strange wizard families. They had a lot of company, Kazuki was apparently popular in that area. Miyuki didn’t enjoy that. When things explode a few houses down every week, you tend to get annoyed.

“I’m guessing since you floo home you don’t live in the area?” she asked curiously, withdrawing her hand from her mouth.

Alex shook his head, amused at the thought of living in the little village. It was a tad too... quaint... for his taste. He much preferred living out of the way like he did. It was cheaper, too. And no one had ever accused Alex of not being thrifty.

"I do," he agreed vaguely. "I see enough of village life on work days. The Malfoys seem to have their shop open more often than closed."

Which meant lots of hours to keep him occupied in town.

"Do you enjoy living here?"

Malfoy’s? Hm, her father used to speak of the name. Sometimes it was with fondness and sometimes with disgust, though. He was relatively bi-polar on the subject, and if her father decided to go on about anyone Miyuki didn’t know, she’d just pick up the finer details and zone him out for the rest of the time. So the name Malfoy was relatively familiar to her, even if she never made a decision on the family. She never decided on anything without seeing it.

“It’s nice to be here, it’s a change from where I used to live with my father. I’ve only been in Hogsmeade for a year though,” Miyuki took another sip from her Butterbeer. “So you what exactly do you do at the Malfoy’s shop?” she asked, then added quickly: “If you don’t mind me asking.”

Only a year, hm? A relatively new girl, then. He doubted she had even had the misfortune of running into the broody Quoft every other weekend yet. The man could be as quiet as a shadow when he was lurking around the village.

"I don't mind," Alex offered amiably. "It's a simple job. I simply sale and buy various antiques of interest. If you have any magical family heirlooms you don't need... Potentia is the place to pawn them off at."

He grinned, but he was only half joking. The Malfoys paid him well enough to always be on the job looking for new finds.

“Oh my grandparents keep all of those. And I doubt they’d give them to me.” Miyuki half smiled, taking the last sip from her Butterbeer and ordering another. She hadn’t ever met her fathers side of the family. After he married a Muggle they basically cut him off, and they even refused to see their granddaughter. They didn’t want to dirty their sight with the ‘filth’ that she was. Kazuki had broken the bloodline, and to them that was unforgivable.

“I’ve passed there a few times though, I’ve never gone in before.” She omitted the detail about how she thought the store was kind of creepy, not wanting to offend him.
