WHO Ace Ryusaki & Cinque Otto
WHAT Ace helps Cinque with her Wutai Style video and they're cute.
WHEN Before Edea mission.
WHERE One of the training rooms.
STATUS Cute
There was a lot that was occupying Ace’s mind; most of them relating to the upcoming mission. As excited as he was, there was a feeling of wariness that came with it -- which probably had something to do with the fact that they would be up against an exceptionally powerful sorceress. Fortunately, this feeling had lessened for the last couple of days -- he knew that what he had to do was to prepare as best as he could with the rest of the cadets. And that was what he had been doing. In addition to his existing training sessions, he had read up more on the sorceress and studied about the magic that she used with Namine to help him understand it better. He shuffled the deck of cards in his hands, as he made his way towards one of the training rooms. After getting injured during the dragon (... or rather, Reis) attack, he was determined not to lose his focus for this mission. This thought was pushed aside when he heard music coming out of the room, its door ajar enough for him to see what was going on inside. A smile spread across his lips when he saw Cinque enthusiastically dancing along to a catchy song he had never heard before. Not realizing that she was attempting to record a sphere, he cleared his throat loudly to catch her attention. Even Cinque, with her tendency for naivete and carelessness, hadn't been blind to the excited sort of trepidation that had hung in the air of Balamb Garden after the Edea mission had been announced. It was one that she shared. While the incredible strength of their opponents was something Cinque recognized, the magnitude of just how unbalanced the sides were was something that was lost on her. Much like a puppy, Cinque was just excited to have the opportunity to share this experience with the most wonderful and talented people in all of Gaia -- Her friends. As always, her fellow Zeroes had been so kind and sweet and helpful during practices, there wasn't a doubt in Cinque's mind that they would be prepared for this mission. But because everyone had been working so hard, she couldn't help but feel that there was a nearly as and very tired energy that hung river everyone's heads like a graying cloud. Cinque wanted to turn those clouds into a bright, blue sky and had taken a bit of time during one of her practice sessions to record herself dancing to a W-pop song, so she could share it with rest of Class Zero. And it seemed that one of them would see it a bit earlier than the rest. At the universal sound for "Someone who shouldn't be here is here," Cinque's head swiveled toward the door with a muted pink color creeping up her neck. The moment she saw it was Ace, however, any trace of embarrassment was buried in the sugar coated mountain of pure daze and happiness she felt from seeing him. Speak of wonderful and talented, indeed. "Hi Ace!" she exclaimed enthusiastically as she stopped in her tracks to wave. The music still played and the recording continued -- Cinque was currently far too distracted to remember to pause that. "How are you?" “I’m good,” he answered, a mixture of curiosity and amusement on his face as he allowed himself into the room. Now, he realized what she had been trying to do. And you would think that, being Vice President of Class Zero, Ace would be ticking his fellow members off when they were distracting themselves from their usual training regime. But he had too much faith in his club members to do that; he believed that, regardless of how they did it, by mission day they would be prepared. They had a common goal and taken the same oath, after all. (This was most likely why Queen was left to handle the discipline part of the club.) “Sorry for interrupting your dance.” Ace’s head tilted at her questioningly. “Is this a new method of exercising? What you were doing just now...” he imitated one of her leg movements he had seen, his lips pursed to keep himself from laughing. The pink that had paused at the base of her jaw began tired work its way to her cheeks when Ace imitated her. Yet in spite of her embarrassment, Cinque was delighted. He had been watching her long enough to have caught onto the movements, and he had done it himself. He was sharing a little bit of this experience with her, and that filled Cinque with something that felt like warm and curling strands of yarn. The soft kind that felt like a kitten's tail. The tips of her fingers rested gently on her nose when her hands went to cover her mouth, lightly muffling the bubble of giggles that floated out of her. "Oh my hysh, Ace! You're so good!" she exclaimed. "You should dance with me, I am making a sphere for Class Zero, to make everyone smile because they have been working so hard." There was nothing but complete genuinity in her request as she looked at him with eager eyes. He grinned at her enthusiasm. It was difficult not to, when Cinque was radiating it so much that it was almost infectious. Ace opened his mouth to tell her that he wasn’t sure whether it would be the best move, since he hardly know the steps and the song. Surely she alone would be enough at making a good sphere? But the look on her face was so earnest that, Ace being himself, found it hard to say no. “If I do this, will it make you even better during the mission?” he asked, giving her a good-humoured smile, putting his deck of cards away in his pocket as he approached her. It didn’t surprise her that Ace seemed to be agreeing -- He was always so wonderful and good-natured and welcome to new things, but that didn’t lessen her delight at all. A long and drawn out gasp emitted from behind Cinque’s fingers before it turned into an uncontrollable sort of laughter. “Yes, hysh, so completely and totally yes!!” She managed between giggles. There was a slight bounce in her step as she clapped. It didn’t occur to her at all that given her enthusiasm and dedication to the mission and Class Zero, there was little to no opportunity to try any harder than she already would have. “I’m sure you don’t need me to show you the dance because you can already do it so well.” A chuckle escaped from Ace at her eagerness and belief that he would be able to dance along to the song. He doubted he would be able to, when he hadn’t heard of it before and what he had seen had only been nearly a minute of her dancing. But he wasn’t one to take this particularly seriously, and if she meant it to be something enjoyable -- something that would make their friends laugh, then he would be onboard. He took another few steps towards her so that he wouldn’t be out of the sphere’s range. “There’s an expert here I can emulate,” he good humouredly told her. The giggles continued to spill out of her as Ace situated himself within the sphere's frame. "Ace, that is so sweet of you to say!" It was her default response to any vaguely nice comment she received because, in addition to Cinque's shyness preventing her from dealing well with being the focus of attention, it was true. Cinque's rendition of the dance was modest at best and Ace didn't have to pay her the compliment -- Rather, it was something he had chosen to say of his own accord, and that filled her with bubbles from the bottom of her stomach to the base of her throat. "Okay, when the chorus plays, you just need to dance like you were earlier. You were wonderful, I think it will probably be so easy for you! But if you don't know the choreography, that's okay. You can dance however you want because you are a lovely dancer." Her smile grew wider, if possible, with a wistful hint at the memory of Ace dancing at the SeeD Ball and the after party. Or what she could remember of it, at the very least. “I’ve had good luck lately by getting a good partner,” there was a hint of... something in Ace’s eyes. Friendly affection? Something that bordered on nearly flirting? Maybe. Unfortunately, he himself failed to figure it out what it was, and before he could realize what he was trying to do, Ace was already fiddling with the sphere, making sure that it was working again and to play the song. More of a habit than anything else, waved his hand in front of the sphere, even if he knew it was already recording. He stepped back to join Cinque, his head nodding along to the start of the song, his eyes on her since he was supposed to mostly be following her moves. Whatever Ace was doing, Cinque remained oblivious to it, and simply beamed whilst turning the color of cotton candy at his remark. "Ace," Cinque took his name on a melodic journey, lifting and raising her tone as her fingers intertwined, twisting and turning while her shoulder shrugged meekly. "You're so sweet." But that was soon forgotten when the upbeat bass and catchy melody filled the practice room. Immediately, Cinque loosened and her eyes squinted into smiles, her head bobbed side to side with the beat. Soon, the verse was nearing its end and the chorus was looming close. "Okay, it's coming up!" she informed Ace before counting the both of them down with a "Three, two, one, and now." It took all of Ace’s self restraint not to laugh out loud. He failed within a second of his attempt. His upper body was shaking with laughter as his legs moved to dance along with the song. The choreography reminded him of people who were riding chocobos, and he had only that only three times in his life, imitating them wasn’t totally difficult. Of course, his dancing wasn’t too accurate, but he glanced over at Cinque, wondering if she minded. Fortunately, she also seemed like she was having fun. When the chorus ended, though, Ace didn’t stop from dancing. How dangerous the mission would be was also far from his mind. He took her hands with a grin, and started to lead her in a silly jig around the sphere’s range. It was completely out of rhythm and had nothing to do with the song, which made it even more fun. It was impossible to maintain a straight face with the sound of Ace's laughter enveloping her like a warm comforter on a cold day. It was infectious and it didn't take long before Cinque's movements were affected with laughter themselves. Her head dipped while waves of giggles rippled throughout her body before her chin lifted and turned towards Ace. Things were always so much more wonderful whenever he was around. Dancing to wpop was one of Cinque's most beloved pastimes. Never had she even fathomed that she could enjoy herself more than she already had; and yet, here she was. When she thought it was over, that it couldn't get any better, Cinque found herself face to face with Ace, his hands clasped over hers. A delighted noise escaped her, half a giggle and half a shriek, as she allowed herself to be led around the room. Unfortunately, the unexpected movement and proximity to the most wonderful boy at garden -- No, the most wonderful boy in the entirety of Gaia -- only made Cinque's already heavy steps clumsier. A slight misstep led to Cinque tripping over her own feet, causing her to tumble into her dance partner. "Oh, I'm so sorry, Ace!" There was a hint of apology to her voice and in her eyes, though obscured by laughter. “Whoa!” he caught her just in time, his hand slipping away from hers to move to her waist so that she wouldn’t fall. Instead of being nervous or awkward, he found himself comfortable with where they were. He realized that he hadn’t laughed this much for the past few days, with how tense everyone had been. Giving her a warm smile, Ace didn’t let go of her quite just yet. Leaning forward slightly, he kept his eye contact leveled with hers. “Don’t trip during the mission, Cinque,” the remark was meant to be both teasing and serious, though mostly the former. It was slowly beginning to dawn on Cinque that not only had the space between herself and Ace gotten smaller, but she was in his space, and he was in hers. He was holding her in it, in fact. A tangled mess of electricity began balling in her chest before spreading out to the rest of her body as her laughter slowed to a brief pause. Ace’s arms were not particularly big, nor were they particularly strong; but they were comfortable and reassuring. They made her feel like things were going to be all right. What things, exactly, Cinque wasn’t entirely sure yet, but she supposed they didn’t matter much since it would all be all right, anyway. She laughed again, though not bothering to move away. It felt too nice to move away. “I promise. I have been practicing.” Ace was beginning to feel a sense of deja vu from being close to her, as if something like this had happened before. He couldn’t quite pick it from his memory, but something similar to his did happen. He was sure of it. And it had something to do with the sphere of them being posted by Cait Sith. Instinctively, without thinking much of the consequences, except knowing that they were very close, and that the only right thing to do was to lean over and -- A loud squeak was heard by the door, and the sound distracted him from what he was about to do. Ace looked over just in time to see a younger cadet mumbling an apology before rushing away from the training room. Something was happening. Cinque was certain of it. The ball of electricity that been building inside of her had seeped into the air and was unravelling around them. What, exactly, was happening or what it meant, Cinque wasn't sure, but it was exciting. She felt like she was slowly being filled with helium -- Flying higher and higher, and growing larger and larger. Then, it was gone. Ace turned away and Cinque felt like she had been untied. Deflated. She exhaled a small sigh as her arms dropped to her sides. Whatever had been happening before was probably not going to happen again. "Thank you very much for catching me, Ace. And for dancing with me." She smiled at him. It was genuine, as was her gratitude, though it was difficult to hide her disappointment. "But I should get back to practicing. Would you like to practice with me?" It was difficult to hide the hopeful edge to her voice as well. Ace did hear her, and he nodded. “I’d like to.” It was true, they should get back to practicing, as fun as making the sphere had been. He had no doubt that the end product would be hilarious, that their Class Zero members would be amused. But he had been interrupted, and his curiosity over what could have happened just now, as well as what had happened when they were both too intoxicated -- well, let’s just say, it won out. Before Cinque moved away, and before there were more any interruptions, he leaned forward again, both hands on her shoulder, and gave her a brief kiss on the lips. It was different than what he had seen on the video -- the drunk kiss that had lasted for twenty minutes -- but it was enough, and he pulled away a short moment later. “So that was how it felt.” And then it happened. That something that had been happening before they had been interrupted. Cinque froze when Ace closed the distance between them, her mind entirely blank save for a single alarm that blared "THIS IS HAPPENING." It was soon joined by another that screamed "Do something about it." She didn't need to be told twice. Without another thought, Cinque moved a half a step closer, lifting herself into him for a brief moment before Ace pulled away. It was impossible to describe how she felt -- There were too many things to describe. She felt like a cloud and a firework, weightless and light, but explosive. A tinge of color crept up her neck when it was done. A smile spread from her lips to her eyes, crinkling them into crescent moons. "Ace~" His name was a single, drawn out syllable that moved through her body as it twisted. Keeping himself from smiling was too difficult to do at that moment. There was nothing about the kiss that made him feel particularly uncomfortable. He liked it, and she seemed to too. He liked that they both weren't drunk this time and knew what they were doing. And Cinque deserved that kind of kiss, not one they had to be reminded of by a sphere. That was as far as Ace could explain his feelings--for now. Unfortunately, Ace was still, well, himself. He wasn't going to let neither of them get distracted by the important mission, no matter how much he had enjoyed g her. His expression returned to something that was more serious this time, though the happiness wasn't wiped out from it, and he hadn't quite moved away just yet. "Let's practice and do our best, okay?" |
