Chase barely suppressed a shiver, feeling heavy and creeped out as the dread settled into his bones. He wanted to just hold her when she made that sound, to try and cling, hoping they were both safe from the story she hadn't even told him yet.
As she did, though, he couldn't help the growing horror in his warm brown eyes. "Are you-" serious? He didn't finish the question because he could tell she was serious and he didn't know why she'd say something like that to him if she wasn't. She wasn't really the type to just try to fuck with people for no reason. She wasn't cruel like that.
He did slide his arms around her when she swallowed, feeling like they both kind of needed a hug there. "God, I'm so, so fucking glad you did transfer, because that's creepy as hell and I hope I never really have to be around him and you neither and how could they let someone like that into the group if they've killed a handler that sounds insane and that's so creepy! C'mon, I need to give you a bomb or a lot of bombs or something just in case or I need to come up with a new bomb..." He didn't know, but he very abruptly felt more protective of her than he ever had - and he already did. He didn't want her anywhere near some creepy fucker who was a murderer too. With superpowers.
