Into the TARDIS
Who: The Doctor and River Tam
What: The Doctor invited River to visit the TARDIS
Where: The TARDIS on the lake's edge
When: Day 32, mid-afternoon
Status: Active

It was hard for the Doctor to give up on his ideas. He'd had the idea of syncing with the planet's psychic network as a means of communication; though, still the planet refused to cooperate - fiddling with it's frequency and making the Doctor's task at hand nearly impossible. It didn't make him feel entirely competent as he kept pointing his sonic screwdriver at the control panel and watching this little graph flicker on the blue toned screen with a quiet sigh of dissatisfaction. He'd been at this for hours and still no progress. Everything he tried the planet spit back at him - he couldn't help but feel like he was banging his head on the TARDIS wall.

Pulling up his stool he sat down, crossing his arms and looking rather crossly at the aqua colored pillar in the middle of the room which surged languidly with a quiet whir. "We'll figure it out sooner or later," he said to the TARDIS knowing full well he wouldn't be getting any sort of response from his ship - well outside of the continued hum.

Clicking his tongue he wiggled his toes on the scaffolding, tapped the rubberized toes there with a clunking noise that was wonderfully comforting. He supposed things could be worse - he could have to stay in the wretched room that the planet kept trying to force upon him - THAT would be unavoidably unsavory.

Drumming his fingers on the stools edge he just stared at the ceiling, trying to decide if he ought to sink his teeth back into his plan and experiments or not.

River was a little confused when he said that they had not evolved however she chose not to comment on it. She realized how much she could possibly learn from this Doctor. She wanted him to tell her everything he had learned from other species and planets.

River ran around the main core, occasionally ducking under the main brown beams that held it to the sides. She was examining every possible angle of the inside of the TARDIS.

At one point she looked up and was surprised to see how tall the ceiling was in comparison to what the outside had led her to believe. She was in awe of the ship the Doctor called home. It was nothing like she had ever seen before. Serenity, given that it was a rather older model, looked nothing like this. But, Serenity aside, none of the other models was anything close to the TARDIS.

River approached the blue core cautiously, just in case there was any chance that it could somehow shock her. She then started to look over the control panel. She started to punch at some of the buttons. Anyone watching from afar would probably misunderstand it for random punches; however River was reading the different elements of the TARDIS. She was going through the way it worked and functioned both in space and on land. She was especially fascinated at how it could easily adapt itself.

River’s head shot up suddenly as she realized a possibility… “What year are you from?” She asked. She considered that he could be a part of an even further future than she was. If so she had even more questions to ask him than she had when she first arrived.

(OOC I apologize ahead of time if I make any mistakes regarding the TARDIS...I know and have seen Doctor Who but not enough to know the ins and outs like you do. Just let me know and I will be happy to change it ^^)

She started punching buttons and the TARDIS sort of jilted a bit, whirring and thudding to her bowels as she tried to respond to the inputs at her panels. The Doctor sort of winced a little, sucking in his cheeks, "Careful what you push, she's under a great deal of strain with the Planet holding her here and all," he said bouncing down the stairs and coming up beside her at the center of the room.

"What year?" He asked, not ever really desiring to disclose the actual era of his birth. "Well, that's a complicated sort of question. Besides, since I'm quite sure we're from differing galaxies my point in the timeline wouldn't mean quite so much since it doesn't have the same reference points," The Timelord rambled, he was just so very prone to such things.

"The Planet took me from Earth in the year 2007," he said with a grin, as he considered that he was just about to take Donna off to visit the Library of the 53rd century it made it all the more amusing that the planet would have taken him from right then.

"I doubt you would have seen anything like this where you're from, in fact I'd love to know if your universe even has a Gallifrey," he said that last name sort of sadly thinking of his home.

River just nodded at the Doctor's concern for the TARDIS. "It's ok. Your ship will be fine." She said. Yet she decided to slow it down a little. She didn't want to run the risk of it not being able to handle her constant fast pace.

River frowned when the Doctor said that he was from the year 2007. "I'm from the year 2516." she said. She was starting to consider the possibility of alternate dimensions being more relevent. River put everything back to the way the Doctor had it when she came in and starting observing the main blue core that fascinated her so much. It was an interesting color. She hung on to one of the brown beams as she stared at it.

"What is a Gallifrey?" River said, tilting her head a bit. She was actually tilting her head at the word the Doctor had said. However she did not take her eyes off of the blue core. "You have funny names for things. Jadoon. Gallifrey."

"She's not just a ship. This old girl here is actually quite alive. Perhaps not quite as sentient at the planet that's ensared us; but, she certainly has personality," the Doctor knew that what he was saying could be construed as just adding a personality and life-like qualities to his vessel; but, anyone who thought that evidently hadn't travelled in his little ship too long.

"It's not healthy for her to be cooped up like this. It isn't too good for either of us, really," he sighed, taking up a perch on the white bench alongside the railing. "2516?" The Doctor grinned, trying to wrestle his mind around what was going on in his universe about that time. "Well, the Daleks invade earth in 2164... Let's not forget those cybermen, too..." He was thinking aloud, there were a lot of adventures stored up in that mind of his.

"Gallifrey was my home, it's where all of this is from," he said rather composedly. "Well, just because it's foreign doesn't necessarily make it funny, you know," he said this with a cheeky smile. "You seem to enjoy the Time Rotor," he said, noting her fascination with the aqua-blue core.

River grew nervous when the Doctor said that the ship was alive. "Alive..." River backed up away from the beam only to run into the side of the ship. She jumped a bit and slowly walked forward in a way so she was not touching any part of the ship. "How is it alive?" River said, cautiously looking around.

River tilted her head again at the Doctor, this time looking at him. "We must be from different dimensions..." River considered the idea of alternate dimensions. It was conflicting with the possiblity of it being a different universe coinciding with her own.

"Different language. Confsuing language." River said, rubbing her neck a bit. She was rather fast at picking up things in general, let alone languages. She was annoyed that she was having such a hard time following his.

When the Doctor mentioned the Time Rotor, River looked back over at him; pulled from her thoughts. "Time Rotor? Is that what the blue core is?" River looked back at the blue core and cautiously edged her way closer to it; still wary of the fact the ship was technically alive. "It's pretty. What does it do?"

(Sorry for dropping off the map - worst week, ever!)

He watched as the girlish figure wafted away from the pillar she had been clinging to and toward more of the center of the room.

"Well, TARDISes are grown. When they start out they're really just a bit of coral. Over time, I suppose, they evolve a sort of personality. They're also genetically fused to whomever operates them. So, I suppose there's a bit of me in the old girl, too."

He tapped his toes on the grating as he languidly stretched, folding his hands behind his head as he looked up into the seemingly depthless TARDIS ceiling.

"Of course it's different. Though, it's sort of sad you don't have a Gallifrey where you're from. I was sort of hoping my people in another dimension had branched out a bit more - perhaps been a little bit more lively," The Timelords hadn't been known for being particularly active in the universe - well outside of their epic war, anyway.

He perked as she approached the rotor, "Well, it's sort of the pulse of the TARDIS, the time rotor heaves up and down as the mechanisms work." He grinned, more often than not people asked about his ship being bigger on the inside than on the outside not about how it actually worked.

"Grown?" River was trying to wrap her head around the possibilities. "Your people grow machinary?" River's eyes went wide as she tried to conjure up an image of the coral being grown to turn into the ship.

River also started to look up around the large ceiling while she listened to him talk. "You're inside of this?" She pointed up into the air. She was amazed how the ship worked. It was so different than what she was used to. River secretly wished there was something like this where she was from. She would have loved to fly in something like this at least once.

River looked back at the Doctor "You keep in contact with people in other dimensions? How does that work." It was true that she had never heard of a Gallifry, and therefore knew it didn't exist in her worlds, but perhaps there were others like this Doctor that existed without her knowledge. Although she was sure that if the Alliance knew anything about them she would know as well.

"A heartbeat." River remarked as she turned back to the rotor. She tilted her head as she looked it over.
