Entry tags:arrival, complete, day 32, luna lovegood, the doctor

Who: Luna Lovegood and Open (Doctor is he's game)
What: Luna Lands on the Planet
Rating: PG-13 Tops
Status: Incomplete

It had only been a few weeks since everything that happened at the Department of Mysteries and Luna was on a trip with her father at the end of the Hogwarts term. For a change the quirky teen was actually having some fun and able to focus on a current hurt for a crumpled horn snorkack when it happened. Luna had gone into the bushes to follow some tracks when she seemed to find herself in what felt different but looked very much like the forest she had been in. "But curious, a big blue box is nearby" she mused but that was before taking a wrong turn and landing into the lake (thank goodness her wand was high and dry, having landed in a bush near the lakeside).

But the splash alone would make anyone curious along with the rather large scar on Luna's hand (caused via Umbridge, a rather nasty period of time) as the now soggy young woman came out of the lake to locate her wand and use a drying charm. But the little radishes earrings that swung from her ears would make anyone curious at the same time as she hunted for her wand (and hopefully would find those Snorkack tracks).

Out popped the Doctor's head from between two big, blue doors. He'd heard a splash from just outside them - something that was uncharacteristic since the TARDIS had last been parked right outside his "room" at the resort. The planet was trying to tell him something - and he was going to continue to ignore it.

Looking left and looking right he realized that the doors to the TARDIS were open to the expanse of the lake, as if the planet wanted him to step out and into the water. Instead, he'd get the better of the planet and with a whir and a crash the engines flared and the TARDIS came to life for a moment, wheezing it's way out of space and time just long enough to turn. It took a lot out of the old girl as she settled with a thump upon the sediment.

Daring to step out onto the rocky ground he glanced rather speculatively at the blue box, expecting it to move at any moment. Looking around the box he spied the girl, drying what looked to be a stick.

"Eh, hello, you alright?"

On pure instict given what happened at the Department of Mysteries Luna grabbed the wand and fell into a dfense pose, ready to scream a spell at a moments notice. "These are not the crumpled horn snorkack tracks!" she almost screamed, fear in her eyes speaking volumes. Luna had no idea what had happened but she knew this, this was not where she had been hunting only a short time before. Ok, given that she's soaked from the waterly landing was not helping matters much either.

"Not crumpled horn snor-- what?! No. I don't think they are. I don't know what that is.. What is it again?" There were about twenty five more questions he wanted to ask, but refrained seeing that the girl was terrified.

"Would you like a towel?" He asked, not waiting for an answer before ducking into the TARDIS, running down the winding stair and into a closet. Pulling out a large towel he'd again reemerge from the box, yellow towel in hand. "It's a little chilly for going for a swim, don't you think?"

"Just found myself in the lake, was tracking some crumpled horn snorkack tracks when I either took a wrong turn or something. Landed in the lake soon after" Luna explained as she accepted the towel. She had forgotten about her scar for a moment, seeing there could be some humor in all this after all. "My name is Luna" as she fished the wand down from where it landed.

"I think you've taken more than a wrong turn," he muttered, internally cursing the planet for again yanking another child from the world and depositing them so neatly in an inconvenient circumstance.

"Nice meeting you, Luna," he said with a smile, "I'm the Doctor, and we ought to get you to the lodge," he said waving her to follow as his tracks carried him up the embankment. "Come on, we should get you dried off, I think."

"Doctor, there a last name or anything?" Luna's curious nature took over as she followed the Doctor. She had grabbed her wand before tagging along, the little radishes swinging from her ears as she walked. "Well things can not get much worse given the last few months" thinking of what happened at the Department of Mysteries and within the DA. But she had freaked out badly enough to blank on a simple drying charm but was looking for fresh tracks as they walked.

Luna looked like a mere child given how petite she is but in reality she was a young woman of 15.

"No, just the Doctor," he said sticking his hands in his pockets as the lake's bank turned to grass and the resort came into view. The Lodge was right there and once the distance was closed he pulled open the door.

"Just take a moment to look at that plaque over there, I'll get you your room key," he said, ducking around the corner to take a plain looking key from a hook.

"Right, here you are," he said warmly, holding the key out for her.

The plaque made Luna's eyes bug out more than usual. She just stood there, water dripping from her hair as she read it one more time. After a few minutes she took the key, questions pouring out of her (its pure Ravenclaw). "What is this place? Are there others my age? Does Magic work? What is the bloody deal here?"

"Well, you're on a planet. Where, I really don't know because it keeps on changing the appearence of the stars in the atmosphere through some sort of projective technology I haven't quite figured out yet. Two, There are plenty of other people your age. C, I'm not sure what you mean by 'magic,' and forty-eight, the deal is we're all stuck here for as long as it takes for me to find us a way off this rock."

He finally breathed. He loved being bombarded with questions.

"Anything else?"

"To answer the magic question just watch" as Luna pointed her wand at her hair and used a drying charm to dry out her hair. "I'm 15 and well there is more to me than meets the eyes" forgetting the scar was in full view of the Doctor's sight. "Do you know of any other people my age?" part of her hoping she could make friends or find people from her world. "Questions are part of who I am, Ravenclaws love learning after all. That is my house at school"

"I'm errr, well..." He thought for a moment, comparing 947 to 15 years just seemed unfair. "There's more to me than meets the eyes as well," he said with a waggle of his brow and a sway of his hips. Was the Timelord really competing with a 15 year old?

"Err... Well, I know Astor... And Susan! I think Susan's probably about your age," he said with a jubilant grin.

"Questions are part of who I am, too. Well, mostly I enjoy the answers more than the questions."

A tiny smile escaped Luna at the news of others her age. "Well you do know I am a magic user, the charm only dried out my hair post that little landing into the lake" she explained. "But I just love learning, part of being a Ravenclaw I think"

"Have you ever wondered how this magic of yours works?" He wasn't trying to be prodding, as he held out her key he was just being inquisitive.

"Well, that's awfully sharp. Nothing more important than learning, if you ask me anyway; Well, unless you count not hurting people. Top two things there, really."

"At times but in my world we have purebloods and halfbloods when it comes to magic" as Luna gave the short version of things. "I am a fullblood witch but one of my close friends is a halfblood since her parents are muggles. Then there is another friend who is a pureblood from a large family" thinking of Hermione and Ginny.

She didn't quite answer his question, so he supposed she didn't really ever ask how her magic worked - whether it was in her blood, or some sort of mark, if it was a matter of genetics or of brain. Though, his interest was quirked a bit at the thought of what muggles could be.

He held out the key to her room, "You'll need to go see your room," he said warmly, hoping it might bring her comfort.

Luna accepted the key and finally asked,"Tell me about these rooms?". The younger woman was still pretty shaken up by everything that has happened so far but maybe there was something along the lines of Lord Voldermot behind this somehow. "As for magic in my world its mostly genetics, purebloods have 2 magical parents and halfbloods are harder to explain, some have no magical parents while some only have one magical parent"

"The rooms?" He breathed a second, nobody ever out-questioned him before. "Well, they're meant to make people more comfortable, so they sort of mirror something that would remind you of home."

She was back to explaining parentage and wizardry - which would have interested him more if he had a method of doing genetic examination. It especially intrigued him that those with no direct lineage somehow wound up with these abilities. Perhaps on her world it was a manner of genetic mutation.

The Doctor's eyes went a bit glassy as he thought about the wonders of genetics

Luna followed the Doctor as they talked, mentally steering herself for the worst as she opened the door. "Merlin! This room is just like the Ravenclaw common room right down to the painting over the door" she exclaimed. Everything was there from the painting to the common room sofa but with a bed in the middle (one just like the dorm at school).

The Doctor sort of swayed a bit in the doorway watching as the girl flitted about the room knocking at pillows and tugging at curtains.

"The planet has a knack for that, making comfortable spaces we think of like home," he said with a fond grin.

"The house common room is like a second home while I am at school so it makes perfect sense" Luna could crack a smile. All that was missing was the house ghost, the Grey Lady. She finally asked the Doctor,"How about you, is there anyone from your world here?" not knowing that Tonks was on the planet.

"I guess I can hope for another witch or someone from my world being here" Luna observed. "But you travelled, I like that. Anyone interesting about your travelling friends here?"

"Oh, they're all interesting!" He said this cheerfully of course, because there was nothing really more interesting than the people who'd travelled with him.

"The planet has a way of giving us what we ask for, you never know someone might turn up for you," he said rubbing his forehead and thinking how a child generally needed a parent, even bright children.

"Hence me not losing hope for someone from my world or another magic user being pulled here!" Luna's eyes said it all. Luna may appear to be a total quirk magnet but being a Ravenclaw she was smarter than most would think. But all she wants right now is a friend.
