Day 30: Dean's All Wet
Who: Dean Winchester & Michiru Kaioh
What: Dean's doing laps
When: Day 30, early morning
Where: Indoor pool
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

Dean had had enough of trying to figure a way off this planet. He'd been there a several months and each day had just been an exercise in futility. The highlight had been meeting his brother Sam, a Sam from his future. They'd caught up, gotten into a sort of rhythm, had drinks and generally began to get on the same page. He had to admit it had been good realizing he wasn't as by himself as he'd always felt himself to be.

He was still not used to this inability to hunt monsters, kick ass and save lives the way he'd done for so long. He found himself punching holes in the walls of his bedroom almost every night when the frustration and his aggression got so pent up he couldn't contain it anymore.

That was why he was there standing on the edge of the indoor pool. Everyone seemed to be off doing activities of an active sort outside. It was easy to avoid most of them, and the possibility of going off the deep end in front of others, if he was in here. And the swimming would help. Maybe he would feel like interacting with people later on in the evening. Have a few brews with his brother. Maybe finally make a few friends too.

Tossing his towel on a chair that sat poolside, he peeled off his shirt and threw it after the towel. He glanced around the room, half hoping someone might be around. If someone joined him he could push himself harder, faster to compete. That would burn off a few more layers of frustration. But there didn't seem to be anyone nearby so after one long gaze at the jewel-like blue of the water, he took a deep breath and dove from the deep end. Cutting the water with clean strides, he began swimming long, even laps.

His eyes glittered at the challenge and he smiled at her, politely bowing even though he was excited to begin. "Yes, down and back. Though I have to warn you, I'm pretty damn good."

He pulled himself cleanly from the water, dripping as his feet slapped the tiles down to the end of the pool. He poised himself, toes curling around the edge of the pool, waiting for her to join him and follow suit.

This would be a cinch, he figured. There was no way this girl would beat him. No amount of fierceness hidden by asian demurity would out-swim him. He was unbeatable!

At his cocky assurance that he was good, Michiru debated asking if he wanted to make the race longer. She decided against it, figuring that would just add insult to the coming injury. Instead she just said, "I am a fairly decent swimmer" as she pulled herself out of the pool, water sheeting down her sides. She squeezed water out of her hair and moved to the end of the pool.

As she found her place on the edge and poised herself to dive in, she glanced over at the man. Everything about him at the moment screamed overconfidence - how he was standing, the set to his jaw, everything. It made her smile. "On three then?" she asked. "You can make the count"

He smiles at her, a smile that is meant to communicate that he might have gone easy on her if he was a less competetive guy and that she didn't know what she was getting into by taking him on. He shakes out his arms and legs and the extra water from his hair flings out in wild droplets around him. He bounces on the balls of his feet and swings his arms back and forth to stretch the muscles which he knows ripple attractively as he does so. He doesn't figure he can charm her into faltering but he definitely believes in if you've got it, flaunt it.

"Alright, sweetheart. Let's see what you're made out of in the water." He winks at her and turns back to the pool, focusing in on the deep blue. He takes a deep breath and counts down. "Three, two, one!" Then in one fluid movement he is in the water.

Michiru snorted softly at his comment, and waited for his countdown. He was just so sure of himself, it was almost endearing. Almost. Unfortunately for him, she never believed in giving anything other than her best. If he'd been a little less cocky, she might have warned him. As it stood, she felt no obligation to explain her connection to water and what that entailed.

At his 'one' she pushed off the side, her body arching through the air and into the water with a minimum of disturbance to the water's surface. As she slid into the water, she kicked powerfully, fully intent to stay under as long as possible. The further she could get under the water, the better.

Still, even she couldn't hold her breath forever, and she had to surface and begin swimming in earnest.

He was definitely in the lead. He could feel it. All of his muscles burned and his breath came in short gulps as he surfaced and made strong, long strokes toward the opposite end of the pool before sliding under to execute a very graceful and powerful underwater turn.

Mentally he imagined her defeated little pout when she realized she'd bitten off more than she could chew. Sure she was slender and more compact but he was strong and fast. He had been bred that way and he knew he would pull himself out of the water long before she found her way back down the length of the pool.

Briefly he allowed his concentration to break so he could glance over his shoulder to see where she was. He couldn't see her at all and that amused him so he pushed onward.

Oh yes, he had this in the bag. She couldn't even keep up. Poor little thing.

Michiru swam with smooth, practiced strokes, paying little attention to her competitor. She'd passed him during her underwater glide, so it was really just a matter of keeping the lead. However, she was never one to hold back, so the lead lengthened as she powered through the water.

A picture perfect flip turn sent her going back the way she'd come, and it seemed no time at all before her fingers once again brushed up against the side of the pool. A quick glance told her she'd not only won, but that her competition was still half way down the pool. With a small sardonic smile she pulled herself from the water and sat on the edge, squeezing water out of her hair as she waited for him to finish.

"Maa" she said, her tone mocking as Dean slapped the side of the pool. "And here you told me you were good"

Feel the burn, feel the burn! was his mantra inside his mind. Dean was smiling as he pushed himself to the limit, feeling like he was about to blow a heart valve as he pulled up to the wall from which he'd originated. The victory cry was already in his throat, caught in the breathlessness of having pushed himself so hard, as he lept from the water to his victory.

Except...

There she sat. Petite and adorable and before him. As his knees hit the tiles, pulling himself from the water, he faltered at the sight of Michiru. She'd finished before him. It wasn't possible. Was it? He was trained. Bred. He was at the top of his physical game and that was all there was to it.

But she'd won.

Sheepishly he sat on the edge of the pool and glanced over at her. "How?" he asked. "You're not exactly human are you?" He turned confused and slightly amused green eyes to her face and turned up the charm with a partial smile.

Michiru kicked her feet gently back and forth, sending up tiny sprays of water as she watched Dean pull himself out of the water. At his question she gave a shrug and half smile. "As far as I know, I'm human" she commented, slipping back into the water.

She turned so she could tread water and face him. There was still a faint glint of mocking in her eyes, which brightened as she noticed his confusion. "You're not used to losing are you?" she asked

"No, not really. The way things go, if I lose, I die. So I don't lose." He watched her tread water with interest as though studying how she moved in the water, taking notes as to how to do it similarly himself when next in the water.

Then he stood and grabbed his towel from the chair he had tossed it onto earlier before he had been so arrogant as to think he could be unbeaten. Toweling the water from his chest and hair he kept his gaze to the wall. It was a hard blow to realize that he was not infallible. That could be dangerous when/if he ever got back home. It made him realize too that he was not exactly who he thought he was and that he had to stay on his toes and at the top of his game even though there was nothing here to fight -- so far.

"So what are you up to for the rest of the day?" he asked over his shoulder to Michiru. He had a sparkle in his eyes now. The charm was back in place and he appeared as unshaken as he had before the whole thing.

Michiru swam a little as Dean turned away, giving him the space to sooth his own ego. She was not the most sympathetic person at the best of times, but she did know when to stop needling. She swam the width of the pool lazily, just enjoying the feel of water moving against her skin. It was so easy to lie back and let the water muffle all other noises until there was nothing but the quiet mummer of moving water.

Lost in the not-sound she almost didn't hear Dean's question. Fortunately she caught the tail end of it, and his expression more or less filled in the rest. He wasn't one to stay sulky for long. Good. That made him marginally more interesting. She swam over to the edge, resting on the lip as she looked up at him.

"I don't have plans" she said with the barest hint of a smile. "I would be content to swim most of the day, but if you have a better idea..." her voice trailed off
