Astor Bennett wants to kill things ([info]miami_angel97) wrote in [info]mirage_rpg,

Who: Astor Bennett, Sam Winchester, and OTA
When: Day 29, after the snowball fight
What: Astor needs to warm up with some hot chocolate and eat something
Rating: Probably PG at most
Status: Complete

After the snowball fight, Astor was tired, wet, cold, and hungry. And wired. She knew if she went back to her room, she could take a hot bath and ask the Planet for something to eat, but she was in a good mood. She'd all but forgotten that she was so upset about leaving Cody behind involuntarily. The people here, so far, were really nice and they knew how to have fun. Even the grown ups did!

She wandered around the resort for a little bit until she could smell the unmistakable scent of food and headed inside. It was a restaurant of some kind and there were weird stone statues standing around almost at random, but Astor ventured further in and took up a menu. A short scan of it gave her a big grin.

"Hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows. And a brownie. A big one that's really gooey and warm," she said to no one really in particular before plopping down into one of the booths and shaking the melting snow out of her hair.

After goofing around in the snow for a bit, Sam had wandered back inside to get something hot to drink in order to warm himself up. He choose to drink a beer, mulling things over in his head. Sam was glad he had a friend in Andy here and hoped things would improve with Dean. From before or not, he was still his brother.

A young kid wandered in and Sam recognized her from the snowball fight. He grinned slightly when he heard what she asked for. "That sounds really good," he commented, not moving closer in case she wanted some space.

Astor heard a voice and turned in her seat to look. It was one of the grownups from the snowball fight. One of the really, really tall grownups. He was even taller than Dexter and Dexter was pretty tall.

"My mom would totally kill me," she confessed, unable to hide her smirk. She supposed if there was one good thing about this place, it was that she was allowed to do whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted.

She tipped her head to the side just slightly as she looked at him. She'd thought she'd remembered him with some other grownup outside, but now he was alone. "Why're you sitting all by yourself?" she asked.

Sam laughed. "Probably." Sam couldn't say what his mother would do or not because she'd died when he was only 6 months old. "Just make sure you're not just eating sweet things, alright?"

When asked why he was alone, he shrugged. "No real reason. Just am. Wanted to come inside and get warm. How about you?"

Astor rolled her eyes and shook her head. "Geez, all grownups sound the same. I know," she said, drawing out the last word insolently. "I won't." God, he sounded like Dex, too.

The other guy shrugged when he replied to her question and then asked her about herself. Astor shrugged, too. "No real reason. Just am," she parrotted. "I don't have any friends, yet, really. Feels like payback for all the times I wouldn't talk to the new kids in school because they were new," she sighed.

As a big plate of brownies and her hot chocolate appeared on the table, Astor brightened significantly. "Geez, that's a lot of brownies! You can come have some if you want...I can't finish 'em all by myself," she said as she picked one up and took a bite. Ooey-gooey, just like Astor liked it.

Sam gave another little laugh when she parroted him. "The people here aren't so bad. I bet you wouldn't have a problem finding some new friends and I've seen a few kids around. I'm probably lucky that someone I know is here. My brother is here as well but he doesn't really know me. It's really weird."

Sam raised an eyebrow at the brownies. "That's probably one of the biggest plates of brownies I've ever seen. You sure you don't mind sharing?" he asked. "I'm Sam," he finally introduced himself. "Sam Winchester."

Astor smiled. "Yeah, I saw that one girl out in the snowball fight. You mean there's more than just her?" she asked, arching a hopeful eyebrow at the man. "How does your brother not know you?" she asked, frowning. "I'd die if Cody didn't know me..." she murmured more to herself than to him.

She saw the man look at the brownies. "I know, right?! I only asked for one and this showed up!" she squealed excitedly. "I definitely don't mind sharing. I'm Astor." She paused and smirked, deciding to parrot him again just because she knew it bugged Dexter and she might as well get her giggles while she could. "Astor Bennett." She giggled and pushed the plate of brownies toward the end of the table so he could get to them as she took another bite and swallowed with a careful sip of hot chocolate.

"I'm sure I've seen at least three kids around," Sam said honestly. "As for my brother, well, some of us show up from different points in time. We weren't really good friends earlier in my time line and that's where he's from, so he doesn't really know me because we haven't spent any time together like we have from when I came from. Does that make sense?" He wasn't sure if he was confusing the kid or not. "I mean, he knows who I am, but we're not really close."

Sam wasn't bugged at all by her parroting. He found it more amusing. Laughing, Sam held out a hand for her to shake. "It's nice to meet you, Astor Bennett." With his free hand, he reached forward to pick up one of the brownies and bite into it. Knowing he was in front of a kid, he kept his manners and swallowed first before he commented, "These are really good."

"Cool," Astor said, ignoring her own manners as she spoke with her mouth full. She did, however, cover her mouth with one hand as she did so.

She listened, intrigued with the time line thing Sam was talking about and frowned slightly. "Yeah, I think I get it. That totally sucks," she said sympathetically.

Grinning widely when he laughed, seeming to catch that she was copying him, Astor took his hand. "Nice to meet you, too," she said. "You can sit down. I'm not gonna scream 'stranger danger' or anything," she added.

He had said that the brownies were really good. "I know, right?! These are even better than my Mom's and that's saying a lot!"

Sam slipped into the seat next to her when she told him to sit. "Thanks. Don't want to have the golems come and drag me off," he joked.

"So where are you from? And when?" he threw in, since people seemed to be from different years. "Tell me about yourself. Not that I'm trying to be creepy or anything." He held up one of his hands in defense. "Figure I should get to know some new people."

"Is that what they're called? Those creepy statue things?" Astor asked.

She took another bite of her brownie and then sipped her hot chocolate, raising an eyebrow at him. "Miami, Florida. It's 2007, silly," she said with a patronizing roll of her eyes. She smiled a little, amused, when he held up a defensive hand and proclaimed he wasn't trying to be creepy. "I don't think you're creepy," she said with a shrug. "Tell you what about myself?" she asked.

Astor's social skills were lame and under-developed at best; non-existance at worst. She didn't have many friends back home because she and Cody spent so much time isolating themselves - together - that neither of them had bothered meeting other people. She hadn't ever really connected with any of the kids at school. So, needless to say, Astor had no idea what Sam would want to know. The most interesting thing about her was the one thing she couldn't talk about.

"Yep, they're golems. I've seen some weird stuff before in my life but never something like them. I'm from 2006. Sort of a drifter. I don't really have a place called home. If I do, it's my brother's car," he admitted with a slight chuckle. "We mostly stay in hotels, traveling around the States to do our job."

When Astor didn't seem to be sure what Sam wanted to know, he threw a few questions out there. "Like how old are you? I'm 23. What did you do back home besides go to school, I assume. What was your life like?" Sam crammed the rest of the brownie into his mouth and finished eating it while he listened to her reply.

"You're from last year?" Astor asked, raising her eyebrows with curiosity. "That's so weird. What kinda job makes you have to travel all the time? That must be sad, not getting to be with your family all the time, 'cept your brother, that is," she said. She picked up another brownie but before she could take a bite of it, her stomach protested. They were too rich. "Ugh, I want another one but I can't eat anymore," she laughed, putting the brownie back on the plate.

"You're twenty-three? Oh, my God, that's like twice my age! You're almost as old as my mom!" she gasped. Why was he even talking to her if he was so old? "I'm eleven," she added. "And...normal, I guess. I played Kick the Can a lot with Cody and Dexter or helped my mom in the garden. Sometimes on really hot days, Cody and I would sell lemonade for fifty cents or Mom and Dex would take us to the beach," she replied with a shrug. Didn't everybody go the beach on weekends?

Sam shrugged. "Not really. Dean's the only family I have left. Everyone else is dead." He smirked a little, wondering if she would believe him when he told her what he did for a living. "I hunt down supernatural things, like demons and spirits and such. Help them to move on or destroy them if they're hurting people."

"That's probably for the best," he admitted when she put the brownie back. "Don't want to make yourself sick."

When she mentioned going to the beach, for a moment he was reminded of when he was going to college. "I used to live in California for a bit while I went to college. Went to the beach a few times." He didn't mention that he'd gone with Jess or his old friends.

"Oh..." Astor said softly, feeling badly for bringing it up. She didn't know what she'd do if her mom was dead. Her father might as well be, for all she cared or knew, but that was an entirely different story.

"Like ghosts?" Astor asked, interested. "Have you ever seen one? I've always wanted to see a ghost because I think they're real but my mom says they're just figments of people's imagination," she went on. She didn't know what a demon was, but it was probably the same thing; she didn't bother asking to clarify.

Nodding, Astor finished her hot chocolate. "Yeah, it sucks being sick but it sucks more being sick when you're not home," she said with a tone of voice that suggested she knew just how unpleasant it was.

"California? That's way across the country!" she said in awe. "I've never been there... Is that where you came from? Do you miss it?"

"Oh, I've seen plenty of ghosts. I think about half the stuff we deal with are spirits," he admitted, thinking about things they had done. "Vengeful spirits out to get the person who murdered them, people who have died and are lonely and want someone to stay with them... Some cause harm, some don't." He chuckled. "There's a lot of stuff I've seen that your mom would say is just a figment of someone's imagination. We like to keep it that way most of the time, keep people thinking that. Sometimes it's better to not know things."

When Astor asked about California, Sam held his hand up flat horizontally and tilted it back and forth a little bit. "Eeeh, a little. I went to college there. I was born in Kansas. We left there when I was a baby though. We moved around a lot, never stayed in one place for long. I grew up living in motels."

Astor listened intently as Sam explained, but her eyes darkened a bit at the explanation of the vengeful spirits. She wondered if any spirits were out to get Dexter; if they would be out to get her and Cody, someday...if she ever got off this place and got to go home so Dexter could teach her how to do it right.

"My mom says that stuff's all just in the movies, but I don't believe her," she stated simply. "I wanna see sometime," she added. Although, only on her terms, went unsaid.

"I know where Kansas is!" Astor interjected proudly. "That's down south." She listened to the rest of what Sam had to say and tilted her head slightly to the side. "Did that suck? Always moving? I had a hard enough time making friends staying in one place..." she said softly.

Her Inside Shadow stirred a little. "Wait, did you say you kill them? The spirits and things?" she asked, intrigued. "How can you kill something that's already dead?" Astor thought maybe, just maybe...she'd just found a loophole to the Planet's last rule.

"Hopefully you won't have to," Sam said, his tone still casual but gaining some sincerity to it for a moment. "Some of it can be pretty bad stuff." When asked about moving, Sam shrugged. "Yeah. Didn't really have a chance to make any friends. But I was with my family all the time, and I had my brother looking out for me, so it wasn't so bad. Meet a lot of interesting people that my dad worked with." That was an understatement, Sam thought to himself in amusement.

Sam raised an eyebrow, wondering why she looked so interested in how to kill ghosts. "Well, yeah they're already dead but humans aren't just bodies. We've got out souls and minds inside us too, you know? And sometimes, after you die, your body and soul split. Your soul might stick around instead of going on to the afterlife, whatever that is, if you have unfinished business. Some souls get corrupted, so they only have one thing on their mind, like hurting people or getting revenge. That's where my brother and I come in. We stop them. To get rid of a spirit you have to salt and burn the remains of the body the spirit once lived in."

"Well, I want to," she repeated matter-of-factly, sitting back against the booth's seat. She listened further and smiled slightly. At least he'd had his brother.

When he started to talk about killing the spirits, Astor sat forward again, listening raptly, nodding when appropriate. "What about zombies?" she asked. "Are those real, too? Living dead? Is it the same as killing living people?" she asked.

The Inside Shadow was positively writhing with excitement, now. And, because of it, Astor was getting antsy. Now, she could ask him a more important question.

Licking her lips, she tried every hard to grin evilly. "Can you do it here? I mean with the no killing rule, if there was a spirit, could you still kill it here? Since it's already dead?"

"Zombies? Not the kind that stumble around and go 'Braaaaaaains'," Sam said, putting on his best zombie face, which wasn't much. "There was one case where we did have to deal with a... reanimated person," he said carefully, not sure he should use the word 'corpse' around a kid.

The more Astor asked about killing things, the more Sam started to get weirded out. "Uuuuh. No, it's not the same as killing a human because these are things that have been hurting other people and need to be put to rest. But not all supernatural things are evil. Like vampires. I've come across a few vampires who refuse to eat human blood. They drink animal blood instead. If there was a spirit here, I imagine it wouldn't be a problem if I got rid of it, because it's not really killing it. It's already dead. It's just... sending it on, I guess you could say."

Seeing her weird grin disturbed Sam even more. He gave her a really odd look. Was this girl like a serial killer in training or what?

Astor blinked when Sam explained how it was different. "But some living people hurt people and the police don't always catch them," she pointed out. "So isn't it kind of a little bit the same?" Surely, he had to see the point she was trying to make.

She paused. "Vampires are real, too?! Like Dracula?!" she asked, wide-eyed with fascination. "They're alive...do you kill them?" she asked, ignoring the fact that he'd said the ones he'd come across hadn't been hurting human beings.

Killers were killers, the way Astor saw it. Dexter was different. He was special; he was careful to only pick the ones who were hurting people, which, as far as Astor could see, was exactly what Sam was doing...except not humans.

"Yeah, a little bit, but that's not for us to judge," Sam said carefully. "That's what we have lawyers for and hopefully they're good enough that they send the right people to jail to be punished. I was going to be a lawyer before I took up this hunting job," he admitted. "Some things are just evil. And some people are just crazy. But they shouldn't be killed, they should be taken somewhere where they can get help. They're human. There's a difference. Yeah, vampires are real and I only kill the ones that won't stop killing other people even after I try and get them to stop. If I can reason with something, I always try that first. Just going in and killing something isn't the way things should be done."

Astor gave a sigh of frustration. "But Dexter says, 'the system is flawed' and that sometimes bad guys...really, really bad guys don't get caught. And that they just keep on hurting people until somebody stops them," she explained with as much patience as she could muster.

Sam had said he was going to be a lawyer, so Astor bit her tongue against going on about overhearing Dexter and Sergent Debbie talking about corrupt judges and lawyers making lives for good cops harder. She probably wasn't supposed to hear that conversation anyway, so no point bringing it up to Sam.

"Some people are crazy, but aren't there also some people who are just evil? Like...Charles Manson, he was a really, really bad man," she said knowingly. "He made people kill other people. That's not just crazy, that's evil. Right? So it's like that, right?" she tried to appeal her case to him.

For a few moments, Astor had been really excited. Maybe she'd found somebody with an Inside Shadow or Dark Passenger who just harnessed it differently than Dexter did; differently than she and Cody were going to. Now, she wasn't so sure.

"Well... The system isn't perfect and some people do get away when they shouldn't..." Sam reluctantly admitted, "but that doesn't mean someone should just go around killing other people. It'd only make you exactly like them, a killer. They justify killing other people themselves and think they're doing the right thing. What one person sees as evil, another person may see as good, you know?" he tried to explain. "And..." I can't believe I'm saying this to someone who doesn't look older than thirteen, Sam mentally told himself before he went on, "yeah, there are some people who go out and get rid of those guys that go free. But I think... or at least I'd like to hope, that they don't do it just because they like killing other people. They don't do it because it's fun. They do it stop someone who's hurt a lot of other people."

For a moment, Sam was reminded of when he killed Madison, to prevent her from hurting others as well as herself. This is possibly one of the most weirdest situations you have had a conversation like this in, Sam, he thought silently.

Astor kept her mouth shut and listened as he spoke. She didn't really know how Dexter's Dark Passenger worked. She'd gotten the idea that he'd been practicing; honing his skills; for a long time. Maybe it wasn't fun for him, anymore. Maybe it just...was. Like a job; something that just needed to be done to clean up after the faulty system. But, Dexter worked for the police, so he couldn't be bad.

She squirmed a little, wanting to talk about the Inside Shadow. To ask if Sam had one that she just couldn't sense. She was still learning and without Dexter, she might never get to unless she found someone here who could teach her. Could Sam, or couldn't he? And if he could...would he?

Suddenly, she decided she needed a distraction and, ignoring the discomfrot in her stomach, she stuffed another brownie - whole - into her mouth to stall.

"What about you?" she asked when she'd swallowed, having given herself ample time to mull over the right way to word it as she'd been chewing. "What if you knew somebody was really bad or was hurting people? Would you kill them to stop them if no one else could or would? Or would you leave it and hope someday somebody put them in jail?"

It was as good a wording as she could come up with without drawing any more attention to herself than she already had. If she put it in his court, maybe it'd be less strange than generalizations and hypotheticals.

Sam just sat and watched Astor for a bit. She seemed to be thinking things through in her mind. He smirked a little when she suddenly just grabbed a brownie and shoved it in her mouth. What brought that on?

Then she popped a question. Sam was silent for a long moment, shifting uncomfortably. Finally, he slowly admitted, "Yeah... I have. Look, kid, why are you so interested in all this stuff?" Sam imagined a girl her age should be playing with Barbie dolls, not asking questions about killing things.

Astor watched him while he shifted uncomfortably and replied that he had. Part of her perked hopefully again. The other part, however, was still not so sure. "I'm not," she admitted. "It's not me, it's the Inside Shadow. I don't really care either way," she said with a shrug, as if it was the most normal thing in the world to say.

She picked up her hot chocolate mug and looked down into it, wishing it was full again. After that brownie, now she was thirsty. She smiled a little when it refilled itself and she took a sip, looking back at Sam.

"What do you mean by that?" Sam asked. He'd never heard of something referred to as an Inside Shadow before. At least she hadn't ask him another question about killing stuff again. Sam didn't want to explain to anyone, let alone a kid, what he'd had to do in the past.

Astor shrugged again and picked at another brownie she knew her stomach wouldn't let her eat. "Just...it doesn't matter to me, but sometimes the Inside Shadow takes over. It cares," she said. It made sense to her because that was how Dexter explained it. She wasn't sure what else she could say about it, unless Sam had one. She still wasn't sure whether or not he did.

"What's an Inside Shadow?" Sam asked. He didn't make the question sound like he thought she was crazy. Even though the kid did creep him out a bit, he wondered if she really had something inside of her that was the cause of it all. "Could you explain it to me?"

"Not really," she admitted. "I only know what it wants. I don't know what it is or how it got there."

That was part of why Astor wanted so badly for Dexter to teach them - she and Cody, that was - about it. She knew next to nothing about it except that Dexter had said that they were too young and they couldn't understand; they would have to wait. That, and she knew that it made her want to hurt people; kill.

"I'm not supposed to talk about it because Dexter says only other people with it will understand. That it scares people or something," she added.

Astor frowned. Was that some kind of a challenge? Dexter would be so mad, but...

"It wants to kill people," she said bluntly, taking a sip of her hot chocolate. She set the mug down and gave him a small smile that didn't reach her eyes, as if to say, 'so there...don't you wish you hadn't asked?'

Astor blinked and raised her eyebrows at him. "What's that mean? Cristo?" she asked, frowning slightly. Why were grown ups always using big words that Astor didn't understand?

"I don't know," she answered, shrugging. "I don't know why, I don't know if I've always had it. Probably. Cody has it too. And Dexter. And Dexter..." she sighed, "was going to teach us how to use it the right way. So we don't hurt innocent people."

Part of her wanted to keep going but if Dexter ever found out, he'd be mad enough as it was. "That's why I wanna know about the ghosts. Cuz, if they're already dead...I'm not hurting anybody, but I can make the Inside Shadow shut up once in a while," she admitted almost apologetically, looking down. "I freak you out now, huh?" she asked, ashamed and unwilling to meet his eyes.

Okay, scratch that off, she wasn't possessed. "Uuuhm. Never mind."

He didn't know what else to say on that subject. If she didn't know what it was and had more or less always had it... Heck, maybe there was nothing wrong with her and that's the way she just was. Sam had run into crazy people he didn't understand before. This wouldn't be the first. He just didn't expect it to be a kid.

"I don't think there are any ghosts here," he said in an almost apologetic way. "Whoa, hey, no, I'm not freaked out," Sam reassured. "Trust me, it takes more to freak me out then what you've told me. I've seen a lot."

Astor looked up slowly again, frowning. "You're not?" she asked, a little uncertainly. She looked away again, chewing her bottom lip before looking back at him. "You can't tell anybody," she said solemnly. "I'm not supposed to tell about the Inside Shadow. Do you promise?"

Could she trust him? What if he told everybody and then nobody wanted to talk to her or play with her anymore? As if this place wasn't lonely enough...

"I don't know what to do," she pouted, putting on the brave face again and willing herself not to cry. "It keeps getting worse. Ever since Mom caught Cody and me with the neighbor's cat...it just keeps getting worse and sometimes it gives me headaches and makes me really grouchy...I hate it," she admitted. That was something she'd never told anyone. Not even Dexter. Not even Cody.

"I promise, I'm not freaked out and I promise I won't tell," Sam told her sincerely. He frowned as she talked more about it. It sounded like it was something hard for her to control. Sam was itching to find out exactly what this thing was. He reached out and put a hand on her shoulder, trying to be comforting. "Hey, maybe there's something I can do to help. I don't know what exactly but there's got to be something, right? What's this about the neighbor's cat?"

Astor gave Sam a small, grateful smile. "Thanks," she said, blushing slightly at having acted like such a baby.

"There's probably nothing you can do. I'm not allowed to kill anything here, huh?" she asked.

When he asked about the cat, Astor's face went more red and she looked down, letting out a sigh. "Cody and I tied it up and we were gonna kill it with Dex's chainsaw, but Mom caught us before we could and made us let it go..." she admitted.

Again, Sam froze. She was going to kill a cat with a chainsaw? "Whoa, you must have really hated that cat," he said, trying to put some humor into the situation. Sam was starting to think that he couldn't help this kid. What she needed was a doctor and an insane asylum or something. Well... At least she was showing restraint. She didn't seem crazy. She just seemed like she had some... issues she had to work on. And keep in check. "You said Dexter was teaching you about this Shadow. Does he do that? Kill people?"

"No, but we were getting headaches and the Inside Shadows were taking over. When that happens...we don't know what to do. When we were smaller, we used to burn ants with magnifying glasses in the sun but now that we're older...we need more. I figured, since Dexter wouldn't teach us, we'd do it ourselves and it's just a cat..." she explained, looking back at him with a frown.

He didn't understand. He never would. She shouldn't even be talking to him about it...

"No, Dexter wouldn't teach us. He said we were still too little and we had to wait," she corrected. "But he was gonna."

She shifted uncomfortably on her side of the booth. Dexter would ground her so bad right now...but she couldn't make herself stop talking. She needed someone to confide it to and Sam said he wasn't scared of her. So it would have to be him.

"Yeah, but Dexter only kills really bad people who hurt lots of other people but the police can't catch. But it's okay, Dexter works for the Miami police, so he knows who deserves it," she said.

Sam shifted a little bit, pondering about what he should say. This was a kid who didn't seem to have some... thing inside of her. It seemed to just... be how she was. Sam didn't understand how someone could want to kill someone just for the hell of it but he'd seen other people do it before when he'd been captured by the cannibals. And this was a kid. Maybe if he tried to do something, help her somehow, he could do something to alleviate it or stop it.

Maybe she was like this because of this Dexter person. Maybe he'd done something to her? Although what, Sam wasn't sure. She seemed to looked up to whoever he was. Maybe it was some weird Stockholm syndrome sort of thing.

Sam sighed a little. "I don't quite understand it," he admitted honestly. "But you want to know something? I think I might have an inside shadow too. Not the same as yours, I don't think, because I don't want to kill things but... I know it's there and it worries me sometimes. I'm afraid it might make me hurt people who don't deserve to be hurt at all, especially people I'm close to."

Then it was Astor's turn to shift slightly with discomfort, because Sam took what seemed like a very long time to say anything. He looked like he was thinking and Astor's stomach turned nervously at the possibility of exactly what.

"You...have an Inside Shadow, too?" she asked uncertainly. "How do you know it's there if it doesn't make you want to kill things? I don't understand," she admitted, feeling a little frustrated and upset that it seemed like he was trying very hard to be on the same wavelength and she couldn't quite catch him, anyway. The last bit, though, caught her attention and she looked down, nodding. "Sometimes, I'm scared of that, too. When the Inside Shadow is sleeping, I get scared. I never told anybody that it scares me before... Sometimes, I worry that when it wakes up it will want me to hurt Cody or Mom. I never worry about Dexter; I think my Inside Shadow would be smarter than that, but still..."

The little girl's voice trailed off and she sighed. "But what do I do? I'm not allowed to let it do anything here, anyway, because the rules said so...so what do I do make the headaches stop?" she asked. "If I can't do anything and nobody can teach me, then I want to make it go away."

"I dunno, kid," Sam admitted honestly, feeling a bit frustrated himself for not knowing what to do to help. "I don't know exactly what it is so I'm not sure how to fix it. I'll try and do what I can to figure it out though, okay? How about this? You keep tabs on me and I'll keep tabs on you and we'll both make sure we don't do anything bad here." Of course he meant his part of that more, not excepting a little kid to be able to stop him if he went crazy, but he wanted to make her feel like... like she could be doing something, something to distract her from this shadow, if she wanted.

Astor looked back at Sam, scrutinizing him for a moment, unsure. "Okay," she agreed reluctantly after a short pause. "Will you promise and tell me when you figure out what to do to help me?" she asked.

Her stomach was positively aching now. She should've listened when he'd said not to eat too many sweet things. That last brownie had done her in. "I don't feel so good," she admitted, rubbing her belly. "I think I should go lay down. I'm in B214. So you know where to find me when you figure it out," she said slowly, standing and closing her eyes; her stomach felt over-full and heavy. "Thanks anyway. You can have the rest of the brownies, if you want," she added.

Sam held up three fingers. "Scouts honor," he joked, even though he hadn't been a Boy Scout. "I promise," he said, softer and more serious. "That's what I do, help people."

He got to his feet when she did, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Nah, I think I'll leave them here. Someone's bound to come along and eat them. I'm in C111 if you need anything before then or if you just want to talk," Sam offered. "I hope your stomach ache doesn't last long. Ask for some gingerale if it doesn't settle, that might help."

Astor looked up at Sam and smiled a little, nodding. "Thanks," she said softly. "I hope you can help me."

She appreciated that Sam was giving her his room number in case she needed anything. Especially since Sam was the only person Astor had really and truly told about the Inside Shadow.

"I might," she replied vaguely, not necessarily wanting to commit to it, but also not wanting to brush off the offer.

When he told her what to do to settle her stomach if the tummy ache lasted too long she nodded and gave him a small smile again. "Thanks," she said. "I'll try and remember that."

With a soft sigh and then a groan of discomfort, Astor took a few more steps toward the door. "Thanks for not being scared of me," she told him as she looked over her shoulder. "See you around, Sam, Sam Winchester," she added with a little smirk before she headed out the door and made her way back to her building. Hopefully a nap and maybe some of the ginger ale Sam had mentioned would make her feel better and then she could go out and play in the snow later.
