Day 28
Who: Astor Bennett, Sidney Prescott, and OTA
When: Day 28
What: Astor arrives
Rating: Probably PG at most
Status: Complete

Astor could feel the guard's rancid breath on the back of her head as he held her steady before Moloch. Cody was a few feet away, also restrained and she was angry. If anything happened to Cody on her watch, there'd be hell to pay. If only Dexter had taught them what they knew he knew, maybe she'd have been better prepared to defend herself - and Cody, too-quiet Cody, for that matter - but he hadn't and here she was, standing in front of what the weird guy kept calling "Moloch," her arms aching in the guard's tight grip. She could feel the sweat trickling down her back beneath her tank top and wondered if it was because it was so freaking hot in there...or if she was just more scared than she was willing to admit to even herself.

Closing her eyes, she held back her tears. She wouldn't let them see her cry. Not when she'd been such a smarty pants before they'd moved her here. No way. Besides, if Cody saw her cry, he'd lose it; she knew it. If Astor could help it, she wasn't going to let that happen.

Please, Dexter...come... she thought miserably. The weird guy had said that they were waiting for Dexter. Astor had expected, any minute, for Dexter to swoop in and save the day; to take she and Cody back to their mom.

But the minutes had gone by, and Dexter still hadn't come. She wondered if something awful had happened to him. It must've, because she knew in her heart of hearts, deep down beyond her seething Inside Shadow, that Dexter would come for her; for them.

She willed herself and Cody to be back in Sergent Debbie's car, back in time. Willed them back into their backyard where they'd been picking up their toys while Mom had been getting ready for the hurricane that was on the way. Willed them anywhere. Anywhere but here.

And then, suddenly, Astor felt cold. Very cold. The guard had let her go and her sandalled feet were wet and burning from the chill - how is that even possible?! - and the stench of sweat and blood was gone, replaced by something she couldn't put her finger on. Crisp and clean, maybe, but she wasn't sure. She opened her eyes, shaking, and wrapped her arms around herself, finally letting the tears fall freely. She wasn't in front of Moloch. Dexter hadn't whisked them away. ...Cody wasn't even here - wherever here was. There was white stuff all over the ground - stuff she'd never seen before but thought was snow - and Astor hadn't ever felt as cold in her entire life.

She looked around, shivering and teeth chattering. There were buildings in the distance that looked like where Mom had said Dexter lived. Apartments, she thought she remembered her mother calling them. Sort of like Dexter's, but not really, either. But most importantly, she'd realized it before, but it hit her hard now, like a punch to the gut. Astor was alone. Cody was gone.

"Cody?" she called out in a watery voice, whirling in circles to look for him. "CODY!"

She was sobbing now and hadn't even noticed, too busy looking for her brother. As much as she wanted to move, her whole body was stiff with cold and, as the tears froze to her face, itchy and painful, she called out again. "Cody, where are you?!"

Her voice echoed lightly and with a hiccuping inhale of air that stung in her throat and chest, Astor dropped down into the snow, drawing her knees up to her chest and hugging herself tight against the chilly air. Unable to ignore the cold but not knowing what else to do, Astor dropped her head down onto her knees and cried freely. She was alone and she was lost. Wherever she was, Dexter wouldn't find her here. He wouldn't be able to bring her home to her mom, she was sure of it. And beside all that...would she ever get to see Cody again? Was he safe? Had she somehow abandoned him and was he hurt? What if Dexter didn't get to Cody, either? What if he was somewhere all alone and scared like she was and there was nothing she could do to help him?

Astor's skin was red and it hurt like sunburn, only worse, as the breeze hit her bare arms and nearly bare legs. The snow was leaking water into her shorts and right down to the skin. She looked up again and, hopelessly, wailed for help.

"Don't think so" Sidney hated having to tell Astor that. "People have tried everything to get out but so far nothing is working" as she sipped her own drink.

"Good question actually, I know there's a 16 year old around and heard of another kid landing here in the last day or so. Not sure how old he is to be honest. But I'm only 22 so can't be that old" trying to lighten the mood a tiny bit.

Astor heaved a sigh. That was the answer she was both dreading and expecting to hear. There really was no way out. "I'll be standing in line for my turn when they figure it out, you can bet that," she said with a firm nod.

Wavering slightly and not wanting to be rude, Astor nodded a little. "Guess I'll find out eventually. It's not like I'm going anywhere anytime soon..." she said with a smile that didn't reach her eyes.

"You and me both!" Sidney had to smile at that. "But think I can offer an idea? People have been finding ntoebooks in their rooms so maybe you can make an entry to see if there are other kids around?" she figured no harm in at least making the suggestion.

"I have room already?" Astor asked, rather than respond to the suggestion in itself. As much as she wanted to keep putting on the brave face or go on failing to hide her emotion toward the situation, Astor was emotionally and physically drained. A room would have a bed...and a bed meant a nice, long nap. Maybe she'd wake up and be back home. "Can I go there? I'm pretty tired..." she finally admitted aloud.

"B214 according to these keys and by the looks you are near a James Norrington" Sidney nodded. "Sure and if you need me I'm over in F205" as Sidney got a to-go cup of Astor's drink since it was nippy out. "We have a bit of a walk but its not too far so you ready?"

Smiling weakly, Astor nodded and took the to-go cup from Sidney. "Thanks," she said and, eager to lay down now that she'd gotten it in her head that she wanted a nap, she headed toward the door. "I'm ready," she added, looking over her shoulder at Sidney.

Sidney pulled on her coat as she opened the door for Astor. "Bit of a walk and I should warn you about the rooms. They look like our rooms at home would, mine is a recration of the condo I was living in" she added.

Astor frowned a little and followed Sidney out the door and toward the buildings. If her room would like the one she had at home, she wondered if it'd have Cody's bed on the opposite side of the room from hers. That would be awfully depressing...

"Neat..." she said listlessly.

Astor looked around, pulling her coat in closer around herself as she walked, checking out her surroundings. Wherever this place was, it was obviously winter and she hoped it was almost over. Astor hated snow, now.

"When I get to my room, I'm putting on a million blankets and going to sleep," she said quietly.

"Can't really blame you" Sidney was honest. They walked into B building as Sidney located the right room,"You know where to find me otherwise and consider my idea? Might help you locate other kids" as she unlocked the door and handed Astor the keys.

Astor took her key and nodded. "Yeah, thanks," she said, making a mental note to check out the book Sidney had mentioned. "Thanks for helpin' me out," she added giving Sidney a small smile.

Letting herself into the room, she stopped for a moment. "I'll see you around," she breathed, a lump in her throat as she looked into the room. It did look just like her room at home...and it had Cody's bed, too. And that stupid bear. Astor closed her eyes and let the tears slip down her cheeks. She didn't want to be rude, but she didn't want Sidney to see her cry. Not again, anyway. "Thanks again," she choked before closing the door and without looking back at the other woman. She'd make an attempt to apologize for her lack of manners another time, but right now, she just wanted to lay on her bed and cry until she couldn't anymore.

(OOC: shoot me a PM or something if you're not gonna reply so I can go ahead and call this complete?)

Sidney had quietly slipped out to give Astor some space. If she felt like she had when she walked in to find what was basically her condo at the height of Ghostface then it would not be pretty. But she left a note for Astor to find that wa s a simple,"If you need me or just need to vent leave me a private note in the notebook".

(I think we can call this done, Sid slipped out to give Astor some space)
