Day Twenty Seven
Who: The Doctor [info]fromgallifrey and Andy [info]brain_ninja
When: Day 27, morning
What:  Doctor arrives to an infinite level of being perplexed
Where:  The TARDIS is plopped at the foot of the ski-lift
Rating: PG, I suppose
Status: Complete

The door to the TARDIS went bang with a slam of the door and a flurry of red hair as Donna was on her way to a prompt visit home. The Doctor had decided it best to stay in and just wait it out. He was checking the circuitry just below the hammer-gripped console making absolutely certain that the repair he'd made about 200 years ago was still holding. Pointing his screwdriver he re-fused the wires together. "There you are then," he said to the TARDIS, moving to stand.

As The Doctor stood it felt like the TARDIS itself shook, "What?!"

Straightening up he rocked back on his heels, hands running down his thighs as he redeposited his screwdriver back into his pocket. Closing the gap between the platform and the door he pushed open the exit and squinted at the bright wintry day. "What?!"

Closing the door he walked back inside, looking around. Yes, this was his TARDIS. Yes, the console was still open where he'd been checking his mono-phasic circuitry  Alright, he was in the TARDIS. Closing the gap again he peeked out into the snowcovered landscape. There were no rowhouses, no streets, no sirens, and no Donna. "Oh..." Came a sigh as the door to the TARDIS shut behind him.

"Where am I then?" He asked himself, feeling the chill of the snow creeping through his shoes and up his ankles. This was not right, not right at all. The TARDIS hadn't been active, which means the TARDIS didn't bring him here. There had been no whooshing or blinking lights.  With a crunch of the snow beneath him he unlocked the TARDIS door, scurried up to the consol and tried to shift her back into gear. "C'mon," he said, the TARDIS whooshing and whistling and settling with a whiney thud.

"What's that then? You got us back to Donna then?" He asked, again heading out the door, back into the snow.

"Hmmmm," he breathed, looking at the ski lift and the lodge below.  "Right."

Andy fell into a coughing fit as he leaned against one of the walls of the snow fort he'd built with Giselle a few days ago. He'd wanted to meet up with her again to hang out, but she seemed to be...well, nowhere. It wasn't like they were best friends or anything - hardly friends at all, if he was honest - but she made him smile and her innocence had been equally as amusing as it had been refreshing. In short, he missed her.

A heavy thudding sound shook Andy from his self-induced trance of thought. He shifted and peeked out of the makeshift window they'd created as he took another hit off the bong. Nothing there; at least, not from what he could see from his current position.

It was cashed and Andy sighed. "I want more," he mumbled, frowning as he looked at the plastic baggie he'd found empty for the first time since arriving. Nothing happened. "Do I have to go back to my friggen room for you to refill it?!" he snapped at no one, looking up at the sky as he addressed the Planet itself, knowing he wasn't going to receive an answer.

Deciding that going back to his room was exactly what he'd have to do to re-acquire his stash, Andy stood, sighed, and brushed the snow off his rear end before pulling his coat in around himself and exiting the fort.

Vroop, vroop, vroop, thud.

Andy raised an eyebrow. "...the hell...?" he murmured, heading toward the ski lift, where he thought, perhaps, the sound had originated. As he drew nearer, he spotted an old fashioned blue telephone box. Though the Planet had a weird way of doing things sometimes, Andy was pretty sure that the thing was out of place at best and not part of the Planet's plan, at worst.

That was when he saw a lanky-looking dude come out of it and look around. He looked lost. New arrival, Andy thought.

"Hey, man, you all right over there?" he called out, continuing to make his way closer, squinting against the reflection of the sun against the pristine snow.

He saw a man come out from seemingly nowhere and trundling up the hill toward him with a curious expression on his face. Well, he was human, that was good and limited the number of places he might be. Well, that is unless he'd been swept into a parallel timeline where humanity had reached out past borders he hadn't even thought of (and that was saying a lot, because The Doctor thought the cleverest of humans would find their way anywhere.

'Hey man, you all right over there?' Yelled the guy, squiting and trudging and coming closer. It certainly made The Doctor happy that he wasn't pointing some sort of weapon at him, which seemed to happen every time he landed somewhere when he didn't know where he was.

"I'm alright, I guess. Where exactly is here?" His question came quick as he walked in a circle around the TARDIS, taking in where in the universe they were.

"Must be something pretty powerful right? Something to keep my TARDIS from getting out..." He was rambling, yes.

Andy fully approached and smirked as the man asked where he was. "Ah, you must be new," he replied casually. "You're on The Planet."

He paused, looking around and raising an eyebrow. "TARDIS?" he asked. Then, he giggled. ...and giggled, and giggled until he was laughing with no sound and clutching his stomach as he gasped for air.

"Haaaaa sorry," he apologized as he regained his composure. "What the fuck is a TARDIS, man? Seriously! I'm all for making up words, but that's the most random word I've ever heard in my life!" he laughed.

"The Planet?" Tick two on the 'this doesn't make any sense' list.

"The Planet of....?" He was trying to coax out of the man where exactly they were. Canting his head a bit he made perfect sense of why the man wasn't making any sense: he was knackered.

"Right."

He stopped his circling, again facing in the direction of the lodge with the ski lift behind him. He could hear the cackling of the stranger. "Police Call Box, you must have misheard, eh?" He said scratching the top of his head.

Clearing his throat and forcing a straight face, Andy shrugged. "Just 'The Planet,' dude. That's all. That's the name of it. Welcome to the land of awesome, my friend," he said with a wide grin, only just keeping the urge to give the guy a playful punch in the arm to himself.

"Police Call Box..." Andy repeated, nodding at the thing. "I'm positive I heard you say TARDIS. Is that British slang for phone booth or something? Because that is definitely a phone booth from where I'm standing," he said.

Taking a deep breath and stretching, he looked back at the man. "Oh! I'm Andy, by the way. I was kinda busy, I guess, but I have a minute...I can take you to read the tablet and get your room key, if you want," he offered with a lazy grin, his head swimming pleasantly.

Just the planet? There is no planet in the universe known as just the planet - the Shadow Proclamation wouldn't allow such a thing - they liked titles those ones. Maybe it was just this guy was so far up that he didn't know where he was? Stranger things have happened.

"No, Call box... TARDIS... sound remarkably similar when you think about it..." He trailed off, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Andy?" He questioned, filing the name away, "I'm the Doctor," he said with a grin as he looked from his call box down to the lodge and the wonderful plume of smoke coming up from the chimney. It'd be warm there.

"So, who's in charge, then?" There was always someone in charge.

Andy raised an eyebrow. "...they sound nothing alike. Like, at all," he pointed out, smirking. "You must be on some good stuff too," he added as an afterthought, more to himself than to the other man.

"Doctor...who?" he asked, confused. "Or Doctor what? Or...heh, you know, whatever," he added, waving a hand almost dismissively beside his face as he closed his eyes and shook his head to signify that he wasn't sure what he meant but assumed the other man would.

When he opened his eyes again, he saw the man who called himself the Doctor looking down at the lodge. "Yeah, that's not where we need to go, actually," he said, starting away. "Y'comin?"

The other man asked who was in charge and Andy paused, making a face. "Dunno, actually. The Golems, maybe? They're...well, they're not really people, I guess, so maybe not." He shrugged. "I think, actually, the Planet just does its thing all by itself...but I'm still sort of new here myself, so I'm not really sure," he admitted and started to walk again, beckoning the Doctor with one hand.

"Y'Comin?' Andy asked, causing him to turn on his heels, squint in the direction of the other man and cant his head a bit. He wasn't going to try and convince him that Call box and TARDIS sounded similar - mostly because he was right.

"Just the Doctor," he said, stomping up through the ankle deep white-stuff so that he could follow fairly easily.

"So, the planet just runs it all, then?" Well that made absolutely no sense. "Wait, so, you're not from here, then? How'd you come?"

"Just the Doctor," the other man had declared and Andy raised an eyebrow, shaking his head. "Just the Doctor? Just the Doctor; just the Planet..." he sighed, looking over his shoulder at the Doctor. "Bit pretentious, don'tcha think?" he joked, winking.

As they walked - or rather, waded - through the snow, the Doctor asked how Andy had come.

Shrugging again, Andy let out a sigh. "Dunno. Fell asleep in the US somewhere in some creepy Frontierland-lookin' town and woke up here. Kinda freaky at first, but if you think about it...it's kind of awesome. I don't ever have work, already have a room that looks just like home...and a never-ending stash of primo grass. Can't lose," he chirped, grinning at the Doctor. "The tablet will explain everything," he added, figuring that the tablet would probably be able to do a better job than Andy himself would.

Andy pulled his coat around him more tightly as they passed his snow fort. "Oh, time out, bro," he said quickly, backtracking and heading into the fort to retrieve the empty baggie, his lighter, and the bong he'd aptly named Moby Dick. He slung it over his shoulder and shoved the baggie and lighter into his coat pocket before exiting the fort again. "Onward, ho," he said, starting back toward the resident buildings again.

"No, it's just my name, The Doctor," It was like this every time. Sooner or later they gave up, moved on, and just called him that.

"So you don't know how you got here then?" Oh, that wasn't good. Last time he'd been snatched out of space he'd wound up having to escape from a game-show gone wrong, free his companions from a similar fate, watch Rose overtake the Daleks and then save Rose. That had been utterly exhausting, and he really wasn't looking forward to regenerating again.

"And it seems you don't have any way to leave then?" He didn't like the sound of this. It was like a prison. A happy prison for some, maybe; but, the Doctor didn't care much for captivity. One gets fairly used to coming and going as they please after a few centuries.

It seemed Andy was leading them in the direction of some residential facilities. "You said something about a tablet, then?" He was looking around, no sign of a tablet he could find. This was just plain old peculiar.

"How many people are there, then?"

"If you say so, man, I'll call you whatever you want; I don't care," Andy replied with an indifferent shrug. If this guy wanted to be called 'Doctor,' then who was Andy to deny him.

He went on walking, squinting still as the sun shined brightly down on them, and looked over at the Doctor. "Guess not. I like it here though. Beats sleepin' in a van," he replied. "I mean, I kinda know how I got here. For whatever reason, we were chosen, from what I gather. Ha ha, Planet, very funny, right?" he asked, rolling his eyes playfully. "For what, I dunno, but I mean, everything is really relaxed here... They give entertainment; anything you could ever want, you just think it and it's there..." he paused and thought back to where he'd been before he woke up here. He gave the Doctor a tiny, wan smile. "And killing is not allowed, so there's that...more than I can say for where I came from," he muttered.

As he approached the building that housed the tablet, Andy nodded at the Doctor's inquiry. "Yeah, in here," he said, pulling open the door and waving the Doctor inside. "How many people are where? Here, like right here in this room? Or...?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

So, in they stepped into the room with the 'tablet,' it was sort of awkward for the Doctor, because he didn't like feeling so foreign - and foreign is just the sensation that tickled the back of his mind and distracted him from the numbness in his feet and hands.

He listened as Andy explained that the planet provided everything he wanted. Powerful place indeed. "I'd imagine it does seem rather attractive," he remarked, stepping up toe to toe with the tablet and skimming it over. He didn't like a word of what he was reading, really. He didn't like the idea of this place calling itself his home. He didn't like that it claimed it would attend to his needs. Signing the plaque with 'love' just tipped the scales and made the Doctor fume a little on the inside - translating to a crinkle between his brows on the outside. He had places he needed to go! He was just about to take Donna to the Crystaline Forest of Majaba after that he knew she'd really enjoy the numbering system at the Library of Port Kane II.

"Here, in general, on the Planet, how many people?" he started thinking that maybe it was just he and Andy. That would be the best situation in terms of getting people off the planet if it were just the two of them.

"And where do I find one of these assistants?"

"Seems?" Andy asked, grinning. "Screw that, it's perfect. I'd never go back home!" he exclaimed.

He walked around the room as the Doctor read the tablet, looking for the Doctor's room key. Had to be here somewhere, he thought, furrowing his brow. "Ah ha," he said to himself with a grin, finding a key glowing slowly brighter and then dimmer on a mantle across the room. Andy went to retrieve it and held it out to the Doctor. "Room key," he announced. "I dunno how many people are here. Lots, I think. I've met a fair few, but seems like every time I get attached to someone, they disappear..." he said with a frown. "Or maybe they just got sent back. Dunno."

After a pause to think, Andy shrugged again, offering the Doctor an apologetic expression. "I'm not sure exactly. They're all over, I know that, but I've never really needed them, except when we were doing the grape stomping or whatever and they were running the instructional DVD," he rambled. "We can go looking...I bet they'll be at the party. I got an invitation and a journal or something this morning. The party is a big group thing, I guess, and everybody's invited. Usually where there's a group thing, there's a Gollem or two," he explained.

Smiling slightly, Andy looked back at the Doctor. "You wanna go to your room, though, first? Get some dry...and warmer clothes?" he said, looking over the Doctor and noting that the man's trousers were wet from the bottom hem up to his shins from walking through the snow. Andy thought maybe he would change, too, actually...who knew if there'd be cute chicks there, after all...

"Sent back?" Well, that's just what he wanted to hear because the Doctor wanted he and his TARDIS and anybody else who wanted to get the heck off the planet off. It didn't seem right that people would be happy in a place that they could never leave from, yet it seemed that Andy was.

The Doctor took the room key as it was offered, scrutinizing it. "Just a normal key..." he muttered, trying to feel just what the metal was, and if it was somehow techy. The Doctor liked Tech - he could manipulate tech.

"Party?" He perked. The planet threw parties? Oh goodness, he was going to need something to keep his head straight around here. He wasn't entirely used to thinking of a planet as a sentient being - but for the moment he had no choice but to go with it.

'Sure, I'll head to my room, why not?" He asked taking a random step and then stopping. "Which way is it now?" You'd think this planet would have provided people a map if it wanted to be so darned clever.

"Maybe," Andy shrugged. "All I know is one day I was hanging out with them and the next, they were nowhere..." He watched with curious amusement as the Doctor examined the key and announced that it was normal. "Well, yeah, what did you expect?" he laughed.

Andy grinned at the way the Doctor seemed to perk up a bit at the mention of the party. "Yeah, see? That's what I'm talkin' about. Booze and chicks. ...or dudes, if you prefer, I guess, but that's not really my thing," he said, trying - and failing - not to wrinkle his nose.

When the Doctor agreed to go to his room and asked which way, Andy furrowed his brow. "Uh, the key says your room number. You're in building A, right?" he asked, muttering as an afterthought, "think that's what I saw..." Letting out a sigh, Andy headed back toward the door. "If you're in A, it's out this way; last building...we'll turn right out of here. So, actually if you're looking at the resident buildings, it's the first...but you follow, right?" he asked, scratching his head idly and nearly losing his hold on Moby Dick as he moved.

The Doctor wondered if Andy's humor was as result of the sheer amount of pot he smoked, or if he was just naturally a happy person. Or, if it was a result of the planet, or maybe... Enough thinking about Andy's happiness, there was business at hand.

To the door and back out into the chilly wind he became acutely aware of the melted snow that had not only made his shoes heavy but his pants from knee to hem soggy as well. Squishy was on the short list of things he'd rather not be.

"Alright, so I'll take a pop into this room of mine," the word room was pregnant of course with thoughts of a prison cell, gruel, and a lack of freedom, "and I'll find you and some golems at this party, right?" He looked around taking in the names of the buildings, A, B, and C. This planet was certainly want for creativity when it came to naming structures, wasn't it?

Andy nodded. "Yeah. I'm in D, so I'm the other way, but I'll meet you at the party for sure and yeah, I'm about ninety-nine percent positive that there'll be golems there," he replied with a smile.

He took a step toward the door and then stopped again, looking up at the Doctor and putting a hand on his shoulder. "I promise, dude...it's really not so bad here. Give it a chance." He smiled again and headed out of the building. "Gimme a shout if you need anything," he added over his shoulder.

Before heading out, Andy would probably change -- scratch that, definitely change -- and write a little blurb about this guy in his new journal. Then...maybe take a hit or two and check out the party scene. If it sucked, he could always go back to the snow fort, anyway...

He must have looked really upset or something if Andy here was making an attempt at consoling him, at least that's what he was fairly certain Andy was trying to do. It wasn't that The Doctor was sad, or really even all that upset - he just didn't care for confinement.

The Doctor shrugged, looking at the row of totally similar buildings before letting go a sigh. "It could be worse, I suppose," he grabbed his screwdriver out of his pocket and aimed it at a nearby screw. Flipping the switch and letting go an odd sort of buzz he watched with satisfaction as the screw came undone from it's placement. "Still works," he smiled.

For the moment the world seemed to brighten a bit.

"See you there, Andy," he said, ducking in behind the door of building A and up the steps to his room.
