Entry tags:blair waldorf, complete, day 17, illyana rasputin

Who: Blair and OTA
Where: Amongst the vines
When: Early Afternoon
What: Having a walk and thinking
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete.

So, she was sharing a room with Chuck. And she was glad that he seemed to be behaving himself these past few days. She had eventually taken pity on him since he didn't get a good night's sleep, and allowed him to share the bed with her as long as he didn't try anything. After a few sexual hints, he had given up, and taken to just lying next to her and sleeping.

She walked among the vines, lost in thought. It was strange, seeing Chuck act like a gentleman. She knew he had it in him, but didn't exactly think he would show her that side of him. And it didn't help her try to fight the sudden urgee to be with him. She wanted to get back home and get back with Nate. That was how her life was supposed to be. With Nate, since she was so young, and until they died. She had always thought her life would run that smoothly, wealth and love. But it seemed that she was stuck here for a while and she would have to deal with that.

However, she refused to spend every waking hour with Chuck. She got away from him occasionally, but that was it. And she couldn't go on having no girlfriends to talk to. She needed girls, they understood how she felt, whereas Chuck would just laugh and tell her she should just get a drink and chill out.

So she set herself that task. She was going to find some girls she could speak too. And find out about what to do about Chuck.

Spending days in her room was driving Illyana mad. She'd tried going out a few days ago, only to be nearly overwhelmed by some evil influence. The demonic side to her rejoiced in the feeling, and wanted to follow the urges, to go seek out whatever was calling it, but Illyana had managed to resist the pull. Mostly by slamming her door shut, locking it, and strengthening the wards on her room with white magic. She'd refused to leave until the impulses had passed.

But three days of self-inflicted prison-time was more than she could bear. She'd been eating, thanks to the Planet's desire to fulfill most of her wishes. She'd wake up to bowls of cereal on her desk, or find sandwiches waiting for her when she came out of her meditative trances. But staring at four walls, no matter how attractive she could make them, was making her feel more of a prisoner than she had in a long time.

So, she decided to risk going outside. Opening her door a crack, she felt the evil aura prickle at her senses. She'd expected it, though, and was now at least prepared for the assault. She'd spent some of her time in exile fashioning an amulet, of sorts, to help protect her against the evil influence's call. She couldn't know how well it would work without testing it, but she thought she'd done the spell correctly. She'd, in essence, bound her demonic side to the amulet. It was only temporary, but it held her darkest impulses at bay, for now, letting her wander outside of her room. The evil made her feel slightly ill, but she pushed past it.

Outside might be better for her than inside, Illyana decided. She stepped outside and blinked at her surroundings. The beach was gone, replaced by fields and forest, and, in the distance, what looked like a vineyard. Well, that was interesting. She headed for the new vineyard, deciding to explore the new scenery. Maybe there'd be wine-tastings. Not that she should have wine at her age, but she'd always wanted to try it. Piotr would have been cross with her if he knew that, but Piotr wasn't here. For a brief moment, she wished that he were. Then, she shook her head, annoyed at her own selfishness. She didn't wish to trap others here, especially not someone as kind and gentle as her older brother.

As she stepped among the vines, marveling at how plump the grapes looked, she noticed a figure ahead of her, wandering as if lost in thought. She couldn't quite make out if it was male or female, but she couldn't feel any overtly evil presence coming from it. That made the person safe to talk to, in Illyana's mind. And she did have a desire to talk with someone. She'd only met two people here since she'd arrived, Clark and the mage Elminster. She needed to meet more of her fellow captives, so that they'd be able to work together and find a way home, at the very least. And, if Illyana admitted it to herself, she was feeling a little lonely. She was used to being around more people back at Xavier's. She missed being able to talk to Dani and Kitty, and even Rahne.

"Hello!" she called. She didn't want to startle the person, whomever it was, so she felt it best to announce her presence.

Blair kept walking, her mind a muddled mess of Chuck and Nate related thoughts. Her feet were beginning to ache, her heels which had been provided when she had woken up weren't the best shoes to wear when walking such a long distance on uneven ground. She was quite glad about the fact this place gave her everything she needed, and the endless supply of dresses kept her happy. And also gave her an excuse to ignore Chuck when she wanted to.

She was dragged from her thoughts when she heard a voice in the distance, and she quickly looked that way. She could see a figure, but from here she couldn't tell who. So she kept walking, waiting to get closer before she would make up her mind on whether she wanted to continue and talk to this stranger or change direction and just ignore her.

When she managed to see this person a little closer, she made her decision to stay. After all, she could do with a female friend here.

"Hi," she responded when they were close enough to each other. "Blair Waldorf."

Illyana watched as the other person, a girl who looked about her age, she was pleased to see, came forward. She looked friendly enough. She dressed a bit more smartly than Illyana did on a regular basis, although the heels seemed really impractical for walking around outside. Illyana herself was wearing basic jeans and a tank top, since the weather was still warmer than she normally liked.

"Illyana Rasputin," she replied, offering her hand and a friendly smile. "Nice to meet you."

She looked around at the vines. "How long has this place been a vineyard?" she asked. "The last time I checked, it was a beach resort." Of course, if Blair was new today, she'd have no idea what Illyana was talking about, but she didn't have a confused look on her face, so Illyana assumed she'd been here for at least a day or two.

Blair glanced down at the girl in front of hers offered hand, and after a moment, shook it. She couldn't push away an offered friend. A girl to talk to.

"Nice to meet you too," she said politely. After all, she at least knew how to be polite. Her mother had always shown her that, that you never know who a new person you meet might be.

"Yeah, I noticed that. I didn't think on asking Chuck about it though. I don't see him being all too nice about it."

Blair took a moment to take the girls clothing in, and momentarily wondered what type of person she had got herself involved with. She didn't seem to be in Blair's normal company. Still, that would give her a project to work on.

Her suspicions had been right. Blair wasn't new today. She'd been here long enough to notice the change of scenery. When Blair let go of her hand, Illyana stuck it, and the free one, in the pockets of her jeans. "Chuck?" she asked, tilting her head to the side just a little.

Chuck was either someone Blair was friends with, or someone she'd recently met. The comment about him not being nice about a conversation made Illyana think he was someone she knew fairly well. "I'm on my own around here. I've met a couple of people, but no one named Chuck." She grinned, thinking back to her first day. "I met a Clark."

A pang of guilt shot through her as she mentioned the young man who'd been so helpful to her. She should look him up, now that she'd gotten more acclimated to the planet and all its weirdness. At least say thank you and prove she wasn't always a demonic basket-case.

"How long have you been here?" Illyana asked, refocusing her attention on Blair. It wouldn't do to alienate a potential friend by dwelling on another one.

"Chuck is my pain in the ass stalker. He seems to show up a lot when I'm there. And we just happen to be sharing a room. He's not done anything which I originally expected him to do, he's been a perfect gentleman since we got here." Blair laughed. "You meet Chuck, run for the hills. He's a bit of a womanizer."

Blair watched Illyana as she appeared to go off in her own thoughts for a moment and found herself also lost in thoughts of Chuck. Thoughts of what had happened the night before. She got dragged from the images by Illyana's question, and she quickly recovered, trying to not make it obvious.

"A few days." Blair frowned, thinking for a moment. "I came here the day before my birthday, I had a party planned. I've missed my birthday."

Stalker? Illyana frowned. "This Planet has a twisted sense of humor to put you with a stalker," she said. "If he starts giving you trouble, let me know. I'll have a chat with him." Granted, Illyana's "chat" would probably be more of a punch, but she'd never been one to tolerate that sort of thing. She smirked when Blair warned her away from Chuck. "He won't like me much, then. I have little patience for those types."

Flirting, Illyana could handle. Goodness knew 'Berto did enough of that at home. But 'Berto wasn't a womanizer. He hated men like that, as did Sam. And Piotr would pound such a man into the ground. That boy Amara liked in the Hellions, he was one that she'd consider a womanizer. No one really knew what Amara saw in him.

"That bites," Illyana said as Blair mentioned missing her birthday. "Happy birthday, for what it's worth." She offered a smile. "I was in the middle of something important when the Planet nabbed me, too. Don't know if it came out okay or not." She scowled, but then pulled herself back away from the darker thoughts. The last thing she needed was to alienate a new potential friend by going demon. Plus, she didn't know if that would sway her toward those darker impulses she could feel around the resort, and she didn't want to have to test her wards that much. "I was going to meet up with my older brother when I'd finished what I was doing. I hadn't seen him in a long time."

"Well, not exactly my stalker. He just likes to annoy me, so turns up wherever I am. It is weird how none of my friends are here other than Chuck. Especially after everything."

She frowned when the thought of what they had done ran through her mind again. She had to stop thinking about him, stop thinking about what she had done with him. As soon as she got back, she was fixing things up with Nate and everything would go back to normal and she could forget her stupid mistake.

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, not getting to see your brother. It must be awful not seeing him."

She knew what it was like not seeing anyone. After all, her father had left.

Ah. Figure of speech. Despite living in the United States for the last several years, Illyana still had trouble with some of them. She knew some of the slang, thanks to Kitty and Dani, but not everything. Apparently, 'stalker' didn't necessarily refer to a bad person? Good thing to note. "It's probably a good thing none of your other friends are here," Illyana said. "Although, I do envy you a bit, having someone you know here. But, you wouldn't want to condemn your other frends to this place. Much as I miss my dear Piotr, I wouldn't want him to be stuck here as well."

She looked off into the distance for a moment before continuing her thoughts. "I do miss Piotr very much. He's the only family I had in the US. My parents live in the Soviet Union, but they sent us to a...private school in New York." That was probably the best way to explain Xavier's school. It was private, after all. Very exclusive. "He and I were going to have a little reunion, once my...tests...were finished."

She grinned, trying hard not to let herself fall into sadness again. "Still, I'm sure I will see him again. We can't stay here forever, right?"

"I can imagine my friends demanding to be let home not long after being brought here. I can, so far, stand it. After all, every need catered for and it is beautiful."

Except Chuck was here. She'd have to deal with that. Unfortunately.

"I hope we're not stuck here. I need to get back home eventually."

She was horrified at the thought that she could be stuck her forever. It was a nice enough place to spend a short period of time, but the rest of her life? She wouldn't be able to stand for it.

"So, think of it like a vacation?" Illyana asked. She hadn't really considered that angle. She'd been so concerned with getting home. And honestly, when was the last time the New Mutants had been able to just relax and have a holiday? She couldn't think of one. "That's a really good attitude to have about this place," she said. Clearly, Blair was a more optimistic person than she was. Then again, she doubted Blair had the same horrors in her past that Illyana did.

She nodded as the other girl said she needed to go home. "We all do," she said. "I'm sure we'll figure out a way to do it, too. But thinking about this place like a little vacation might help make it easier to deal with until we do."

She smiled at Blair, then realized that she hadn't let the other girl do much talking so far. "What's it like where you're from?" she asked.

"Yeah, a bit like a vacation, I guess. Though the way things are here remind me a lot of home."

Blair shrugged, she never had been one for caring about other people's lives unless she could use it for her own means, so she didn't feel like contributing to the fact that everyone wanted to go home. After all,in Blair's way of thinking, nothing was more important than her own situation, but she would barely admit to that thought.

"It's...interesting at times."

Blair couldn't think of a good way to describe the Upper East Side, and she wasn't sure if this girl would know much about it.

Illyana tilted her head to one side. "In what way do they remind you of home?" she asked. Aside from the dorm-like living arrangements, nothing here was like living in Westchester. Except for that low-grade feeling of darkness, which wasn't exactly typical at home, but it served as a reminder that nowhere was a peaceful as it appeared.

"Is your home as beautiful as these surroundings?" Illyana asked, trying to figure out what Blair had meant by her comment. "Where exactly are you from? You sound American." Illyana's own accent was more or less American-sounding, save for a few sounds that lapsed into a more Russian pronunciation. It was far less obvious than Piotr's accent, but it was probably noticeable to someone listening carefully.

Blair shrugged, avoiding her first question. The truth was, she always had whatever she wanted when she wanted it at home, so here wasn't that different.

"I am American. And I guess it's beautiful, at times. I'm from New York."

At the mention of New York, Illyana's eyes lit up. The girl might be from her own world! How many New Yorks could there possibly be, after all? "My school is in New York," she said, eagerness lacing her voice. "About an hour north of the City. Are you in the City, or upstate, or elsewhere in the state?" She grinned. "It is a beautiful place, most of the time. Parts of the City can be rather dirty, but Piotr tells me that's typical of any city."

Knowing Blair's home situation would probably not have bothered Illyana much. She'd find it remarkably similar to 'Berto's, if she knew about it. Although, there were things about 'Berto's attitude as a result of that lifestyle that she found annoying, particularly whereas in her culture one had to work hard for anything one wanted, but the Professor had always stressed tolerance for other points of view and other lifestyles.

"Upper East Side," she told her, more than happy to admit coming from such a wealthy part. The Upper East Side was a wanted area for so many and the fact she was born into living there made her so willing to continue staying. "I wouldn't know about the parts that aren't nice, I never set foot in them. Especially if it's as bad as Brooklyn."

She hated that place, they were beneath her, but luckily she never had to spend much time there.

Illyana grinned. "Upper East Side is so beautiful!" she said. Piotr had taken her all over the city when she'd first arrived in America, so she'd seen almost all of the different neighborhoods. And Dani had insisted they do some fancy window shopping last time they'd been allowed into the city, much to Rahne's displeasure. "Can you see the park from your home?" she asked.

"You're very lucky to not have to visit the nastier sections of the city. I've been once, but I don't know which section it was, and it wasn't by choice." She shuddered, remembering how Arcade had taken her to one of his evil twisted places in a very run down section of New York, way back when she was very young. Only a couple of years ago, for her brother and everyone else who'd helped set her free, but ages ago for Illyana. She didn't like thinking about it.

"We don't get to go into the City very often," she continued, determined to pull the conversation back to something a little happier. "Our headmaster is very strict about outside visits. But the city of Westchester is very pretty. It has one of those "classic American town" main streets, or so I'm told. I haven't seen enough classic towns to really understand it."

Blair nodded in response to her question. Of course she could see the park, she wouldn't expect any less than a home with a good view, inside and out.

"I live in a penthouse, so I can see a lot of the city around me."

Blair smirked at Illyana's obvious distaste of the time she spent in those areas of the city well below the standards of the Upper East Side. She instantly knew she had a potential friend in this girl, one who wouldn't be too hard to train into following her, much like she had done with many other girls before.

"So, boarding school then?"

Penthouse? The girl must have money, like Professor Xavier. Blair's lifestyle was probably quite different to Illyana's, since Illyana's family didn't come from money. At heart, she was a farmer's daughter. But she couldn't fault Blair for her circumstances. She was just lucky enough to not have to want for things. Like 'Berto. And really, Illyana was privileged herself, since she did get to study in the United States, and have a very formal education, unlike many of the children in her village in Siberia.

"Boarding school," Illyana said, nodding. "I like it. There aren't that many students, so we get lots of specialized attention. The uniforms could be better, though." She made a face thinking about the yellow and blue X-Men standard uniforms. True, they were invaluable in battle, but they were too easy to spot by villains. Bright yellow chests and torsos practically screamed "aim here".

She decided to censor some of her experiences until she got to know Blair a little better. She had no idea how her potential friend would react to things like mutants and sorceresses and such, and she didn't want to alienate the few people who were nice to her so far. "Maybe you've heard of my school? Xavier's?" Blair's reaction might give her a clue as to how to approach the topic later.

"I go to...well, I guess you could say a private school. Unfortunately, not so private that it excludes some people if they are determined to pay the amount to go. It's quite respected. I'm planning on going to Yale after senior year though."

She had always been proud of that, the fact that she more than likely would be going to Yale. It had been her dream since she was a little girl and she wasn't willing to think on the possibility that she wouldn't get in.

"No I haven't heard of that school."

Which was odd. Blair knew of most schools. So it was either made up or a school which didn't make the headlines often.

"Yale?" Illyana echoed. "That's excellent! I still haven't decided where I want to go to university, but I have a little time left to figure it out." This of course assumed that she'd be able to attend university. Not many of the Professor's students managed to get in full college careers while still actively X-Men. Jean Grey had gone inactive in order to get her college degree, according to Piotr. Being an X-Man was, for most of them, more important than continuing their studies. Illyana was no exception, at the moment.

"We're rather small," Illyana said when Blair expressed her ignorance of Xavier's. "And secluded. I don't think Professor Xavier likes publicity." She wasn't surprised that Blair hadn't heard of them. The whole point was to keep its nature secret, after all. "At least the two of us aren't trapped in the public school system with thirty students in a classroom." She'd heard about the New York public schools from some of the local kids in Westchester, whose friends or family members attended school in the city. Illyana would never have done well in a place like that.

Blair scrunched her nose up at the thought of being in a crowded public school. She liked her school, and found it much easier to control other people. Plus, she liked the equal attention from her teachers.

"Yes, I don't believe I could last long there. I like the opportunity to have my teacher focus on my studies for a while."

Of course, Blair worked hard, and often did not need help. She was smart, after all. But she liked having someone fuss over her.

Illyana couldn't agree more. "Having one-on-one time with your teachers is something more students would really benefit from," she said. "I'm glad we're both fortunate enough to have it." Granted, the Professor's time was divided between them and his X-Men, but at least they did get face time with him pretty regularly. Magneto had been more attentive to them, but Illyana didn't hold it against the Professor that he couldn't. Much.

"So, what sorts of things have you found around here that help keep you busy?" she asked, slightly uncomfortable now that the conversation seemed to have dwindled down a little. "I noticed a pool when I first arrived, but I haven't been to check it out yet."

"I haven't really seen much since I've been here. I've not been here long, so it's a bit difficult to see everything. I really should find out some things, however. Have a proper look around. What about you?"

Blair liked this. She seemed like a girl who would easily fall into following Blair. But first, she had to ensure she had her. Make sure that there was at least a small friendship between them. Enough of a friendship for her to work her magic.

"Same here," Illyana said. She glanced down at the ground as her hand brushed against the amulet tucked into the pocket of her jeans. She could feel its magic weakening a little, but not enough yet that it was a bother to her. The evil aura wasn't as strong outside in the vineyard, so as long as they didn't end up wandering anywhere with too strong a feel of evil, she should be okay, at least for a little longer. She'd have to get back to her room soon, though. She looked back up at Blair. "I really haven't explored too much. Found the library, found the cafeteria, found the pool, but not really much else. The beach didn't particularly interest me. I prefer colder climates."

Blair listened to the various places Illyana had found, knowing it would be useful. She frowned when she mentioned her preference to colder climates. She loved the beach, all though she was fond of snow.

"I've always loved going to the beach. Especially in the Hamptons."

She usually spent part of her summer in the Hamptons, it was one of the places to be seen within the elite.

Illyana shrugged. The beach was interesting, since she could swim, but she never felt comfortable in the temperatures others liked having in order to venture out into the waves. She'd heard of the Hamptons somewhere. It sounded expensive - perhaps Archangel had mentioned it. She had a feeling it would be a bad idea to admit ignorance of the place, though.

"We have summer term at school, and our headmaster doesn't often let us have time at the beach," she said. It wasn't quite a lie. "I've spent some of my holiday time in Scotland, with family friends. Not exactly the Hamptons, but it's been very relaxing." Moira MacTaggert's little island wasn't what most considered hospitable land, but it felt comfortable to Illyana. And Dr. MacTaggert herself had been nothing but kind. "I've always preferred snow to sand, though," she said.
