Katara of the Southern Water Tribe ([info]k_waterbender) wrote in [info]mirage_rpg,
At Jun’s exuberant display of joy for Giselle, Katara jumped out of her seat to be ready to help if Giselle didn’t make such an easy fall after she finished soaring up into the air. It was proven unnecessary as Jun caught her with the same swift ease as he had thrown the woman. Giselle also seemed unperturbed, keeping an ever-present positive demeanor in light of a possible fear of falling to one’s death. She must really trust him… Katara thought.

As Katara listened to everyone talk about where they were from, she almost felt left out in that area. Everyone knew where everyone else was from- with the exception of the Andalasia Giselle was from- while she had never heard of those places, and no one else seemed to have heard of her home. She couldn’t allow it to bring her down, though. It only meant that she had as much to learn from them as they did from her, and Jun’s words proved it. She felt a small surge of joy mingling with pride at the thought that she may very well be the only Waterbender- or even the only Bender, period- in the Mirage. “I would love to learn all about your world, too, Jun. I’ve never heard of any of the places any of you are from! I bet they’re all fantastic.”

At Tyler’s dubious repetition of what Katara said she only smiled. “Yes. The Southern Water Tribe is one of the three Water Nation locations. It’s in the South Pole.”

Though she was delighted with everyone there and had no reason not to trust them a surge of relief went through her when Jun merely gave her a congratulatory pat on the shoulder. “Thanks, Jun.” It wasn’t that she was afraid of heights- after all she had gotten quite used to riding through the sky on Appa’s back over the years; she was simply anxious about not being caught and going splat onto the floor- or even going splat on the ceiling if she were thrown too high. Jun’s physical strength amazed her. She knew it would be in her best interest never to get on his bad side.

Katara cheered softly for Tyler as he took his turn. He took out all ten pins again, though in two tries this time. That was still fantastic, and better than any of the others so far. Then Jun was up and took his best try yet. “Great job, Jun! You’re doing really well!” Then Christian knocked down seven pins, and she clapped cheerily.

It made her happy to see how joyful everyone else was, even dispelling the majority of her own self-pity. Maybe the Planet knew what it was doing by forcing others to go through these mandatory events? After all, if they weren’t doing this they may very well be moping around their rooms the whole time. Or finding ways out of this place… The Waterbender thought sardonically.

Katara listened as each person divulged their jobs in their own worlds. “A writer, Christian? I bet you’re better than you think.” She had never known many writers. Giselle divulged that she was a cleaner and a singer- two seemingly unconnected jobs. “I’m a Waterbender and a healer. I also helped the Avatar protect people, and I helped those people recover their lives and villages after the war that happened in my world.”

The young woman grinned as the flame-haired woman took her turn, knocking over seven pins, and clapped merrily. Seven was less than before, but so what? They were all beginners with the exception of Tyler. Seven was still the majority of the pins. “Awesome, Giselle!”

Then Katara was up again. Everything was moving as such a swift pace. It was quite fun. Lifting her ball she lined it up with the pins and rolled it along the lane. To her complete shock- and utter delight- it smashed through the center pin and those behind it, sending many flying away from the ball to slam into other pins, leaving one standing tall on the right. It could most likely be attributed to her improved mood. When the ball returned to her, she happily aimed the weighted sphere at the remaining pin and threw it. She realized her aim had been true, and she jumped up and down gleefully as she knocked the pin over.

“Did you guys see that!” She exclaimed with shocked joy. She had definitely improved her mood with that. Her pride seemed to be bursting.
