Who: Haruka, Michiru and OTA
What: Michiru drags Haruka out of bed and down to the beach for a swim
When: Dawn
Where: Their room, then the beach
Rating: PG-13 just to be safe
Status: Complete

The first thing Michiru noticed when she woke up was that the hurricane was gone. The winds were no longer whipping alongside the building and the rolling feeling in her core that reflected the sea's turmoil was gone. She stretched languidly, indulging in the quiet. It was still early by the clock, and she bet the sun wasn't up yet. Ah, to watch the sunrise over the ocean... It had always been one of her favorite things to do back home, and she had little doubt the sunrise would be just as beautiful here.

She slipped out of bed, being careful not to disturb Haruka, and quietly opened her closet. A few minutes of rummaging through the clothes turned up one of her favorite beach swimsuits. She brought it into the bathroom with her and quickly went about her morning ablutions, sans the makeup. No sense in putting on much if she was just going to get it washed off by the waves.

"Planet, two beach towels, a blanket, and sunscreen please" she said, closing her eyes for a moment. "And a bag to carry them in" Sure enough, when she opened her eyes and turned around, the requested items were stacked neatly on the edge of the bathtub. She changed into the swimsuit, packed the bag and went back out into the bedroom. She dropped the bag at the foot of the bed and reached over to gently shake Haruka awake.

"Haruka, Haruka dear..."

"Because if we go after the sun has risen, we don't get to watch the sun rise" Michiru said in her most patient tone. It was an old conversation, but one she enjoyed having. After all, she'd get her way in the end.

"Get up" she said, again, this time with a little more force behind her words.

And there it was, the slightly more demanding tone. It meant Michiru wouldn't tolerate much more resistance to her idea. With a sigh that turned into another yawn, Haruka pulled the bathing suit underneath the covers. She slid out of her pajama pants and pulled the bathing suit on, still laying down. She'd be able to sort-of doze if she did this, and she wouldn't have to leave the comfort of the blankets just yet. She yanked the top of her pajamas over her head, getting a little tangled in the arms as she did so, then reached down to pull the bathing suit the rest of the way up.

Haruka opened both eyes and blinked several times. She reached up to wipe the sleep from them, then rolled over to look at Michiru. "We could always wait until evening and go out to watch the sun set," she pointed out. She far preferred sunsets to sunrises. It was just her luck her lover was the opposite.

Knowing that response would prompt another stern remark if she didn't move, Haruka flung the covers back and pushed herself up into a sitting position. "I'm up," she said. "Just let me get a comb for my hair." It tended to get very mussed when she slept, and stuck up at odd angles all over her head. Hotaru had said once that her Haruka-papa "looked like Sonic the Hedgehog" in the morning.

Michiru had anticipated the request and handed over the comb she'd picked up. She gave Haruka a too-sweet smile and picked up the bag.

"The sea faces east. I wish to watch the sun rise over the ocean, not set over this resort"

Haruka took the comb and ran it through her short hair. She wasn't entirely sure she could get it looking at all decent, but if they were going to the seashore, as Michiru intended, she could duck under the waves and flatten it with the salt water. It wasn't the best for her hair, but it would look better slicked back wet than it did right now.

"Fine, fine," she said, grumbling as she clambered across the bed and swung her legs over the edge. She stumbled over to her closet and fished around for a pair of sandals and a cover-all. "We'll go and watch the sunrise." She slid into her sandals and pulled the long-sleeved white linen shirt she'd found over her bare arms. Maybe later they could go exploring more. The map she'd noticed the other day had displayed a little garage. Maybe there were cars or bikes she could take driving around, get the lay of the land better now that the storm had passed. She still wasn't entirely sure how large this place was.

Satisfied that she'd gotten her way, Michiru gave a more genuine smile and nodded. She slipped into her sandals and opened the door. It was still quiet in the dorm as they walked out. Most people were probably still sleeping, but that didn't bother Michiru.

It didn't take long to walk out and down to the beach. She'd been right, the sky was just lightening with the soft gray of predawn.

"I'm going to duck into the water for a bit" she said, as she spread out the blanket. "Join me?"

Haruka followed along, blinking in the harsh light in the hallway. She reached out and grasped Michiru's hand as they walked down to the beach. The weather outside was warm, but not too warm. It was far nicer than it had been two days earlier, when she'd found herself on the beach in the middle of the storm.

"Why not?" Haruka said. She leant forward and pecked Michiru on the cheek. "I'll race you!" she cried as she dashed for the water. Even this little bit of running made her feel good, more alive, more awake.

Michiru didn't even try to catch up to Haruka as the other girl went sprinting down the beach. Still she did run till she hit the water, laughing in delight as the waves flowed around her ankles. This was her true home, the water washing over her. She waded deeper in until she could start swimming. She swam out for a bit before doubling back and tugging at Haruka's hand.

"Now I'll race you" she said, flicking a bit of sea water at her.

Haruka hit the water at full speed and dove forward, letting herself get washed into the sea. She wasn't as at home in the water as Michiru, but she enjoyed swimming for fun. And it had been a while since she'd been able to go near the sea or a swimming pool. She'd made Setsuna take Hotaru when their adopted daughter wanted to go last week.

She watched Michiru shoot past her and deeper into the waves, smiling warmly. She loved watching Michiru swim. It was so natural for the other woman, and she did it with such skill and grace. Haruka moved back toward the shore, but stopped when she felt Michiru pull at her hand.

She turned and crossed her arms, standing upright in the shifting sands. "That's not fair, and you know it," she said, smirking.

"And racing to the water was?" Michiru asked, still treading water. No, it wasn't fair, but that was the fun of it. She returned the smirk and pulled at Haruka's hand again.

"Just swim with me" she said, her expression softening "I'll even slow down, just for you"

No, it hadn't been, but that was part of the game. She slid back into the water, swimming around behind Michiru and wrapping her arms around the other woman. "You'll slow down, just for me?" she echoed. "How thoughtful." There was only a slight hint of sarcasm in her voice.

"Maa, Haruka" Michiru said, twisting away. "That makes it hard to swim" She kicked out into the water, swimming at a lazy pace as the sky lightened more and the first colors of sunrise began to appear on the horizon. She let the waves carry her out further without having to exert much.

"Aren't you glad I dragged you out here?" she asked, treading water again.

She let the senshi of water slide from her grasp, for now. What fun was the beach if you couldn't indulge in your romantic side? And, now that she was awake, she had to admit that a sunrise was not only beautiful, but romantic. She followed Michiru through the water, glad that she had decided on a leisurely pace rather than a more competitive one.

"I suppose," Haruka replied. She twisted around in the water until she was floating on her back. "It is very relaxing."

"It's home" Michiru said, as she started swimming lazy circles around Haruka. It was true, she was more at home in the sea than anywhere else. The motion of the waves, the smell of the salt air, all of it soothed her in ways she couldn't describe.

With a mischevious smirk she dove under the water and came up, directly under Haruka, upsetting the other girl's balance, dunking her into the water.

She let the other girl right herself before asking "Back to the beach to watch the sun rise?"

"For you," Haruka said, letting her eyes slide closed. Haruka felt far more at home in the open air, speeding down the road in an open-top car, or on a bike, or just running as fast as she could. Racing the wind. The feel of the breeze against her skin, the adrenaline rush from flying past other people and objects, that was home. She was caught up in her own revelry and didn't notice Michiru slip below the waves until she felt hands against her back, thrusting her up and over. She barely had time to swallow a breath before she found herself below the water.

She broke the surface and took in a huge breath, but ended up coughing and sputtering as she realized she'd swallowed some of the seawater, despite her best efforts not to. "Michiru!" she cried.

At Michiru's question, Haruka sighed. "I think it'll be safer on the beach," she muttered. With a fierce kick, she started back toward the shore. Michiru would overtake her in a few strokes, she knew, but getting a head start wouldn't hurt. At least on shore, she could dry off and perhaps relax a little more, maybe grab one more nap before she had to be up for good.

Michiru let Haruka get a good head start before pushing through the water after her. It didn't take long for her pull ahead, and she swam strongly back towards the shore. All too soon her hands began scraping the sand, and she stood up reluctantly. She let Haruka catch up to her, and caught the other girl's hand as they walked back onto the sand.

She lay down on the blanket, propping herself up on her elbows. The sky had manifested the usual rainbow of dawn colors, and Michiru let out a small sigh of contentment. "I wish every morning could start like this."

As she'd predicted, Michiru's natural affinity with the sea let her overtake Haruka within moments. She didn't even try to keep up as the other woman pulled ahead. She kept her pace even, and ended up reaching the shore a few moments after Michiru. She took Michiru's hand happily as they made their way to the blanket.

Instead of plopping down right away, Haruka grabbed a towel and began drying herself off. Not that she'd be able to dry off completely, but she didn't want to feel like a drowned rat on the shore. She bundled the towel up and set it at the top of the blanket, then lay down, using it as a pillow. She looked up at Michiru, who was smiling at the sunrise. "Every morning?" she asked, keeping her tone light. As nice as it was, she had to admit, she had no intentions of getting up this early every morning. A couple of times a week, perhaps, but not every day.

Michiru had a good idea how little Haruka would like getting up this early every day, but it was so fun to tease.

"Why not? It's peaceful right now" There was no sound except for the wind and waves. She glanced over at Haruka and relented slightly. "Well, perhaps I won't drag you out _every_ morning"

Haruka did have to admit that it was peaceful. She could feel the breeze against her skin, cool, but not cold. And the sound of the waves gently lapping against the shore was soothing, calming. It would be so easy to fall asleep out here on the beach.

"I'll just have to make sure you have a good reason to want to sleep late," Haruka said, smirking up at Michiru. "Then you won't want to drag me out here every morning."

"Maa?" Michiru said, with a knowing smirk. "You think you could do that every day?" She sat up and began toweling off her hair. She didn't want the salt water to dry and cake up. She rummaged through the bag and pulled out the sunscreen.

"Here, sun's coming. You don't want to burn"

"I didn't say every day," Haruka replied, the teasing clear in her voice. "But any night when I don't want to get up early the next morning."

She took the bottle of sunscreen from Michiru and poured a little onto her open palm, spreading it across her arm before rubbing it in carefully. She had a tendency to burn rather than tan, and even if there weren't any inner senshi around to tease her about it, she didn't want to end up a lobster. She did her other arm, then sat up and leant forward to work on her legs. Then, she turned to Michiru and offered her the bottle. "Would you get my back?" she asked.

"Which, knowing you, means every night" Michiru said with a laugh.

She took the bottle gladly and began spreading the cool liquid onto the blond's back, working in a little gentle massage with the application. She finished and handed the bottle back.

"Mine as well?" she asked. She'd had far too many experiences where she'd forgotten to sunscreen her back, and burned badly. While she could tan, and did occasionally, she usually preferred to maintain a paler complexion.

"What do you take me for, a hedonist?" Haruka asked, raising an eyebrow. She turned over to give Michiru access to her bare back. She smiled at the light massage her lover had decided to grace her with as well. It was very relaxing, and Haruka could feel herself starting to doze.

She stirred at Michiru's request for equal treatment. She rolled over and into a sitting position and took the bottle from Michiru, pouring more of the liquid onto her hand and reaching down to spread it across Michiru's back. "Besides, it's not like you complain," she continued, massaging the sunscreen in thoroughly. When she'd finished, she took a little more for herself and applied it to her neck and face. The last thing she needed was to have a permanent blush from sunburn.

"You're not?" Michiru asked with a small smile of satisfaction. She revelled in the feeling of Haruka's hands spreading the sunscreen across her bare skin. "Perhaps it's I who is the hedonist" she said, retrieving the bottle and applying the sunscreen to the rest of her body.

She lay back again, letting herself drift. It would be so easy to slip into a light doze here. Instead she stood up, stretching slowly. "I'm going to wade a bit" she said, looking down at Haruka. "You can stay here if you want"

Haruka only shook her head, smiling faintly in amusement, at Michiru's remark. No, she wasn't, and Michiru knew it. She passed the bottle back, then settled back down onto the blanket, secure in the knowledge that she wouldn't end up scarlet.

She had nearly fallen back to sleep when Michiru's voice startled her back into alertness. "Hmmm?" she asked, opening her eyes. "I think I will, if that's all right. Enjoy the water."

As Michiru headed back down the shore, Haruka stretched and settled herself back onto the blanket. It was warm enough out that she didn't feel she needed to steal Michiru's towel to act as a blanket, and she was sure it would only get warmer as the sun rose higher in the sky. She closed her eyes and let her thoughts drift away, dozing again.
