Day Twelve - Take Two!
Who: Tonks, Jigen and Marcus (Posting order, if that's okay, guys?)
What: After meeting with Snape, Tonks continues off to find Marcus, but once more bumps into someone she didn't really expect to. This time, she brings him along.
When: Early afternoon
Where: Close to the games room
Rating: I would guess PG? I will change as needed.
Status: Complete

Well, as far as odd experiences she'd had on Mirage, that had to be just about the weirdest. Seeing Ginny and the Twins had been great, but seeing Snape... it had been a little awkward. All in all, she was more than happy to break away from him and leave, shaking her head slightly as she tripped down the hallway.

She'd always been sort of iffy about the Potions Master. She didn't, of course, know the full story about him, but enough to make her curious. She couldn't quite tell why he was on their side, though. And she was still slightly scared of him from her school days. She wondered as she scurried away if she'd ever really get over that fear of him, if any of his students ever would.

This time, she made it further before bumping into someone she hadn't really expected to. This time, at least, she had known previously was on Mirage. She waved in greeting as she saw the Asian looking man walking down the hallway towards her. It was not a struggle for her to remember who he was. She was good with names and faces, had to be, in her profession.

"Wotcher, Jigen!"

She watched as the two men shook hands, and nodded thoughtfully. She and Marcus had spent a lot of time just wandering around, doing random stuff and hoping that something worked. That approach was just not going to work. Maybe, having Jigen here would help them focus a bit more.

"Yeah... Jigen, Marcus, we should all talk things out, having a brainstorming session! I bet with three of us thinking of ideas, we can get away from here in no time!"

She was still smiling as Marcus stood by her side, and her cheeks were flushed with excitement as she looked from Jigen to Marcus and back again.

Jigen raised his eyebrows at the two as he tucked his hands back into his pockets, wondering if he should butt into their business at all. Then again, hanging with Lupin for years and years had taught him to turn away just at the right times to give his friend and his girlfriend of the moment some privacy. And of course so that Jigen himself did not need to watch the awkward flirting nor the messy smooching. So, as an experienced avoider and ignorer of things he did not want to see and moments when he was a third wheel, he decided to go along with this for now. Maybe they would actually get something done.

"Alright," he said, his voice low and style of speaking as grunting and curt as ever, "then we should find a better place to discuss. The café?"

Marcus smiled and nodded at Jigen's suggestion. Despite the man's somewhat inexpressive nature, Marcus wanted to show him that he was willing to accept him as an ally and a friend.

"That's a great idea, Jigen. Perhaps others will overhear our conversation and join in! Either way, we'll have an opportunity to be well-nourished for whatever task we decide to undertake."

He smiled again and winked at both of them. He still remembered the great brainstorming session he had had with the Doctor and the cafeteria-worker, Jun. He felt great optimism about today.

Despite it all, Tonks rather liked Jigen. Sure, he wasn't the most friendly person she'd ever met, but still, she liked him. Of course, there were few people she really didn't like. But Jigen had been the one who'd gotten her started thinking about other ways to leave the planet, rather than just exploring and hoping something happened.

"Yeah! I'm starving, actually, I like this idea of food. Let's go!"

She smiled brightly at the two men and turned around. She promptly tripped over nothing, recovered, and set off for the cafe. She'd been here awhile now, and knew her way around fairly well.

Jigen smiled widely at Tonks' stumbling - not viciously, but in his own amused kind of way. She was a cute little thing, the witch, and it was entertaining to just watch and listen her babble and stumble around.

He followed her and Marcus, walking in no hurry after them without saying anything more until they reached the cafeteria. He studied the man as well since he knew practically nothing about him. Judging by his outfit, he certainly was not from the same universe as he was. From his demeanor he figured he matched Tonks in optimism and, as bad as the word sounded, naivistic nature at least compared to Jigen himself. But something about Marcus did not fit the picture of a happy go lucky man. It was his stance - the way he moved and stood. He was trained, possibly in martial arts.

It was not in Jigen's nature to be curious about people, but he felt he needed to know more about the man. Where was he from, what could he do, would he be a threat of some kind? Jigen felt confident, though, feeling the weight of his revolver against his back hidden under his black jacket.

Marcus strolled happily along with Tonks, not minding that Jigen was staying behind them. He was curious as to Jigen's talents and capabilities, but he figured he was probably alright, given that Tonks had already okayed him. Still, she couldn't really know him that well yet either, so it was probably worthwhile keeping an eye on him.

When they got to the dining hall, Marcus helped ensure they sat at a table with more than three chairs, near the centre of the room. He wasn't counting on it, but he hoped more prisoners would join their discussion group. Sitting down, he ordered crudités and dip, and got down to business.

"So, if we're going to be focused and organized about getting out of here, let's start at the beginning. What do we know?"

With an intense eagerness, he looked at his two companions.

The pink-haired witch settled down at the table and brightened up when food was placed on the table. She smiled at the golem who brought it, no longer even caring that the expressionless things never spoke, or smiled back.

"Thanks!"

She reached immediately for the food, popping it into her mouth with a sigh of satisfaction. Everything here tasted really amazing, it was incredible. Soon, though, she turned her attention back to the two men.

"Alright, let's see. We know that the Planet likes to kidnap people from all over, right? Not just from Earth." She stopped to think, while popping more appetizers into her mouth.

Jigen sat down and leaned back, not making a move to touch the servings. He watched and listened to the two others in silence and eventually reached for the neighboring table for an ashtray. He dumped his cigarette on it and moved it to their table before opening his mouth - he really did take his time.

"From what we know," he began sounding stern, "the only ones who were here before any of the kidnapped, are the golems. We also know - correct me if I'm wrong - that our surroundings change. What we don't know is how the golems are linked to the planet, who or what controls this place and how, is there something that remained the same from before the change, is there a control center, is there something else on the planet than this resort, where does this place get its power and how exactly does it bring people here? Teleport, time machine, energy beam?"

He spoke with a very controlled tone now voicing some of the many questions he had thought up in his few days in the Mirage. Organizing heists took a lot of systematic tactical thinking, and he along with Lupin he had become quite good at planning them. Those skills were turning out to be useful otherwise as well.

"We need to systematically go through the Resort and search for... anything. Hidden rooms, pathways, consoles, messages, anything. We also need to find out more about those golems. What are they, why are they here, whom do they serve, where do they get their commands from."

Marcus nodded as he nibbled on a carrot stick. He liked the way this was going. Jigen was proving his worth already. The man was a good thinker. He was really on to something.

"Yes, Tonks, and from different times, too. Jigen, I think you're definitely on to something. What we've got here are two different questions. One is 'where are we?'. The fact that the Planet takes people from all times and worlds means we don't know what time we are in or where in the universe we are. But the other question is 'how does it work?'. Jigen, I think you're right that that question may be easier to answer at the moment, and I think you're also right to see that the golems may be key. Systematically going through the resort is a good idea, and it shouldn't be that difficult, but it may be that the best thing we could do is capture a golem and see what makes it tick."

Excited by their conversation, Marcus began speaking animatedly and at length. Honestly, this was the most hope he had had about their situation in days. Bringing in a third perspective had been a great idea. Jigen was already seeing things that he and Tonks had missed.

She nodded, postively radiating excitement and happiness. At last, they were really getting somewhere! Randomly searching hadn't done a whole hell of a lot, so this was a really good change. She was very optimistic about this.

"Yeah, I can help with a golem with my magic, maybe hold it in place or something... I was also thinking, I need to find a broom and fly up to the sky, see if there's anything blocking the way up there."

She frowned thoughtfully before continuing on.

"I think one thing we should consider is the desert. The Planet might not be hiding everything on the resort itself. It has the big desert because it wants to keep us here, don't you think?"

She looked back and forth between the two men. Snape was wrong, she thought firmly to herself. They were going to find a way off this planet. Maybe if he apologized to her for doubting, then she'd even bring him back. Maybe.

The man nodded agreeing with what both of them had said, and motioned at Marcus.

"My thoughts exactly. We need to capture a golem and..." he paused before he said the rather grim words, "find out what they're made of."

He took a pack of Pall Malls out of his breast pocket, shook out one and set it on his lips. "There's a garage, I think, somewhere. We'll have to see if we find any kinds of vehicles around. It would be rather hopeless trying to move around in the desert without one, unless of course Tonks..." he pointed at her, then paused and brushed his bearded jawline with the still unlit cigarette between his teeth. "Finds a broom. So witches really use brooms?"

Now there were two fabulous ideas floating around, and Marcus's mind was having a difficult time trying to decide which direction to spin first. Really, they both had strengths and weaknesses. Driving around the desert in a motor vehicle sounded like an expanded version of the random exploring he and Tonks had already been doing, while the thought of vivisecting a golem made him a little uncomfortable.

"Okay, so we've got two plans on the go here, yes? Plan one is to capture a golem, and plan two is to explore the desert. Let's look at them one at a time.

"Capturing a golem is, I think, a great idea, because it's acheivable, and we don't have to go out of our way to find one, but I think we have to be really careful once we have one captured. What if it's truly alive? I won't be part of a needless death of an innocent creature, even if it doesn't anger the Planet.

"Secondly, I have the suspicion that there are better ways to explore the desert than a fancy car or a broom. No offense, Tonks. What we really need to find out is if there are any supersonic aircraft around, or if there is anyone here capable of teleportation over long distances. Does anyone know if the Doctor got his TARDIS working?"

He paused his rapid stream of verbalized thought suddenly and looked at Tonks.

"Didn't you say you can teleport?"

She listened raptly as the men spoke, nodding. Her brain, which was actually very intelligent despite her clumsiness and exuberance, was moving a mile a minute as she turned these various ideas around in her head.

"If only the golems could speak... I know how to make a potion that makes people speak the truth no matter how much they'd like to hide it."

The witch smiled brightly at the Asian man and nodded enthusiastically.

"Both witches and wizards use brooms, of course... I really think that I ought to just nip out, find a broom, and fly up. I could use the bubblehead charm, which would keep me safe for a little while, at least, no matter what sort of air is up there."

She turned to Marcus, and was about to speak when a golem came over. She, trying not to look suspicious, waved the thing over and ordered pumpkin juice all around. Belatedly, as the creature stumped off, she hoped that the two men even liked pumpkin juice.

"Yeah, I can teleport. Or, rather, I can Apparate, which is what we call it. But it's dangerous if I can't see where I'm going."

At Marcus' thoughts on the golems and the risks involving, Jigen shook his head.

"We need to be cautious, naturally, be we are being held captive. We have the right to demand answers and to find a way out of here - this is not right," he said emphasizing tapping the table with his hand to emphasize the last words. "Hopefully we'll gain more knowledge without force, but if it comes to it..." he looked at them darkly from under the brim of his hat, "I will not hesitate."

After a pause he continued talking mostly to Tonks. "If this really is some other planet than Earth, it would be good to know if we can get out of here on a..." he waved his hand, "I don't know. A space shuttle. Whatever. I bet there's people here from the future who know about space traveling," he shrugged having no idea about Marcus' origins.

Marcus nodded and looked around the table. It was always interesting speaking to people from worlds with different technology levels, not to mention different levels of scientific understanding.

"Well, leaving the golem issue aside for the moment, let's stick with the exploring the desert by flight option. Tonks, even though you can take air with you, it wouldn't work to fly into space on a broom. The higher you got, the colder it would get, until you froze to death. Jigen is right. What we need is a shuttle capable of space-flight, or something bigger than a shuttle.

Here's what I think we should try. This planet wants us to be happy, right? And it wants to give us things we want, right? Well, maybe if we asked nicely it would give us a space-craft! Or, if not, maybe a planet-bound aircraft. Either way, I think we should try that before we catch a golem."

Marcus agreed with Jigen that being kept on Mirage against their will was not right, but the other man's willingness to use what was likely unnecessary force made the Ranger uncomfortable.

Shame about Tonks's apparation limitation, too.

She frowned thoughtfully. Being an Auror, she'd done some things that most wouldn't have to do, and was more comfortable than Marcus with what Jigen was talking about it. Not entirely comfortable, of course, but she admitted the necessity.

"I just ran into someone from my own world, and Marcus, I'm sorry, but I will get off this planet just to show him that I can. If that means taking apart of golem, well... I have spells that can make it not hurt for it. But I will get home."

She stopped talking once more as the golem brought their pumpkin juice's over. With a pleased expression on her face, she picked the glass up and took a deep drink.

"Try it, please, it's good. Anyway, Marcus, I'm not saying I would fly up into space. I remember what you told me about all that, but I do want to see if it's even an option for getting out."
