Day 10: Enter Sandyman
Who: Dean Winchester & Sam Anders
When: About 4pm
What: Unceremonious Entry
Where: Somewhere sandy
Rating: PG-13ish
Status: Complete

The light was creeping shyly over the windowsill, little by little. Dean sat facing the approaching dawn, eyes blank and unfocused, a bottle in one hand resting on the edge of the nightstand. The golden liquid was beginning to catch the sunlight as it ventured further upward. If one had come upon him sitting frozen in thought, one might have thought he had fallen asleep sitting up, eyes open. Stranger things had happened in this world and he knew that. But sleep had not touched him all night long. Even the pint of José Cuervo he’d ingested had done nothing to drown him onto the dreamless sleep he’d wanted.

It had been a week since she had crushed him. For all his clever thinking and sincere desire not to lie to her, he had not been able to convince her he was serious. It surprised him still how easily she had eviscerated him. He knew he had been in love with her. She was the only girl for whom he had ever seriously considered leaving the hunting behind and settling down to their allotted 2.5 kids and white picket fence.

Now he was nowhere and he was actually fine with that. If only he could numb the dull ache he was trying to pretend didn’t exist. And he would’ve been successful at ignoring it if it weren’t for the fact there was nothing to do at the moment. There were no leads on the voodoo priestess he was tracking. If he was honest, there might have been leads but he had probably missed them. He was getting morose and this deep introspection was giving him a headache.

The bottle of liquor slid from his fingers, falling across the nightstand and startling him to attention. Immediately, instinctively, Dean was in a defensive stance, fists raised, his weight forward on the balls of his feet. His body had reacted faster than his mind and in the next second when his mind had caught up, he relaxed and rubbed his eyes. Shaking his head, shoulders slumped forward he growled at himself, "You're losing it, dude. Get a grip."

Unknotting the towel from around his waist, he cleaned up the liquor on the nightstand and picked up the bottle. With a firm resolve he pushed the lingering chick-flick broken-heartedness from his mind and, standing naked in front of the window, toasted the sun with a long swallow from the bottle. "Time to move."

And indeed he did move. Though not in any direction he was truly figuring on going. It felt more like his navel had been sucked inward and he'd turned several somersaults through whipped cream or perhaps stardust? The last thought on his mind was to grab at the pair of jeans on the side of the bed.

Which turned out to be a very excellent idea, all things considered. Planted face down in the sand, Dean turned his head to the side and coughed, sputtering as water flew into his nostrils and mouth. He couldn't open his eyes as sand pelted him in a whirlwind-like fashion convincing him once and for all he had found a portal to hell inside a hotel room. Dad had been on to something making him and Sam stay in them by themselves when they were young. He'd been avoiding being sucked into one himself in the middle of the night. And no hell would take children, would it?

Releasing the bottle of Cuervo and his jeans, he wiped his eyes and sat up, feeling the harsh sand on his bare buttocks and cussing under his breath. Since when did hell have sand? Carefully opening his eyes beneath the shield of his hand, Dean took a look around. No. Definitely not hell. But it was damn well hellish. Not to mention creepy as all get out that he was here now when moments ago he'd been in the hotel room.

"Oh wait," Dean groaned. "I must've had more than I thought. I'm never drinking again... well not this much at least."

Reaching for his pants, he attempted a one-legged shuffle to shimmy into them before anyone found him naked in the middle of a hurricane. That would be one story he'd rather keep for himself and not savor for posterior - er posterity.

Tottering slightly, but generally feeling better for the movement as it had gotten his blood flowing again, Dean zipped the jacket up to his throat and then looked down at it with a more critical eye. It was nothing like he'd ever seen before and he felt the pangs of curiosity tugging at the edges of his mind. Something was not quite right about his new friends or was he Dean's host? Memory loss factored in, if the man was telling the truth, and he supposed that would account for some of it but there was more going on than Sam was letting on.

Speaking of memory loss, he did a mental check and yes, he remembered everything. So whatever was going on with Sam was specific to him. Dean wished he was in the other man's place though. It'd be peachy to be able to forget the things that had happened just prior to his arriving in a heap in this place of storms and strange, transforming rooms.

"They know our secrets? What do you figure they want with us?" That made him uncomfortable momentarily but then he brushed it off. It seemed fairly easy for him to brush things off at the moment. Standing there looking out at the rain toward the center of this place, he was starting to sober up. Probably it had more to do with the fact that it was beginning to sink in that this wasn't some alcohol induced nightmare type thing as he realized his brain was subconsciously hoping.

"I think I'll take your word for it on what that thing says out there." He glanced down at the strange jacket he now wore. It look militaristic but again, nothing he'd ever seen before. This whole thing could be some experiment or game for some weird underground military faction. He wasn't sure he wanted to go out in a blinding storm just now with that possibility weighing on his mind.

Sure, if he'd had Lola, the Winchester 1897 shotgun always safely stowed in the Impala's trunk, he would have gladly gone storming through the place for a way out. Instead he settled for trying to get to know Sam. Maybe that would give him some helpful clues as to what was going on and how to get out of it alive.

"So, where are you from, dude? This is an interesting jacket. Thanks for the loan by the way."

"I still can't deside if it's a they.. or an it." Sam looked around from where they rested. "The only person I've met here before you.. that I've talked to was this warior woman.. Xenu or something. She kept talking like the planet brought us here and the planet takes care of us. I've been to a lot of planets and I've never seen one like this. We've gotta be way out. I don't even know what galaxy this is." Sam ran his hands down his face. This wasn't a situation you were just okay with. He was on a misson to get the frack off this planet. Sam Anders had yet to meet a force that could stop him yet. And even if he had been trapped there were two fleets that would come looking for him. One a little more vicious than the other. Come to think of it he was kind of lucky to be in such a position.

"Oh right, sorry. The message pretty much says you're here now, I'll take care of you, dont kill anybody." Sam smirked. "Doesn't hurt that my damn gun is waterlogged from being dropped into the ocean when I got here. Though so far, I haven't been attacked. I really can't figure out what's going on here but I'd be cautious of people's motives until we figure out who's in charge." Was he treating Dean like a team member already? The man was drunk and he had just appeared, just like Sam had the day before. They had to be on the same side of all this.

"No problem. That rain's pretty vicious. Until I got here, yesterday, I hadn't seen rain in over five years. It was nice at first, but now I'm starting to remember why no one likes it." Sam reached over and tapped the large patch sewen to the arm of his jacket. "I'm a Viper pilot from Galactica. Originally a pro pyramid player from Picon, before the attacks." That's the story he decided to go with, for now. It had worked for.. well his whole life so why bother changing it now? And for what? actually I'm a robot, there's a big comfy vat of goo in my room to prove it, wanna see? No. Not exactly.

"Where are you from?" Sam looked down at the denim that was drenched to Dean's skin and the boots. Nobody had worn fabrics like that in a long time.

Don't kill anybody? That was inconvenient. What if there were demons or worse here? He'd need to get rid of them quick. But he supposed the ban on killing wasn't a big deal considering he wasn't too sure what the people who ran this place would do to him if he tried. Maybe he could cut a deal. Rid them of their supernatural vermin and they'd let him go. See that might work. He thought about it for a moment as he listened to Sam talk. Then he stopped with a start.

"Hold up," Dean said, completely sobering now. This guy was talking about galaxies and planets and pyramid playing? The guy was either completely wacky or this place was some sort of rip in the time/space continuum and Sam was from the future. Which sounded very Star Trek to him and he chuckled slightly at what it would've been like had Spock been the one to find him face planted naked in the sand. "Just a minute here. You're from Galata-where and you've been to other planets? Dude, I think you hit your head pretty hard whenever or wherever you landed."

He eyed Sam half curiously, half warily with brows raised. This was pretty much crazy talk he was hearing. But was it a tactic to keep him off his guard so they or it or whoever ran this place could keep him from hunting anymore? Or had he lost his mind and was now actually in a mental institution, arms wrapped around himself in a straight jacket as he drooled his way through day after day in his own fantasy world?

"I'm from Earth. Which, as far as I know, is the only inhabitable planet in the universe. Well unless you consider hell to be a planet because I know some people do. Anyway, are you feeling ok, buddy?"

(sorry.. 12 colonies.. not 7... so many facts to keep straight!!)

Sam sighed shaking his head. Another one of these earth people. They were so self centered and so closed minded. Earth existed and nothing else. The existance of this planet they were on was not a surprise to Sam. The fact that he'd never heard of it didnt shock him all that much either. "I'm just fine. Where I'm from, Earth was just a myth. People live on the twelve colonies. Caprica, Picon, Sagitarion, virgon.. You've heard of them?" He asked. Chances were the man hadn't heard of them. History wise it was like talking to a cave man. Granted Dean was probably closer related to the early man than he was to a toaster like himself.

"There was a big war between the Cylons and the humans and well all but a few thousand humans survived.. Wait.. if you're from the past should I be telling you this?" Sam stopped to ponder the effect to the time and space continum. "You'll go back tell everyone what the space man told you and get yourself locked up crazy." Sam laughed at the idea but Dean didnt exactly seem the type. Actually, he'd been dealing pretty well with all these changes and information so far. Something Sam had acreditied to himself because of his constantly changing life prior to his arival here. Dean's must have been similar.

"Dont get me wrong. I've been to Earth. I was there..before I came here. I thought maybe it had something to do with Earth's atmosphere..but I take it this isn't normal for you earthlings?" He judged this from Dean's original reaction even though he was drunk. And part of him hoped it wasn't part of some sick Earth game. The fleet depended on eart to be a place they could live, start their lives again. Space life was not a place to raise a family, it wasn't even a place to just maintin the human race.

"Are you a soldier?" Maybe an odd question but on Galacitca you were a fighting memeber of the fleet or you weren't. Cylon or Human. Alive or Dead. Those were the dichotomies of life after the attacks.

"Sagitarion, Virgon...? Well I'm an Aquarius, I don't know about you," Dean quipped. He knew a little more about the solar system and other plants than say the next guy, probably because he'd needed to know the alignment of stars for certain rituals he'd had to perform over the years to kill the nasties that invaded earth. But he'd never heard of any these places and it was hurting his head trying to decide whether to think Sam, who was otherwise very sane sounding, was insane or from the future. He made a split decision to just accept that the guy might indeed be from the future.

"I don't think you have anything to worry about. I know how to keep my lips zipped. Where I come from most people don't believe in the things I hunt but they're very real and very much need to be sent back to where they came from." It was definitely a wonder he wasn't already locked away in a padded cell. He'd had too many brushes with that because of the supernatural things he fought to even flirt with the idea of talking about outter space too.

"I'm not exactly a soldier but I guess, yeah, maybe you could say that. I fight the bad guys." Dean ran a hand back through his drying hair and sighed. The bad guys. Who were they in this scenario. His instincts told him that he really could trust Sam though it still felt like a huge experiment or game. Perhaps some larger cosmic ghost (he half smiled to himself at the marriage of ideas - outer space and supernatural) was playing with them in this place like a child would play with a snow globe or an ant farm.

If that was the case, at least he had an ally in Sam. That was certain. He patted Sam's shoulder and steadied himself a but more on his own feet, feeling less and less dizzy as time passed. "You and I should explore and see if we can't find out who or what is keeping us here. Then we can give them the what for. Hm?"

Sam's mind finally returned to their small mission of getting Dean to his room and out of his sandy wet clothes or lack there of, not to mention he could use a good sobering up before they really made any plans. "So you're a hunter.. of bad guys.. questionably real bad guys. Hmm" Sam nodded figuring right now he'd believe just about anything.

"I'll believe you if you make me a pact that you won't go hunting me." Sam held out his hand and his hand was his word. Any pact made was one that would not be broken not even when the whole universe turned upside down would he let go of a promise, kind of like the one he'd made to his wife. "You didn't see anyone out there did you? I was looking for my crew, the admrial.. the president..my wife. Fiesty blond thing?" He maybe stretched the truth a little, they werent his crew, like he was that important but it was the easiest way to explain it right now. He chuckled shaking his head, of course he hadn't. "Nevermind. If she'd been out there we all would have known about it."

Sam helped Dean over to the wall and grabbed the key with his name on it. "Apprently they've been expecting you." He looked at the number on it and nodded, thankfully Sam knew where his room was. It was in the same section as his own. "My room is just down the hall from yours, though I cant say I've seen may people come and go yet."

He nodded finally relaxed and sure of who Dean was now, well as best as he could be. "Yes. I think we should. I'm bound to find a way out of here. I was with my raptor when I was transported here. I'm wondering if it's still out there. It might have come with me. If we can find the ship, I can get us out of here."

Dean shook Sam's hand and replied, "Yes, I hunt bad guys. I wouldn't hunt you. You're not a bad guy." He looked curiously at Sam. "Are you?" He grinned.

"I highly doubt you're some kind of demon or monster underneath all that human looking skin. You're safe, buddy. Besides I remember you saying we couldn't kill anything. So I'm guessing we won't find many ghosts and goblins here."

He was trying to make light of what he did. Make it sound like it was sort of Halloween and nonchalant. He didn't want to sound too nuts even if Sam had seemed to overlook his near drunken state. He hiccuped and laughed at himself, shaking his head. What a life he had. And now this place. What was next? It could only get better, he guessed.

"So you're married, huh? She sounds special if she'd raise such a ruckus we'd all know she was here already. Lucky guy." Dean tapped Sam's shoulder lightly with his fist. "You have a crew? I haven't seen anyone but you, bro. And you've only seen that Xeno-whatchamacallit?"

He stopped and thought for a moment. "Are you sure she's not the one running the place? If she is, I'll bet she has your ship. Or she knows who does." Dean hiccuped again. At least his head wasn't spinning anymore. He could use some sleep though. Maybe. He didn't want to underestimate anything here. He might close his eyes and end up somewhere else entirely new. He'd just found an ally. No, he decided, no sleep just yet.

"In any case, we should go find your ship. Don't you think?"

Sams stomach twisted when Dean laughed off the idea of him being anything less than a man, when in all reality he could pass for a man. Sam wasn't even sure if there were any real advantages to his state in this world. In his own the only one's he'd really found were that he was a bit of a wanted comodity whoever held the trust of he and his.. siblings? held the power. The strength may have been there, he hadnt really had the chance to test that out yet. On more than one occasion he'd thought about trying to figure out what it was that made him different but he'd seen the other's bleed and die, even have children and love. He could love he knew that for damn sure. Either way he was glad that Dean had laughed off the idea. "Yeah..haha" Sam joined him

"Kara though if you do happen to run into her I suggest calling her Starbuck. I'm not really sure she'd want to see me right now even if she was here." Sam pulled his hand back through is hair to take if off his face. "It's complicated." He looked up at Dean with a half smile. "What about you? You said you have a brother.. "

Sam mulled over his points for a moment. "You're right. She didnt seem like that much of a threat but she was a trained fighter, you could tell by what she was wearing and.. I dont know. She was from earth, you all look a little strange to me." He squinted then shook his head. "I think we need to find her and watch her for a while. See what she does. I dont think it would be wise to attack before we know just what we're dealing with here."

Sam sighed wishing he knew more about this place it acted as if it was.. alive. "I mean, have you seen one of the little..mud being things that run this place? I almost tripped over one earlier." He shivered at the thought of it. They were peaceful enough. Kind and rather forgiving of his fumble but he'd never seen anything like it in his gods for saken life, and he'd seen a lot.
