Haruka shifted the relatively heavy shopping bags from one arm to the other as she followed her foster daughter through the aisles of the latest fabric store. Ahead of her, Hotaru was running from one bolt of silk to another, fingering the fabric carefully and either shaking her head, or jotting down the price at the top of the bolt for reference. She kept glancing back at Haruka, as if to check the older woman were still following her.

Normally, tasks like shopping, especially for something like fabric, would be Michiru's domain. Haruka would have happily left such overtly feminine tasks to her lover, and gone on to help with another aspect of Usagi's upcoming wedding, like dealing with vendors who might want to take advantage of Usagi's good nature. But, Michiru hadn't come back after the battle with Galaxia, and the entire dynamic of the group seemed to change as a result.

Haruka couldn't go more than a minute without thinking of her lost koibito. She saw reminders of Michiru everywhere, especially in as feminine a store as a fabric shop. The color of Michiru's hair was woven into a piece of satin, her delicate frame reflected in the bolts of lace. The pictures on patter envelopes resembled her favorite outfits. Swimsuit fabric brought to mind the drawer in their bedroom that was entirely devoted to Michiru's favorite hobby.

Haruka shut her eyes and shook her head. She would not get wrapped up in emotion in public, in a fabric store of all places! She cleared her throat to get Hotaru's attention. "I'm going to step outside for a moment, Hotaru-chan," she said. The younger girl met her gaze for a moment, frowned, then smiled and nodded cheerfully, as if she'd taken the measure of Haruka's emotions in the one glance and decided to let her Haruka-papa keep her dignity.

Shaking her head, Haruka turned toward the door of the shop. She readjusted the bags yet again as she stepped out toward the sunny streets of mid-afternoon Tokyo...only to find her foot landing on sand and her body assaulted by pounding rains and gale-force winds. She stumbled, but managed to keep herself upright. Her eyes widened as she took in her surroundings. Wherever the hell she was, it was definitely not Tokyo. Within the seconds it took her to catch her footing and adjust to her surroundings, she'd been soaked through.

It was like some sort of cruel joke, like someone had read her mind, found all the turmoil and pain she'd been keeping inside for the past month, all the frustration, and plopped her into a physical manifestation of her emotions. She turned on the spot, worried that Hotaru had somehow been dragged along into her personal Hell, but she couldn't make out the slight girl's form through the driving rain and wind. "Hotaru!" she called. "Hotaru, are you there?!" But there was no reply; Haruka's voice was swallowed up by the storm.

She turned around again, trying to see if there was anyplace nearby that would serve as a shelter from the storm. She wasn't foolish enough to think she'd survive for long in the middle of a storm this violent. Her eyes made out the vague shape of a building or buildings, it was difficult to tell which, not too far off. She set out for the shapes, the wind pushing her along as she walked, unsure of whom or what she'd meet when she arrived. Whatever it was, she was sure that, even if Ten'ou Haruka had problems dealing with it, Sailor Uranus would be able to handle anything that was thrown at her.

“No, they don’t all fly”, Rogue replied. “Although there are a lot that can. Mutants are—“Rogue broke off as she tried to remember how Professor X described them. “Mutants are supposedly the next stage of evolution. They’re people with a x-gene that causes them to develop powers when they hit puberty. For every power you can think of, there’s probably a mutant with that power”, she added with a chuckle. When Haruka explained what she was, Rogue had to admit that it kinda reminded her of the X-men. “Really? That’s funny. I’m kinda in a group like that myself but we’re not protecting a princess. We’re more along the lines of trying to stop bad mutants and using our powers to help others”. Oh god, that sounded dorky but since it was the truth it was hard to describe it any other way.

“There’s at least another person who does the hero thing”, Rogue explained. “He’s name’s Bobby and he’s a mutant like me. Funny how three people would be hauled here when they all fight bad people”, she noted. “Kinda makes me wonder if that’s why we were brought here”. Rogue’s eyes narrowed suspiciously, she was going to have to find out who was else was here and if that was the connection. Of course, why would someone bring a bunch of heroes together? Unless they want us to help or they want to keep us out of the way. “A little poking around might help but first things first. I promised to show you to your room”. Rogue put up her hood again and glanced around the lobby as though looking for something. She had quickly discovered that if you thought about something then usually it would appear pretty quickly and soon enough the girl spotted an umbrella over in the corner by a coat rack.

“Here”, she said as went to grab the umbrella for Harkua. “If you want, I could take one of your bags for you or I could hold the umbrella”.

Haruka considered Rogue's explanation carefully. "Are there many mutants where you come from?" she asked. More people with powers could end up being a bad thing, if more used their powers for nefarious purposes rather than good ones. But, Rogue sounded like one of the good ones. They had quite a bit in common, it seemed. She was a senshi where she came from, albeit of a different sort from Haruka. That fact alone made Haruka trust the girl more than she would have otherwise.

Her eyes narrowed as Rogue continued into speculation as to why they were here. It bore thinking about. Why would whomever brought them here choose so many warriors, unless they were meant to protect something? "I agree," Haruka said. "We should definitely look into how we came to be in this place later."

When Rogue grabbed the umbrella, Haruka felt a light blush rise on her cheeks. She was used to being the gallant one. Having the tables turned on her was slightly off-putting, especially from someone as pretty as Rogue. She couldn't compare to Michiru, of course. No one could, not in Haruka's mind. But Haruka had always had an eye for pretty girls, and had a habit of noticing them at inopportune times. She hefted her bags. "I can manage these," she said quietly, turning her head quickly in the hopes that Rogue hadn't noticed her blush. "But help with the umbrella would be nice, thank you."

"There are good number of mutants running around", Rogue replied as she went toward the door. "Seems like there's more everyday". The girl waited till she was outside to open the umbrella since she was a little superstitious and held it above both their heads before heading toward Unit C. The storm was still pretty bad but Rogue was glad to see the wind had let up a little so holding on to the umbrella wasn't too hard.

Still, they had to move fast if Haruka didn't want to get completely drenched and soon they were at the steps of Unit C. Without thinking, Rogue once again went for the door but that was just her nature. She was never the type of girl who stood around waiting for someone else to open the door for her. She closed the umbrella before heading inside the building. Since Rogue roomed in Unit E, this was her first time inside Unit C or any of the other units for that matter so she was little surprised that Unit C looked exactly like Unit E. Every detail was copied.

"So..um, what room did is yours?" she asked Haruka, glancing at the blonde girl. Like Unit E, all the doors were very close to one another, giving the illusion that there was little space between each room but Rogue knew better. "The rooms are a lot larger then the doorways make them look", she explained in case Haruka had the same impression.

Haruka stepped up to the umbrella quickly, and had no trouble keeping up with Rogue as they dashed toward Unit C. She had to be careful not to run too fast, even in the wind and rain, or else she'd end up ahead of the relative safety of the umbrella. She was trying to figure out how to grab the door without dropping her bags when Rogue opened it for her, causing Haruka to avert her eyes again. "Thank you," she said, bobbing her head as she ducked inside the building.

Haruka raised an eyebrow at the row of doors which greeted her in the hallway. How in the world could a person fit into a room as small as the spacing of the doors implied? It would be more like a cell than a room. Then, Rogue explained about the rooms and doors. It didn't help much. How could the room be larger inside than it appeared outside? Rogue had also asked a question. Haruka pulled the room key out from the pocket of her leather jacket and flipped it over so she could read the number. "155," she said, looking up to scan the number plates on the doors. "It must be down this way."

She set off down the hall, keeping an eye on the numbers, trusting that Rogue was only a step or two behind. When she finally came to the door, she stopped and regarded it. On the face of it, the entry looked exactly like all the others on the hallway. She slid the key into the lock, twisted, and pushed the door open. The sight that greeted her caused her jaw to drop. She dropped the shopping bags to the floor just inside the room. Her room. The room she shared with Michiru at home. But, it couldn't be!

"How does it do that?" she asked, rounding on Rogue. She felt angry, panicked, confused, and a slew of other things that she didn't normally show in front of others. She pointed inside the room. "How can it look like that? That's our room! What's it doing on this planet?" It was like a sick joke, another way of the universe thumbing its nose at her. She looked at the room, then back at Rogue. "Does your room do this too? Does it look like your room from home?"

Rogue kept up with the blonde woman as she led the way to her room and soon the pair was standing outside the doorway. The teenager was curious to see what Haruka’s room would look like since her own had been a little surprising. She peeked over the other girl’s shoulder to see a nicely decorated bedroom but the appearance of the room clearly shocked her companion. Our room? she silently wondered but Rogue wasn’t going to ask.

“Yes, my room kinda looks like the one I have back home”, she admitted. “There’s a few differences and the rooms can kinda change at will. If you’re really unhappy with it you just have to think about how you want it to change and it will”. Rogue had figured that accidently when she first saw her room, which had looked like an exact replica of the room she shared with Kitty at Professor Xavier’s. All the girl had to do was think about getting rid of the extra bed and it was gone. Soon after she quickly experimented and made the room exactly to her liking.

“I don’t know how it’s done though”, she added, peering into the room once more. “At first I thought holograms but everything felt too real”.

Whoever was doing this must be telepathic, at least partially, Haruka decided. How else could they recreate her bedroom in such detail? Granted, she hadn't looked too closely yet, but the surface impression was that everything was identical to her room at home, the room she had shared with Michiru.

"You can change the room?" Haruka said, echoing what Rogue had just told her. She glanced back into the room, then shook her head. "No. There's no way I could do that." Not yet, she thought, but kept it to herself. It wouldn't be fair to Michiru's memory to just change everything.

She took a step inside again, steeling her nerves, and crossed over to the closet. She left the front door open, so that Rogue could follow if she wished. She pulled open the doors, and bit back a cry. Michiru's clothing was stuffed inside beside her own. Whoever had trapped her here had a very cruel sense of humor, she decided. She shook her head slightly and began rummaging through the outfits on her side, looking for a change of clothes.

"Did your things from home appear in your room too, Rogue?" she asked as she dug around for where Michiru would have hung her jeans if this had been home. "All your clothing, your books, things like that?"

Rogue stood at the doorway for a moment to let Haruka get a sense of the room and poke around but she soon took a step in just to look around. While Rogue had been pretty unhappy to find herself trapped on a different, her room had lifted her spirits a little as a semi-reminder of home but it seemed to be having an opposite effect on Haruka. When the blonde asked more questions, Rogue nodded in response.

“Yes, my clothes, my books, CDs…all my things were there. Even my uniform”, she added with a shake of her head. “At least it all looked like my things but there were extra things there too, like clothes that I’ve never worn in my life”.

Maybe I should give her some time alone to deal with all this? Rogue silently wondered. Haruka was not obviously upset or anything but this all had to be a shock. “Did you want me to take off or anything while you get settled?” She asked in her accented voice. “I understand if you ain’t up to looking around right now but if you are, I’m more than happy to show you around too”. Rogue shrugged, it was up to Haruka what she wanted to do.

“Not like I got a whole lot to do around in after all”, she added with a slight.

Haruka smirked. There were certainly things she'd never worn in the closet, but not for the reason Rogue implied. Michiru's wardrobe didn't quite fit into her closet, so she'd begun storing some of her more casual clothing in Haruka's closet. She was sure it was only a matter of time before the other woman's wardrobe engulfed hers completely...or at least, she'd been sure, until a month ago. She fingered the Azabu Juuban girl's uniform, hung neatly beside her own version of the boy's uniform, and the pain threatened to overwhelm her. She shook her head slightly. It wouldn't do to cry in front of a stranger, even one as kind as Rogue had been so far. That wasn't how Haruka operated. She found a pair of jeans at the back of the closet and yanked them off the hangar.

"Tired of my company already?" she asked, turning to grin at Rogue. Part of her wanted to take the girl up on her offer, to escape from the room and try and pretend everything was fine. The other part of her wanted to wallow in her misery for a little while. She knew what Usagi and the others would tell her to do, but Usagi wasn't here. For once, she'd be completely alone. "Not that I'm tired of yours, but I think I do need a little time to settle in," she said, offering a smile. She was a half-decent actress, so it shouldn't seem too forced. "Where are you staying? I'll find you later, and we can figure out the lay of the land, so to speak. Do a bit of investigating, maybe find out more about how and why we were brought here."

“That’s understandable”, Rogue said. “This is has gotta be a hard adjustment. Hell, I needed time to get use to it. I’m in room E201”, she added as she straightened. “Drop by if you need anything or if you do want to explore. If I’m not around, leave me a note”, she added as she pulled up her hood and prepared to leave.

“I guess I’ll see you around”, she said with a smile for Harkura, before Rogue turned and left the blonde girl in her room and made her way back outside and headed toward unit E. Some dry clothes were in order now and Rogue wouldn’t mind some down time she decided.

Haruka was glad that Rogue took her at face value. She nodded and smiled. "I will definitely drop by sometime," she promised. "See you!" She ambled over to the door and watched Rogue disappear down the hallway. Once she was out of sight, Haruka shut the door and faced the all-too familiar room. Then, she allowed herself the indignity of sinking to the floor, and let the tears slide down her cheeks. There was no Hotaru-chan here to keep her from wallowing, and she could afford a few minutes to let all her pent-up emotions have their release before she pulled herself together and dealt with her new situation.

(OOC: It's okay!)
