Day Ten
Who: Vaako and Riddick
When: Early Evening
Where: Their room
What: Odd conversation
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

Unsurprisingly, the dark-haired man had been pretty much constantly somewhere else, except when he needed to sleep. It just wasn't that comfortable being around a man who wanted to kill you, and was likely only stopped because he couldn't. Not to mention the constant dark really got to him. Of course, he did have to come back to sleep, but over the last few days, that had been pretty much all he had come back to his room to do.

Things were still tense, of course, but over the previous few evenings, they'd gotten into a bit of a rhythm. Vaako came back, he cleaned his armor, and they sometimes even talked a bit. Nothing much, but then, Riddick did have a habit of saying exactly what he thought, and Vaako had definately had to walk carefully around him. He had too many secrets that he needed to protect. It was an odd sort of armed truce, but the bruises were fading and he much prefered this to the way Riddick had greeted him. At least this way, the bruises could fade, and he probably wasn't going to be getting a whole new set. Though it was too soon to tell.

As usual, he'd risen in the early morning and gotten ready to go out into the world. He hesitated over his armor, neatly placed nearby and clean. It had been a pain to clean it yesterday, from all the sand being blown about. It would be so much easier to just skip it. But in the end, his habits were too strong. He did, however, leave off the gauntlets, and in fact all the smaller pieces. He'd just have to hope no one attacked his arms or feet, or face. His legs and chest were still covered. Still, he felt close to naked as he stole quietly out of the room, leaving his axe behind as well.

There was no real question over where he would go. He'd finished the play about MacBeth already, and was now working on a series of fantasy novels that he was almost certain were fiction. He couldn't be completely sure, because of all the different people that were on Mirage. This place very well could exist. It led a nice little thrill to the whole thing.

Finally, his eyes were sore from reading so much, and he was getting tired. With a soft yawn, he put the book on the table, ready to come back to it tomorrow. Briefly, he considered bringing it back with him to his room, but what was the point? He couldn't read in the dark. It was still storming outside as he made his way back to the dorm room he shared with Riddick. As predicted, by the time he got there, he felt sand that had crept in through every single crack in his armor. Very irritating.

It always felt a bit like taking his life into his hands when he pushed open the door to his room. He had to get himself ready, take a deep breath, and then just do it. Sort of like attacking someone, actually. As always, the room was pitch black, but he was getting good at making his way to his bed. At least Riddick didn't keep this room a mess, or else he'd be tripping all over the place.

There was something Riddick was trying to tell him, he was almost certain of it. He frowned and then shrugged. Truth was, he couldn't see why the bald man would possibly be saying these things, so he just let it go. There was quite a lot he didn't understand about the other man, and this was just one more thing.

"Yes, I'm starting to believe that."

He sighed softly as the other man dimmed the lights, thinking that he was going to have to be in the dark once more, but Riddick stopped when the light was low, but still more than adequate for him to see in. Clearly, Riddick was just full of surprises tonight.

"I don't think you have much reason not to 'kick my ass', as you say. But I'm not so masochistic that I want to be attacked again, so I'll just accept this."

Maybe someday, they would talk about everything that had been between them. About Kyra, and the previous Lord Marshal, and even his wife, Dame Vaako. But that day wasn't going to be today. He was, simply put, not ready for that. Anyway, to go so close to it, to go back to their own world even in their heads would be inviting a world of trouble. After all, Riddick didn't know what had truly happened, and he wanted to keep it that way.

And there it was. A not so very nice reminder of a short, distant, yet still very important past between the two men in this room. It was something they both always knew was there but neither brought up. Maybe one thought the other's abuse and beating was all the talking that would be done, and maybe one thought that talking would ruin whatever feelings were building inside of him and for the life of them they couldn't bare for that to happen. Or maybe, just maybe neither of them were ready to go down that road though they both knew they would have to at some point.

The only response to the first was a grunt of agreement and a nod of a bald head. Silvery eyes focused on the wall to the side of him, the side facing away from Vaako so maybe, just maybe the too observant Necro would not see the fact that one Richard Riddick was as close to an emotional break down that he had ever gotten.

Just then his chest began to hurt and without thinking he reached up absently and rubbed at the spot where the beginning of a faint glow that could only be seen by him at this point was.

"If I wanted to kick your ass I wouldn't be waisting my breath making small talk. Don't know about you but I much prefer the latter to the former right now." Nothing but truth rang in his words and it should have shocked him that he admitted to enjoying the talking. But yet, he wasn't.

He let the awkward moment pass, though he did know that if they were sharing a room, it was likely to come out again sooner or later. He was happy, though, for it to be much, much later. It was going to be a careful line to walk, to tell the truth to his Lord Marshal without telling him too much about the plots Vaako had made that had nothing to do with his wife. The plot that had put the Furyan on the Lord Marshal's throne, something Riddick had never wanted. He didn't want to deal with that little bit of information coming out.

"Small talk... not something I'm really used to. And, well, I never figured you for someone who would be, either. I have to admit, when I learned I was to share your room, I didn't expect this."

Which was far more honest than Vaako normally was out loud, but then, Riddick had shown a surprising tolerance for him saying what was on his mind at any given time. So he took a bit of a risk, and said part of what he was actually thinking. Not all of it, it was far too soon for him to be comfortable with that.

When Riddick raised his hand, concern actually showed on the face of the First Commander, and he half-rose from his bed before remembering himself and settling down. Still, something showed in the depths of those hazel eyes that wasn't quite normal for him. He cared. Now, whether it was because Riddick was his Lord Marshal, or because he was Riddick, he wasn't telling. Not even himself.

"Are you... well, my Lord?"

Riddick brought up a hand to rub at his chest, hiding the fact that it indeed hurt. For all his quick healing abilities he sure as fuck couldn't make this stop.he concentrated on talking to the other man and not on the low, throbbing ache. The last time he had gave in, it had been on Crematoria and had been something that even Riddick could not handle.

"I was never one for small talk before but I guess it's not that bad. Not that I'll make a habit outta it with everyone." Riddick said almost absentmindly. This fucking print that some unknown lady gave him was something he could do without.

Closing his eyes, Riddick willed himself to calm which was not easy but he was starting to make it haoppen. He looked at Vaako focusing on him,his eyes squinting and slowly the ache began to fade.

"Yeah I'm fine." It would have shocked himto hear just how concerned Vaako was if the pain wasn't pounding within his ears.

He sat, frozen with indecision for a couple of seconds. Riddick was hurting. It was obvious to him, and the way he rubbed at his chest, it didn't take a doctor to know that something was bothering him in that area. He wanted to go to him, help him. This was an odd urge, because he didn't even like the man. Knowing someone would be a good leader, and liking them wern't the same thing.

Maybe it was because Riddick was his Lord Marshal? He was sworn to obey, and to protect. And he'd always done his job. But he'd never quite done it as instinctively with the previous Lord Marshal as he seemed to be doing with Riddick. Odd enough, really, considering how Riddick had felt the need to greet him. Not that he could really blame him.

Finally, he stopped wrestling with himself and rose to his feet, moving gracefully across the room to the other man's bed. Very close by, and it only took a few small steps to make his way over. He knelt and peered into the other man's face.

"I'm surprised... you are not much of a liar. Or I am better at reading you than I know how to explain. Either way, perhaps we should get you to a doctor? What's wrong with your chest?"

Riddick who was normally observant was not so tonight. When Vaako moved toward him he didn't notice. It wasn't until the man was right beside of him, where Riddick could feel his heat, could hear his breathing quite well and almost hear his heart beating, that Riddick reacted. His chest began to ache more which he found odd because he didn't feel rage right now.

he felt like he would shake and he had this strange desire to pull Vaako down on the bed with him, curl up into him and..he couldn't.

"I. AM.FINE." Riddick bit out trying to convince them both because he didn't feel fine. He tried to control himself.he stood shakily and moved away too quickly, stumbling but not falling. He grabbed his boots and a shirt forgetting about the storm raging outside.

"I don't need a fucking doctor. Fucking stupid rage shit. I am not even outraged!" He was mumbling then he winced and cursed. "Fuck hurts." But he was showing weakness and why did it hurt more being this close to Vaako... it was the damn glowing print causing the pain right?

"I have to get out of here... just.. this... this isn't your fault..I just" Why did he add that part? He didn't want Vaako thinking this was his fault but he didn't finish beyond that. The pain was too great. He grabbed his goggles and headed out being met with angered rain and winds but he didn't care right now.

He didn't know what had happened. Once second, he was kneeling at his Lord Marshal's feet, and the next, he was pushed aside as the large man stood and walked, or rather sprinted, to the door. Meanwhile, he was completely lost on what the other man was saying. It didn't make even the slightest bit of sense to him.

Slowly, he rose to his feet, his face questioning, but before he could say anything, or even think of what to say, Riddick was gone. His last words spun through the Necromongers head, and he wondered what he had been talking about. Rage? The Furyan was hurt when he was enraged? He didn't understand, though he'd seen Riddick do it on Crematoria. He hadn't known then, and he didn't know now.

He stood, staring at the closed door for a long time. He had some studying to do tomorrow. The library seemed to provide any sort of information one could look for, and he was going to learn more about this whole 'rage' thing that Riddick had been muttering about. Why? He didn't know. But he wanted to know, so that if it happened again, maybe he could... help? What an odd thought.

It was a long time before he moved to his bed, stripped off most of his clothing, and lay down on the lavish bed. It was even longer until his eyes closed and he fell asleep. He was waiting for Riddick, but the bald Furyan never came.
