Day 9 evening
Who: Jigen & OTA => Mamoru.
When: Day 9, late evening
Where: Housing Unit A, indoors.
Why: Wandering about, looking around.
Rating: PG
Status: Completed.

It was a freaking miracle. Jigen did not know if he should be rubbing his hands together giddily or have his hand on his revolver at all times and scared shitless. Nevertheless, stepping into a spacey room furnished to suit his tastes exactly and finding rows of clean new suits, shirts, shoes and hats in the closets had a literally jaw-dropping effect on him. There was a full pack of Pall Mall super longs on the living room table, and nearby he found a bar equipped with whiskey, cognac, calvados, port wine, vodka and gin along with appropriate glasses for all of them. He found a record-player and a shelf full of jazz, blues and bossa nova records. The sofa was made of black leather, the coffee table in front of it was simplistic and made of glass and steel, the sheets on the bed were dark blue and the floor was of dark wooden laminate.

Jigen had to sit down for a while to stare at all of it - his room, his apartment that was more perfect than his hideouts in New York and the outskirts of Tokyo that he had been furnishing for a decade. It was uncanny and scary that someone or something could read his mind and know his tastes so well.

Before long he took a shower - never letting his gun from his sight, though - and changed to a new, clean black suit that felt like it was tailored to fit him perfectly. The black and white wingtip shoes were brand new and felt like they could use some walking and getting used to. He found a black fedora almost like his old one, and when he tried it on in front of the mirror, he started feeling at home again.

Never mind the kidnapping, the hurricane, the mind-reading Planet, the stone-faced golems, or girls changing their hair-color with magic. Now he had a clean black suit, a fedora to shade his eyes, his heavy Combat Magnum revolver under his jacket tucked under his belt at the small of his back, and a cigarette at his lips. That meant all was well in his books again, and so he left his room to look around a bit with his hands in his pockets and the brim of his hat hiding his dark eyes.

Jigen ignored his words - to tell the truth he really did not care about Mamoru's family life. He turned to face him and frowned seeing his struggles which he still tried to and almost managed to hide.

"You're hurt," he said. It was not a question nor an exclamation, it was a statement. Then he shook his head at him and added with a grim expression. "You shouldn't have let me keep you, but I see you have Japanese pride in you."

He could have hit himself. He normally portrayed such a stoic, steady demeanor, and this man saw through it. Maybe he was hurt more badly than he'd thought, if it was so apparent. Either that or he was just getting worse at hiding things. He didn't know which.

"I'm fine, it's nothing that won't heal. If it gets too bad, I'll leave."

He did, however, appreciate the complete lack of cooing over him that the other man was doing. He hated that sort of attention, and the no nonsense approach that the other man had appealed to him much more. It was an assumption that he could take care of himself. Or that's the way he took it.

Now Jigen smiled - an amused, lopsided and smug smile curved his thin lips. Mamoru's words were like they could have been spoken by Jigen himself in a similar situation. Goddamn Japanese pride, they both had it, but Jigen was old enough to be aware of it and try and shake it off.

"What happened?" he asked still not worrying for him but his smile had vanished as quickly as it had appeared. He tucked his hands in his pockets again and rocked on his toes and back on his heels for a few times before taking a couple of steps closer.

The smile was about as unexpected as anything that Mamoru could imagine the odd man doing, and he was slightly taken aback by it. On top of that, he had to figure out what the hell to say in response to the other man's question. He didn't pretend that Jigen actually cared in the slightest, and somehow, that made it easier. He shrugged with one shoulder.

"I got into a fight."

It was not the whole story, of course, and as admissions went, it was pretty weak. But it was a lot more than he would have told most people. The other man made it easier, ironically, by not caring. He didn't have to worry about being coddled by him.

He raised his eyebrows looking surprised. "This Tonks girl just told me today that there has been no conflicts on the Planet," he pointed out. "Looks like she was wrong."

Jigen thought it was very good he had met Mamoru - if nothing else, he had learned new things and now knew not to take it too easy on the Planet. If there was someone or something here that had beaten the thug of a man standing in front of him, Jigen ought to stay alert.

Interesting. Something he'd said had gotten a bit of a reaction out of the impassive dark man. He laughed softly, but with an edge to the sound, and shrugged again, still just using the one shoulder that was less injured.

"Wherever there's people, there's conflict. Your Tonks might like going around with her head in the clouds, seeing nothing, but people will fight, even if they can't kill."

It was not said in a confrontational tone of voice, more as a mere statement of fact. He saw the looks the other man was giving him, and it brought a slight smirk to his lips.

"If you think I'm doing badly, you should see the other guy..."

"My thoughts exactly," Jigen agreed with a grim nod at Mamoru's explanation.

He reached for his breast pocket and chuckled at the young man's last comment. Mamoru seemed like a tough guy, but not a cocky idiot like too many men seemed to be. He had depth, Jigen thought, there was more about him than just the muscle. He had sense and tact in his skull as well. Jigen appreciated that and as he took a cigarette from the Pall Mall pack, he looked up at the young man with a slight smile.

"Wouldn't want to be him. Go take care of yourself, Mamoru-kun," he said before he set the cigarette between his lips and picked his silver zippo out of his pocket. One flick of the wrist and an inhale like he had been doing that for 25 years, and the Pall Mall burned brightly for a while before the tip charred and the man blew smoke out of his lungs.

Mamoru smiled a little, deciding that he liked this man who looked Japanese but acted like no one he'd met before. He didn't like many people, so this was quite something. Maybe they would even talk again sometime.

"Yeah, I think I will. Nice to meet you, Jigen-san."

With a slight nod of his head towards the other man, he headed towards the stairs. It had been just about the right length of social interaction for him. Short, to the point... and now he could go get that shower he'd been thinking about before.

Jigen stood where he was for a while smoking his cigarette and watching after the stupefyingly tall man limping up the stairs.

After he had gone, he sauntered forwards with slow steps, wandering about in the building but paused to look out the window. It was dark, but the dim lights somewhere in the distance still showed how the wind threw objects through the air. The rain and the sand were drumming against the windows and the air shafts making the building echo. Jigen hoped tomorrow would be better, but then again, today had not been all that bad either. He had only been attacked once, after all.
