Day 9 - Complete
Who: Brigitte and Tyler
When: 11pm , Day Nine
Where: Library
Why: Brigitte’s burning the midnight oil and runs into a familiar face.
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete!

A storm still waged outside but aside from the odd glance out the window and her earlier excursion outside, Brigitte wouldn’t have noticed the shitty weather. She had ventured out sparingly on this day, once to go to the main building and the other to track down her sister Ginger. After eight long days of not seeing one another the Fitzgerald sisters had reunited and it went better than Brigitte had expected. Well, at least neither of them tried to kill each other this time or left in a screaming huff. Toward the evening Brigitte had taken leave of her sister, telling Ginger that she planned to visit the library for a bit. Ginger, who had never really been interested in books, left Brigitte to her own devices. Five hours later Brigitte was still at the library with a stack of books surrounding her.

So far the teenager had found some interesting tomes on werewolves and vampires but little to help her search for a cure for lycanthropy. A few hours of sitting had made her shoulders and back tense and her foot fall asleep so Brigitte decided it was time to get up and walk around to stretch out her limbs. The library was quiet most of the time Brigitte had been in there with the odd guest coming in but now it was completely deserted. The lone occupant walked between the rows of books, enjoying the solitude as she always did but found the dark silence a little eerily. Scared Brigitte? an amused voice silently questioned her. Oh that was rich. The big bad wolf scared of a dark library? Well, Brigitte hardly thought of herself as big or bad but she had to admit that since becoming a werewolf her normal human fears had faded to the back of her mind. Rarely was Brigitte ever scared of the dark anymore like she use to be.

Maybe the heightened senses help though, she silently mused when she heard the creak of a door. Company, she thought disgustedly and peaked out around one bookcase to see who it was. Nothing could have prepared Brigitte for who she saw entering the library.

Oh the weather outside is frightful… Tyler found himself humming as he roamed the halls the resort but the blond quickly put a stop to that. The last thing he needed now was to start humming Christmas carols! Not that he could argue with the song when he glanced out a nearby window. Frightful was a good way of describing the weather for that day. Day seven had been completely fucked up for Tyler after he met and had been incredibly attracted to Captain Jack Harkness. Tyler still didn’t want to think about how that little meeting had gone. Day eight had given the man another shock with the transformation of the ranch into a beach resort so by the time day nine swung around with a tropical storm, Tyler was done being surprised. He just wanted to resume his search for Brigitte and bum around the resort while trying to avoid running into Jack again. So far he was lucky with the last two plans.

Where the fuck is she? he inwardly grumbled . The resort wasn’t that big so Tyler couldn’t believe he had yet to find the girl and was starting to believe that Ginger had lied to him. Although, how Ginger could known enough to lie to him Tyler couldn’t explain. It was around 11 at night Tyler decided to give up and he was contemplating going to back to his room when he passed by the library. A book would be just the thing to put him asleep the blond man decided.

The heavy wooden door opened with a creak and Tyler poked his head inside. “Creepy”, he muttered as he stepped in and let the door swing shut behind him. It was dimly lit with some of the main lights switched off and Tyler got the feeling he was the only one here right now. He decided against switching on the lights and instead made his way over to the fiction section. Even though Tyler was pretty sure he was alone he couldn’t shake the feeling of eyes watching. He picked one book off the shelf, read the title and quickly put it back. Some book about werewolves which only brought up bad memories from when Tyler was abducted by the planet. Horror stories are the last thing I need right now, he thought as he continued browsing.

Was Brigitte doomed to keep meeting people she had killed? Or at least been directly responsible for their death? Great, when are Jeremy and Sam going to show up then? Brigitte wondered as she spied on Tyler. The last time she had seen the orderly was when she had locked him outside Ghost’s cabin to let another werewolf kill him.

Yes, you killed him for a crime he didn’t even commit, an accusing tone silently reminded Brigitte, bringing feelings of guilt as she watched the back of Tyler’s head. That guilt almost made Brigitte turn around and leave the library right then and there without speaking to Tyler. If he had any memory of what she had done then he probably wouldn’t want to speak to her anyway Brigitte thought but her common sense said otherwise. You’re trapped here and he’s trapped here. You’re going to have to talk to him eventually.

Brigitte sighed and stepped out from behind the bookcase to stand behind Tyler. “If you’re looking for something to read, the smut is over there”, she said in a flat tone and a nod to the left.

Tyler turned at the sound of her voice, jumping as she startled him. “Jesus Christ, did you have to sneak up on me?” he snapped, momentarily forgetting that he had been looking for Brigitte. It didn’t take him long to remember though. “So this is where you’ve been hiding. I should have known to check the library first”. Even though Tyler had been looking for Brigitte it was still a shock to see her here, acting like nothing was wrong. His relief in seeing the brunette girl was quickly over shadowed by his memories of her locking him outside to face a huge wolf. For what, Tyler still didn’t have a clue and he decided right then and there that he wanted to know.

“So”, he started in a sharp tone. “Care to tell me why the fuck you locked me outside? If I hadn’t ended up here I probably would have been killed by that fucking wolf you know”. Tyler scowled. “Can’t help but feel that was kind of the point”, he added in a chipped tone.

“Now I know I can be an asshole but seriously, what the fuck did I do to deserve that Brigitte?”

“Sorry”, Brigitte muttered as she shifted from foot to foot, her hands shoved into the pockets of her hoodie. It was incredibly awkward to stand across from a boy she had once kissed and killed. The awkward, guilty feeling at the pit of her stomach was only made worse by Tyler’s accusing tone. He wanted an explanation for being locked out and Brigitte couldn’t blame him but when he mentioned the wolf Brigitte started to wonder what exactly had happened. Yes, she had seen the werewolf tear into Tyler but hadn’t stuck around to watch him die. Did he actually die or had he survived? To Brigitte that was the more important question suddenly and she ignored his for the moment.

“How did you survive the attack?” The look he was giving her told Brigitte she better fess up to her reason for locking him out before he flipped out. “I’m sorry”, she blurted out, unsure of how to explain it all. “I….I was confused”. Not the most brilliant answer but Brigitte quickly explained. “After we…after I told you to leave me alone, you went upstairs to check on Ghost, right?” She waited for affirmation before continuing. “Well, so did I. After she had scratched your face. I found her with half of her clothes off, bruised up and crying. I thought—“ Brigitte broke, not sure if she should finish this for she knew he wouldn’t take it well.

“I thought after I kicked you out of the bedroom that you had gone upstairs and forced Ghost to…to do what I wouldn’t”.

"Confused? Oh that's a good excuse for attempted murder", Tyler laughed though it wasn't a happy sound. As angry as he was at Brigitte still stayed put to listen and couldn't believe what Brigitte saying. Sure, back at the clinic he had gotten a few, if not most of the girls, to perform sexual favours in return for drugs but he never forced them to do anything. "Are you out of your fucking mind?!" he yelled.

"Okay, one: I'm not a rapist, okay? Two, Ghost is a fucking kid and I'm not a pedophile! Finally, three: Ghost is a fucking nut job who lives in her own world half the time! How the hell could you believe her?" Tyler was insulted for sure but surprised to find himself a little hurt that Brigitte thought so lowly of him. Despite her weirdness he had been very attracted to her and thought they even had a moment back at Ghost's house...well, until she kicked him out of the room.

"This is bullshit, I would never ever do something like that. It's a good thing this fucking planet grabbed when it did or I might have been dead!" He drew an angry breath and contemplated storming out then and there but he had spent so long looking for Brigitte that he couldn't do it. Tyler looked about the room, his eyes narrowed as he attempted to not look at Brigitte. Instead he focused his eyes on the bookcase behind her and asked in a tense voice, "Where is Ghost anyway? Is she with you? Because I've got half a mind to tell her off right about now".

Brigitte opened her mouth to argue but couldn't get a word in as Tyler raged on. She couldn't blame him for being angry but if Brigitte could have gotten a word in she would have told him to stop acting like he was some innocent victim. He might not be a rapist but as far as Brigitte saw, what he did at the clinic wasn't much better and she sure as hell felt dirty after letting him inject her with monkshood down around her privates!

He just kept on talking though so Brigitte bit her lip and waited for him to stop. The only good thing out of this conversation was that Brigitte learned the planet had abducted Tyler just before he was attacked which meant she didn't have to worry about him being infected. The last thing she needed was to have two difficult werewolves on her hands, Ginger would be quite enough. When Tyler finally finished, Brigitte spoke up.

"Ghost isn't here. She's probably back at her house in the woods and you're not the only one who would like to tell her off or strangle the little bitch", she snapped. "Ghost lied to me and in case you haven't noticed, she's a really good liar. She's the one who burned her grandmother up you know. I don't even want to tell you what that little psycho did to me after you were gone".

Brigitte took her hands out of her hoodie and crossed her arms defensively. "Look, I am sorry for what happened. I could have killed Ghost when I found out the truth but I can't change what I did either. Just like neither of us can change the fact that we're stuck here together. If you want to hold this over my head, I don't blame you but I'm warning you right now not to start something over it. If we fight, you'll lose".

“She what?” Tyler balked when Brigitte told him about what Ghost did to her grandmother. “That’s sick, that’s….actually not that surprising when I think about”, he added as he shook his head. “I knew there was something wrong with her”. He glanced at Brigitte as she assured him that he didn’t want to know what had happened after he left but that just sparked Tyler’s curiosity. He considered asking for details anyway but Brigitte was already apologizing….and threatening him in the next breath.

Tyler chuckled. “You are some piece of work, you know that? One minute you’re apologizing and the next you’re telling me you’re going to kick my ass. Does this angry shit run in your family? You’re sister seems to be about nuts as you are. I met when I arrived her and she told me the strangest things about you”, Tyler said, tilting his head slightly as he looked at Brigitte, his eyes thoughtful.

“Fine”, he continued abruptly. “I won’t start shit. Wouldn’t want to tick off a ‘dangerous man-eater’ like you”. Tyler’s lip curled at his sarcastic tone. “How long have you been here so far? And where have you been too? I’ve been looking fucking everywhere for you”.

“What?”

Oh fuck, what the hell had Ginger told Tyler about her? Whatever it was, it was clear Tyler hadn’t believed her sister or otherwise he probably wouldn’t be standing here talking to Brigitte. The teenager thought to ask just what Ginger had told him but decided against it since she didn’t need Tyler to actually believe that shit. “Ginger’s…Ginger was just joking”, Brigitte said carefully. “My sister has a dark sense of human but you’re right about one thing, she is angry”. While Brigitte felt conflicted over how she felt toward Tyler, she did not want the blond getting on the bad side of Ginger. The redhead might be calmer now but Brigitte knew her sister couldn’t be trusted not to lash out at someone and Tyler would be a prime target. Especially if Ginger knew anything of what happened between Brigitte and Tyler.

“Stay away from Ginger”, Brigitte cautioned. “If she comes at you, try to find me as quickly as you can. I’m the only one who can handle her”. That wasn’t true Brigitte knew but she was probably one of the few who wouldn’t kill Ginger in the process. Or at least the only who would try to avoid killing Ginger. “Okay?” Once she had confirmation from Tyler, Brigitte finally answered his question. “I’ve been nine days now and most of that time I’ve been either in library, my room or outside. I had to go rafting a few days ago but other than that, not much. What about you? How long have you been here for?”

Okay, something weird was going on here. Weirder than usual for Brigitte, Tyler thought. “Fine, I’ll stay away from your sister”, he replied but it wasn’t a sincere promise since Tyler was not about to let Brigitte dictate what he could or couldn’t do. “I’ve been here eight days myself. You had to go rafting huh?” Tyler said as he walked over to nearby table and leaned against, his long legs stretched out. “That was probably the same day they forced me to go bowling with a bunch of people here. I kicked ass of course”, he added somewhat proudly.

The blond glanced around the library in bored manner. “We’re in this beautiful place and you’ve spent most of your time in here? Wow, you sure know how to have fun Brigitte”, he smirked. At least I didn’t find her shooting up in a bathroom again. Looking around at all the books, particularly a pile off on another table, Tyler had to wonder if Brigitte wasn’t looking for something. He straightened up again and headed for the table full of Brigitte’s books, picking one up as he sat on the table.

“Howling at the moon”, he read out loud. “Werewolves in history”. Tyler was about to make a joke but stopped as he remembered the wolf-like creature that almost attacked him. “What’s with all the books on werewolves? Seems like a recurrent theme around you”.

Brigitte rolled her eyes. Winning a bowling game? Yeah, that's some accomplishment there Tyler she thought but decided to keep the snarky comment to herself. Tyler, she knew, wouldn't have appreciated it. "So? Perhaps my definition of fun differs from yours Tyler", she replied as she moved forward, back to the table with her books.

He was quicker though and soon Tyler was reading off the titles of the books, causing Brigitte to pause nervously. Since he had seen the werewolf formally known as Jason, she had to wonder if Tyler was smart enough to figure out what it was. His question betrayed that he suspected something but how much Brigitte couldn't tell. Still, Brigitte wasn't about to start blabbing that she was a werewolf.

"It interests me", was all she said before taking the book out of Tyler's hand and gathering up the ones she planned on taking and putting them in her bag. The ones Brigitte didn't want, she left on the table. The golems would put them away later. "Aside from bowling, how have you been passing your time here?", she asked suspiciously. While it was obvious Tyler was not a rapist, she knew the kind of shit he use to pull at the clinic and silently wondered if Tyler was up to his old tricks.

"Interests? Seems more like an obsession to me", Tyler remarked as he put the book back on the table. He was going to say more when Brigitte asked what else he had been doing here. Her tone suggested it was nothing good which annoyed Tyler. "Oh just the usual, terrorizing the locals, burning kittens, being a complete and utter ass", he replied sarcastically. "What the fuck do you think I've been doing? I've been trying to find you and find out how to get home. Christ, you act I'm some monster or something". He watched Brigitte grab her books and continued talking. "Speaking of monsters, care to tell me what that thing was? You know, the creature you tried to feed me to?"

Tyler moved closer to Brigitte in his usual intimidating fashion. "I think I already know what it is", he said in a low voice, leaning closer. "Doesn't take a genius to connect the dots. Why else would you be reading books about werewolves unless you think that's what that thing was". If they were back at the clinic right now, or hell, back in Canada, Tyler might thought it was funny. He might have laughed at Brigitte for believing in werewolves but now, after arriving on Mirage, Tyler's mind was a little more open. The idea that werewolves existed was no stranger than women could control water or waking up on a strange planet.

Not to mention Tyler had seem the damn thing with his own eyes. "This shit is real, isn't it? And that thing...you knew that thing was out there".

Obsession? Yeah, I guess you could say that Brigitte thought as finished loading up her books and closing her messenger bag. She watched expressionlessly as Tyler had his little freak out but her expression soon grew weary when he went back to talking about the werewolf. It was getting late and she was getting sick of talking about the creature. When he moved forward, Brigitte instinctively stiffened, uncomfortable with how close Tyler was to her. With his body so close to hers Brigitte got a good whiff of his scent and soon felt nervous for a whole other reason. He was saying something about connecting the dots when Brigitte unknowingly started to lean forward and breath in through her nose.

Brigitte knew she didn’t like Tyler. That was a solid fact in her mind but that fact couldn’t stop the wave of lust and hunger that came over the girl at that moment. It was his scent that did it, something in Tyler’s skin that had the werewolf thinking about blood and sex. Her mind went back to the memories of sitting on a bed with Tyler, when she had briefly given into her urges and kissed the son of a bitch. It was a tempting thought and Brigitte might have even acted upon it expect her mind had finally unscrambled what Tyler was saying.

Shit is real…you knew.....

Just a bite
, a dark whisper from the depths of her mind.

Brigitte jerked back suddenly, her eyes widening and her breath coming harder. For a moment she had been imagine biting Tyler and that had been enough to scare Brigitte and slap her awake. “I…yes, it’s real”, she blurted out. “It’s all real and I…I have to go right now”, she added in a slightly panicky tone. Brigitte started to back up and move away from Tyler quickly. “Look, it’s really late. I’ll talk to you tomorrow”, she managed to get out as she made her way to the door. The teenager was going to leave at that but then she remember Ginger and glanced back over her shoulder at Tyler.

“If you need me or if my sister gives you any trouble, my room is 213 in building F, okay?”

Is she smelling me? Tyler wondered. It wasn’t the first Tyler wondered that about Brigitte although this time he didn’t ask about it. Instead, Tyler was wondering what the deal was with her weird habits and right on cue, Brigitte jerked away from him. It reminded him of their brief encounter in bed. One minute Brigitte had been kissing like her life depended on it and the next she was kicking him out and saying she needed to be alone. What is with this chick? Tyler wouldn’t have too long to worry about Brigitte’s mood swings when she confirmed his worst fear.

This shit is real. Holy fuck, it’s real? his mind frantically repeated. Before he could ask Brigitte any more questions, she backpedalling and making a beeline for the door. “Where are you going?” Tyler demanded to know. She just shot back some shit about her room number for when he needed help. “That’s it? You drop a bomb on me like that and now you’re running off?” Tyler couldn’t believe it. “You can’t just take off!”, he yelled before getting control over his voice. “How can werewolves fucking existed? Where did they come from? How do you know about them?”

He gave Brigitte a hard look. “Before you leave, you could at least tell me that. How did you find out about werewolves?”

“What?” Brigitte snapped. “Don’t tell me what I can or can’t do! If I want to leave then I will!” Oh she did not need to get in a fight with him right now. Brigitte was already on edge and she did not need a fight to get her blood pumping. She didn’t need a push that could make her lose control. Thankfully Tyler lowered his voice and Brigitte managed to take a few slow breathes to calm her down enough to try and answer his questions.

“I don’t know how werewolves came to be or were they originally came from”, she replied. “The first time I saw one was when I was back home in Bailey Downs which, was also when I first discovered they existed.”One was attacking dogs in my home town before it started attacking humans”. Looking away, Brigitte added, “Other than that there’s not much else to tell”. It was a lie of course but Brigitte wasn’t about to spill her guts out to Tyler. A stranger was one thing but Tyler was complete scum in her mind.

“Now, if you don’t mind I’m going back to my room. It’s getting late and I’m getting tired”. Brigitte turned away from Tyler and left the library as quickly as possible feeling unsettled. Another person knew the truth about werewolves and no doubt he’d eventually figure out that Brigitte was one. Especially if she didn’t learn to control her impulses. Brigitte sighed as she grabbed her rain jacket and made her way out through the storm. She couldn’t decide if if was better to simply tell Tyler the truth or to keep her mouth shut and hope he was too stupid to figure it out.

Tyler didn’t learn much from Brigitte about werewolves but he did learn a bit more about Brigitte herself, such as the fact that she was from a place called Bailey Downs. Since Brigitte was incredibly secretive about herself, getting any information was rare and Tyler pushed it to the back of his mind for later. He scoffed when she said there wasn’t much else to tell. “Oh puh-leeze”, Tyler muttered. It was obvious Brigitte was lying but the teen wasn’t about to share anymore with Tyler as she made a hasty exit.

“Well, fuck! This is just great”, he groaned. “Planets, psycho sisters, bi-curious mood swings, drug-addicts and now werewolves. What else is this place going to throw at me?” Of course Tyler was alone in the library so no one answered him. Deciding he was too tired to read, Tyler left the library without grabbing a book and tried to catch up to Brigitte. He had little luck since the girl moved fast as lightening and was out the door by the time he got to the lobby. Tyler rubbed his temples and felt the beginnings of a headache. He was probably better off not following Brigitte and soon Tyler made the trek back to his own room to get some sleep.

Perhaps tomorrow everything would make more sense.
