Who? Cassie & OPEN
Where? Game Room
When? Day 9. Evening.
What? Cassie plays the slot machines etc.
Rating? PG-13 for possible swearing/drug references.
Status Complete.

Cassie had spent her first full day on Mirage hiding in her room... her room that looked surprisingly like her room back home, except with the addition of things she'd always wished she had but never got round to doing. The walls colours seemed to change according to her mood; just staring at her own ceiling was a bit trippy. She'd slept for a long time on and off, curled up under her duvet as she tried to come to terms with what was going on.

Now, on her third day on the planet, Cassie felt human enough to leave her room. The planet wasn't planning on making it easy for her, however, because not only had the setting of the resort changed completely since she'd arrived, the planet had decided to brew up a storm. Dressed in a black pinafore with a multi-coloured shirt underneath and knee-high silver socks, Cassie dashed to the one place she knew she would feel safe and secure. The game room. The moment she walked through the door she felt that familiar buzz of excitement. An amusement arcade was the one place Cassie felt she could escape reality for a while. Nothing in an amusement arcade mattered.

She located a golem who gave her a cup of tokens, and with an eager smile she moved to a slot machine. Pressing her lips together in anticipation she popped the first token into the slot and gripped the lever firmly. She paused for a moment, closing her eyes as if to make a wish and then pulled down on the lever. The pictures whirred, and the machine gave a clatter as more tokens came pouring out. Cassie's face light up as she reached down to scoop up the tokens. "Yeah! I win, motherfucker!" she screeched to no one in particular as she straightened up again

Gwen got her wish for the sun to disappear - only now it seemed like everything was going to disappear in the storm. It didn't let up - like the hurricane from hell, or something, she thought as she wandered through the resort, watching the storm through the windows. Trees blew, nearly toppling over from the force of the gusts, but the planet wouldn't allow that, now would it? That would make things unpleasant in the long-run, and Gwen had this sneaking suspicion that this planet was like a toddler throwing a tantrum of some-sort. It was angry at the moment, or something along those lines, but if it destroyed things, it would just get mad for having to clean it up.

Gwen shook her head a little, unable to believe she was actually having these thoughts. She smirked a little, thinking it had to do with Torchwood influence - starting to sound like the natives, she mused. She turned down another corridor, hearing loud bells and whistles sounding and the excited shouts of a woman's voice.

She wandered into the game room, looking around with a small smile. A place to get away from it all, lose oneself in the colors and noises. And judging from the young woman winning tokens at the slot machine - it was serving it's purpose. Gwen stood off to the side, crossing her arms over her chest as she watched the excited young woman.

Cassie didn't notice that anyone else had entered the game room - the noises of the machines and flashing lights were enough to distract her from almost anything, and it wasn't as if anyone has spoken directly to her. She grinned and slipped another token into the machine, pulling the lever. She wasn't quite so lucky the second time, or the third time. "Oh, you dirty little tease!" she joked to herself, sticking her tongue out at the machine before spinning round to find out what else she could play with.

Instead, she came face to face with the stranger, eyes growing wide with surprise. "Oh, wow! Hi! I didn't know anyone else was around," she admitted, her smile not faltering as she tilted her head to one side, examining the woman. This was the first person she'd met since seeing Bella in the garden, so she was naturally rather curious. "I'm Gretel..." she lied, the arcade atmosphere making her automatically assume the pseudonym she'd taken up in the arcade at home. The whole planet was like a fantasy land, what did it matter?

Gwen had never heard a machine being called a tease before, but seeing as it was a casino machine, she didn't doubt that such a thing was possible. Gwen thought it might be fun to try it out - especially seeing as it appeared that the tokens were provided by the casino.

At that moment, the girl turned around and Gwen jumped a little at the exclamation. "Oh, sorry - I didn't mean to startle you," she said, holding her hand up in an apologetic gesture. "You don't seem to be having much luck with that machine, Gretel," she said, gesturing toward the slot machine. "You should try your hand at another one - it's what my grandmum always does when she says they go cold," she said with a smile. "I'm Gwen," she introduced herself, seeing no need for an aliases.

"Oh, no, you didn't. It's just... I got a bit lost in my own head, I suppose. It's all the lights," she tried to explain, waving a hand vaguely as if to mimic the flashing lights of the machine.

Her eyes narrowed as she glanced back at the machine, looking at it as if she were suspicious of a lover. "No, looks like my luck's all out. And it started so well, too!" she said with a little shrug. "Want to see how your luck's doing, Gwen?" she asked, holding out the plastic cup for the newcomer to take a token from her.

Gwen stared at the cup for a moment, then reached out and took a token. "I've been pulled onto a planet that appears to have a temper like a toddler, you tell me what kind of luck that is," she smirked, taking a step to the machine next to the one 'Gretel' used. "Here goes," she said with a small laugh, dropping the token in. She pulled the lever, watched the pictures fly by then jumped a little when the bells and whistles started going off. "Beginner's luck," she insisted, watching the tokens tumble out of the machine.

"How long have you been here?" Gwen asked her, trying to be conversational as she gathered the gold tokens up and placed them in the cup.

"Oh, wow, yeah. It's pretty shitty," she agreed, as if she'd only just remembered that she was on another planet. "I was sort of meant to be moving house anyway, so I don't suppose it's much different. You know, except I can't exactly call anyone. So yeah, maybe shitty was right..." she mused, moving to lean against the machine she had been using as she glanced over at Gwen as she tried out the machine. A wide grin spread across her face as the lights started going off again. "Ooh, you win!" she gushed. "Yeah, it likes beginners, I think," she agreed.

"Oh, a couple of days, but I haven't really been out my room until now... culture shock, I think," she shrugged, her smile faltering for a moment as reality starting settling in once more. "And look at the wonderful day it gives me when I finally want to venture outside!" she added, managed a little smile at the thought of it. "How about you?"
