Day Eight
Who: Vaako and Riddick
What: Vaako arrives on Mirage
When: Day 8, late afternoon
Where: On the beach, near some palm trees to start.
Rating: PG-13 for language
Status: Complete

Though everyone else, including his wife, would see that moment as a failure on his part, he knew only satisfaction as he saw the Furyan's knife stab through the top of the Lord Marshal's head. Finally, he knew, his army would have a leader who wasn't a tyrant, wasn't mad with power. In short, they would have the leader they deserved. He'd been right all along, it wasn't he that was destined to lead the Necromongers. Despite the urgings of his wife, he'd never really wanted to.

He was one of the first to sink onto his knees in front of the man who had become their new Lord Marshal. You keep what you kill, and Riddick had killed the Lord Marshal, so now he was the Lord Marshal. It was that simple. No one even thought to question it. The entire Necromonger army fell onto it's knees before the new Lord Marshal, and Vaako had to struggle to keep the smile from his face. This was as perfect as it was possible for something to be.

Suddenly, everything changed. Underneath Riddick's feet, a strange sort of black hole opened up. It wasn't like a true black hole, though, because it only sucked Riddick in, not everything else. Everyone walked in shock as their new Lord was abducted, and Vaako rose to his feet, shaking his head in denial. Now who would lead the people?

The hole dwindled away until it was tiny, smaller than a marble, and then, without any warning, it opened wide again. This time, though, it wasn't here for Riddick. It was here for him. His eyes widened as he was pulled down into complete and utter darkness. His last, half-bitter thought was at least his wife would have a hard time controlling him if he were dead.

That wasn't his fate, however, and he soon realized it as he fell heavily to the ground. To the very sandy ground. Of course, he'd been on sandy worlds before, that went without saying. But this sand was strange. He went to his knees and examined it. Pure white, sparkling, nothing like the dull orange sands of Helion Prime. He picked some up, let it run through his gauntleted fingers, and sighed.

"Well, this is slightly inconvienant..."

He didn't notice much around him, which was unusual, but then he was shocked. He turned his gaze from the sand to the trees. He'd never, in his entire life, seen trees like this. He hadn't been wearing his helmet when he was taken, so the wind blew through his long, tightly-bound hair as he looked around.

Riddick didn't acknowledge when the commander left. In fact he didn't give a damn. Good the man was gone.Maybe he would just not come back. But he couldn't concentrate anymore. His mind kept wandering to the Necro. What if he got attacked? Riddick couldn't have this since he still had his own bone to pick with him. Of course that is what he told himself. Of course there were other things that could happen.

The Necro could try to kill someone to convert them to this damn religion of his. And of course that meant he could be attacked back.... God damn it. Why did he have this sudden urge to almost protect the man from everyone especially himself?

Sighing, Riddick stood, grabbing his boots and his shivs putting them in his thigh holster and stood stretching. He gave Vaako enough time to get a head start, and slipped his goggles on and a cloak that he only wore when he wanted to stay hidden. He slipped out the door, following the scent of the other man like an animal.

He kept his distance making sure that nothing happened to Vaako. God this man.... No.Riddick told himself it was only because if someone was gonna attack Vaako it was gonna be him.

No one had exactly given him a tour of the place, so he decided to check out the big building, first. Walking briskly, not looking or talking to anyone, he made his way out of the dormitory and into the bright sunlight. As soon as he was in the sun, he smiled. It had been so dark and gloomy in the bedroom he was, apparently, to share with Riddick. The bright sun felt good on his battered face, and he looked up into the sky.

First, he found the restuarant, but passed it by. He wasn't that hungry at the moment, and was much more curious than anything. He then went down hallways, pulling open random doors, and then stopped and gasped softly, glad no one was around to see or hear it. It was filled with books. Just absolutely filled. His eyes went wide and he stepped inside the place, letting the door close behind him.

There was an actual smile on his face as he went over to a chair, comfortably overstuffed, and tentatively sat down on it. It was very nice, nothing like the hard, uncomfortable Necromonger chairs, and he felt almost guilty as he relaxed back. His eyes were gradually, inevitably, drawn to the book he still clutched in his hands. Settling his axe down nearby, he opened the book and began to read.

Riddick followed the other man, keeping his eyes trained to make sure the other man was not harmed. Once they were in the building, Riddick watched as Vaako began to explore and raised a brow when he entered the room filled with books, and raised his brow. He saw it though he suspected that Vaako was sure he was alone. He saw the gasp, the smile on the other man's face as his eyes lit up and Vaako made his way to the chair.

Riddick watched for he wasn't even sure how long. But the sun was starting to set he could see it from the window by his seat in the shadows not far from Vaako. He had just watched Vaako get lost in his book and Riddick didn't realize he had a soft smile on his lips watching the man.

Sighing softly, once he was sure that Vaako couldn't get into any trouble here, Riddick stood and stretched. He watched Vaako suddenly feeling ashamed for following this man. What right did he have? Sighing once more, Riddick turned and left the room, heading back to their own undetected.Vaako never needed to know of this. Never.
