Day Eight
Who: Faith and Snape
What: Happy Library time
When: Mid-afternoon
Where: Faith might just find what she's looking for.
Rating: It's Faith. So at least PG-13
Status: Complete

Again, she'd had the dream last night. It was getting worse. But then, that's how the prophetic dreams worked, for her anyways. They got worse every night until they were fulfilled. There was no point in fighting against them, Faith knew that very well. She hated being told what to do, but there was no fighting against something intangible, like a dream. Even she had to admit that they always came true, and there was nothing to be done about it.

The dream was the same every time, at least on a basic level. A tall, dark man with long, black hair told her things about the supernatural with a British accent. She was familiar enough with Giles and Buffy's relationship to know what was going on there. She was to be trained, the dark man was supposed to be her watcher. Other than that, details were vague. She couldn't make out his face, or anything about him other than his hair color, voice, and the fact that he wore dark colors. The only thing that ever changed in her dreams was the sense of urgency she had about the whole thing throughout the dream and upon awakening. She had to find him, so the damn dreams would shut up already.

She wandered through the hallways and out into the grounds, still lost in her dreams. At first, she didn't even notice that the planet had changed itself. Still, it was impossible to miss forever, and her dark eyes narrowed as she surveyed the area, swore loudly, and stormed back inside. She could not handle that, she just simply could not.

Besides, she had to find her damn Watcher. She'd thought Marcus might be it, he had the right hair and look, and of course the accent. She found herself recoiling a little at how she'd acted yesterday, which was surpising, for her. But then, she'd acted in a way she wasn't at all comfortable with, so maybe it wasn't surprising. Anyways, it was a good thing Marcus wasn't her Watcher, because there was no way she was going to want to be anywhere around him anytime soon.

Well, she'd just have to find this man, that was all. She scanned her mind for what she knew about Giles. Kind of a dork, really, though cute in his own way. Always reading, in the library... right. So that was it. She'd start her search in the library. She'd try to find dark men with British accents and just ask them questions to find out if they were her watcher. It wasn't like she was exactly shy about talking to new people.

It wasn't much of a plan, but it was exactly the sort of crazy stunt that appealed to her. If she had to find every single dark haired man with a british accent on the entire planet and ask him, she would. Anything, so that she could sleep again.

"My God, Prophetic dreams suck ass..."

She murmured to herself as she wandered towards the library. Hopefully there, she'd find her damn Watcher and then maybe she could actually catch a good nights sleep, for once. A girl could hope, especially one named Faith. She pushed open the door to the room and glanced around.

The young woman raised her head once more so that she was looking at him rightside up this time. She tucked her long, dark hair behind her ears and smiled, still relieved that he had taken on this role. She'd been worried he would resist, but then, no one could really fight a prophetic dream. Obviously, he knew it would be pointless.

"Faith Lehane, but Faith works. Yeah, a Watcher is a trainer, an advisor, and... I dunno." She frowned and thought back to her previous Watchers. "They tell me what to do to make myself better, and I do it. Mostly, anyways. And they usually have their nose stuck in a boring book."

She raised her chin up and her face firmed with resolve. Clearly, he didn't know anything about her, and she would have to explain before he could be any use to her at all.

"I'm the Slayer... the only one, here. I dust vamps. I can also do demons and shit like that, really anything that is evil. I'm your girl! All you have to do is find ways to, like, make me into a better Slayer, and we're all five by five."

Snape listened intently to Faith with his arms crossed over his chest. He considered everything that she said. So, she was a Slayer of vampires and demons, and her Watcher's role was to help her reach her maximum potential in that role. He noted that she seemed willing, despite her hopelessly individualistic manner, to accept his instruction and direction. Interesting. There was only one problem he could see.

"My good Faith, that all sounds very well and good, but what use is it all here? Though there may well be vampires and demons among us, none of them can be slain! Not even, I would wager, by a Slayer."

Still, it was a pity. The idea of having a hellhound such as this one as his agent was... stimulating. A girl of his own, to mold, to prepare, to send forth to do his bidding, his dirty work. It touched something deep in his psyche.

"And, by the way, I assure you, the books I stick my nose into are never boring!"

Faith actually listened to him, which was a somewhat rare occurance. Despite the fact that she tended to respect very few people, some of those rare people had been her Watchers, and she was slightly more inclined to be polite to one. Only slightly, of course, and only in comparision with how she treated most people. But still, it was something.

"Yeah, I know, right? I was kind of wondering that, too. We're not supposed to fight but the dream told me I needed to find a Watcher, so here we are. I mean, the planet must have picked me for some reason, right?"

She raised an eyebrow at him and draped herself, if possible, even more comfortably across the chair. Lazily, she swung her legs as she continued to look at him. A smile quircked her lips.

"Hey, you know, whatever you say, Brainiac. Your thing, not mine. I'll deal."

Snape continued to regard Faith critically. She had heard his objection, and it seemed it didn't matter. She was determined to find a Watcher, and who was he to say it shouldn't be him. He had no idea what she was to do if she couldn't slay demons, but he was sure he would think of something.

"I had suspected that the Planet was choosing inhabitants based on its own deranged sense of humour, but since you've had this dream, perhaps the choice of you and I was not an accident."

He strode over to the chair Faith had flopped onto, and extended his hand.

"Fine. Let it be so. I will be your Watcher, and you will be my Slayer. I am scheduling our first training session for tomorrow morning, on the beach."

She even did him the great honor of sitting up, mostly, before she extended her own small hand and took his. She shook it firmly, just slightly harder than strictly necessary, but short of actually trying to crush his hand. She just had to show him she was stronger then him, not make him hurt a lot.

"Right, well, that sounds five by five with me, Skeletor. Wicked. You're a lot more... I dunno, darker than my last Watcher, but I can deal. I'm flexible."

She dropped his hand and then flopped down on the chair once more. She gave him a wry smile as she spoke.

"Oh, tomorrow morning? I dunno, I think that might conflict with my plans of doing absolutely nothing, but I guess I'll sacrifice for the training or whatever."

Snape was gratified when his new charge did him the "honour" of sitting up straight to shake his hand. It might not seem like much, but Snape sensed it was meaningful. In a way it felt good to have a new student. It was familiar. Setting up a training regimen would not be so different from scheduling classes.

"Yes, well, I know nothing about your previous Watchers, and I fully intend to do things my way. I will only tolerate your humourous teasings so far, my dear. I will see you tomorrow morning. Now, if you don't mind, I have some research to do."

She smirked at him a little, as if to say without words that he could do whatever she wanted, but she didn't have to respond. She was an adult, and didn't have to listen to him. But deep in her eyes, there was a growing sort of respect for him, that she didn't have for most people. Not that it would change her attitude in the slightest, but it was definately there.

"Right, whatever. Guess I'll see you tomorrow, then. I'll let you do your boring stuff now. Skeletor."

With an amused smile still firmly in place on her lips, she unfolded herself from the chair and headed for the library door. It would be good to get out of this weird place where books were everywhere. It just wasn't natural.

Snape watched Faith lift herself out of the library armchair and head for the door. He felt like something important had been accomplished, but it would take awhile to digest it all. All in all he was pleased. He turned towards the book stacks.

"Oh, one more thing. If you call my that... name again, you will find yourself in a lot of trouble. You may think I am dark, but you don't know the first thing about the extent of my powers."

He actually didn't expect that to have any effect on her, but he was fully prepared to teach her tomorrow.

"If you say so. Later, Brainiac."

It wasn't the same name, and she smirked at him over her shoulder as she said it. She was very sure that it would annoy him at least as much as 'Skeletor' would. She liked to push the limits.

She wasn't really worried that he could actually do much to her. She was undoubtedly much stronger than her and she was positive she could take him in a fight. So his threat, she basically ignored. With a cheeky wave over her shoulder at her new Watcher, she disappeared through the door.
