Arrival of Snape
Who: Snape and OTA
What: Snape arrives on Mirage
When: Dawn, Day 6
Where: A xeric wildflower-strewn meadow by a duck-pond in the hills near the Dude Ranch
Rating: PG, I expect
Status: Complete

Severus Snape dragged his feet one after the other up the cold stone staircase. This was the part he dreaded: facing the Dark Lord again, enduring his questions, resisting his legilimency without appearing to resist, slathering him with ridiculous praise. If it were only the latter, it would be merely distasteful, but He Who Shall Not Be Named was not the chief dark wizard in Britain for nothing. Snape was powerful, and an extraordinarily-talented occlumens, but pitting his power against that of Lord Voldemort was always a trying challenge.

As the black-robed wizard reached the penultimate step, however, he felt the most unusual tug on his foot. Looking down to see what was affecting him, he saw not stone but yellow summer-dry grass such as one was not likely to find in the vicinity of the Dark Lord's abode. Looking up again, firm plain beneath his sole, Snape was surprised to find that he no longer stood on an enclosed staircase, but now stood under a broad and rapidly-lightening sky. Near him he saw ducks floating on a pond, but in all other directions he saw nothing but rolling hills covered in grass and wildflowers of various hues. The purple florescences appeared to be echinacea for the most part. Was he in some unsettled corner of the American prairie?

As he gazed about him, blinking in the bright sun to which he was in no way accustomed, he espied in the furthest distance what appeared to be a collection of buildings. Well, perhaps he could find answers there to the mystery of his sudden abduction. Since he wouldn't be able to Apparate there until he had a detailed idea of its layout, he began walking in its direction. It was going to take a while to get there, and the Dark Lord would not be pleased by his unexpected and extended absence, but Snape saw no other choice.

Edward nodded, absently pulling his long sleeves downward as the sun rose higher.

"Edward cullen"He said pleasantly, sticking his hand out to shake the older man's. He wasnt quite sure what to do here, but he quickly thought back to Hisfirst moments after arriving and the plaque ace had taken him to.

He quickly turned toward the resort in the distance, gesturing for the robe clad man to follow him "I have something to show you. Your probaly not going to like it very much though"He said, a hint of sadness in his voice.

The sun was slowly rising, and Snape could tell it was going to be a hot day. Hot, sunny days were something he found distinctly unpleasant, so he was inclined to follow this young man to the settlement, especially since that was where he had decided to go already. Snape shook Edward's hand, then started walking, following the boy.

"Well met, Mr. Cullen. I don't suppose you'd be able to tell me where I am?"

He found the boy's words a little ominous. Why would he assume that he, Snape, wouldn't like what he was going to show him? If it was so distasteful, why did he have to show it?

"If whatever you have to show me is indoors, I'm sure I'll like it better than staying out here."

Edward nodded at his question.Steeling himself for the barrage of questions&confusion he was sure he was going to get. "actually yes..your on a planet called mirage"He winced slightly, knowing how silly that sounded.Espically outloud.

He snorted at the remark"Not a fan of daylight either huh?"He asked casually.

"Are you trying to tell me, Mr. Cullen, that I am on another planet, a planet not Earth? Is that even possible?"

Snape's mind spun with the young man's claim. It was so outlandish. Should he even believe him? Snape had never heard of the possibility of other planets sustaining life, let alone looking quite so very much like his home planet. He decided the other man must be pulling his leg.

"And which planet is Mirage another name for, Mr. Cullen, Mars? Jupiter? Pluto?"

Each one was as unlikely as the next, in Snape's opinion. He hoped they would reach the assembly of buildings soon, his young guide was proving less reliable than he'd hoped.

"I'm not a fan of the intense sun, chiefly. You do know it's dangerous for you, don't you? Damages your skin."

"Appearntly it is"Edward said softly, slowing down as they neared the resort. "Its been taking people,or so I'm told, from all over. All different species, all different time frames.I know it sounds silly..but its true He said, meeting the dark haired man's eyes.

He smiled, though it didnt reach his eyes, at the man's question "I'm not to sure of that myself.I dont think its any of the 'regular'planets though. At least not any that have been discovered yet..."He answered thoughtfully.

Edward chuckled low at the idea of the sun being bad for him. "bad for other people maybe.though I'm not a big fan of daytime either.Unless its rainy,or cloudy"He said with a nod.

"I'm sorry, did you say 'it's' been 'taking' people? Are you trying to attribute sentient qualities to a planet, Mr. Cullen? How gullible do you think I am? And different species? Do you mean different races? Is that your incredibly convoluted way of saying there are goblins here, house-elves maybe? Merlin forbid you should be talking about giants. Tell me, Mr. Cullen, if that is your name, why should I believe any of these very, very silly things you are saying?"

As they neared the collection of buildings, Snape came to the conclusion that they comprised a sort of ranch. He had never had the misfortune to visit any such muggle institution, but was widely read. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he liked to keep up on cultures of the world, both wizard and muggle, and that included cultures of the Americas. In fact, on closer examination, he would be willing to wager that this ramshackle quasi-hamlet was not a working ranch at all. He saw no herds of livestock, no ridiculously-dressed "cowboys", and the place was far too clean. And yet, it didn't look abandoned. Could it truly be that someone was gathering individuals of various races for some mysterious purpose?

Edward's nose crinkled up at his words."Goblins?House elves?I have no idea what those are,but I've never seen anything like that here"Of course he had only seen a few people in the day or 2 he had actually been outside.

Edward shrugged, as the buildings actually came into view, something he was glad for.He found this man unpleasent, and that he smelled different then most humans did.Like he had magic lingering on him or something "I didnt say you have to belive them"He snapped."But its true either which way mr.."He paused "Im sorry I didnt catch your name."

edward gazed sadly at the stables as they walked past.He was still getting used to how everything looked just like on earth, even the horses, who whinnied and shied away when he got to close.Soon enough they came to the plaque, and he stood aside, letting the man read it in peace."I-i'v uh only been here a few days, but im sure I can answer your questions,or at least find someone who can."He said softly.

Snape rolled his eyes, though not too obviously. The man was barely making sense. Perhaps he was a muggle, though he didn't look it. He, Snape, was glad that they had arrived at the "ranch", since it promised the possibility of better company, or, better yet, no company.

"You didn't catch my name, because I didn't offer it. But since you've 'asked' so nicely, my name is Severus Snape. I am a professor, and would be more than delighted to be addressed as such."

When the two of them reached the plaque, Snape took a moment to read it. It certainly seemed out of place at a ranch, but he had already detected something strange about this place. Once he had finished, he stood very still for a moment. If this was a ruse, it had just acquired a dimension far beyond a mere foolish young man's prank. He had clearly been abducted, and someone, or, he had to admit the possibility, something was attempting to impose its will upon him. His instinct, naturally, was to fight against it, but it was clear he required more information. Even if Cullen was lying to him, it was obvious he knew something.

"Mr. Cullen, let me apologize for my rudeness moments ago. I essentially called you a liar, but it now appears that that may not be the case. If you, as you say, are in fact an abductee like me, then it would appear we would be wise to be allies rather than enemies. Would you be able to tell me, perchance, if rooms have been prepared for my residence, as this... sentence of imprisonment seems to indicate?"

"Pleasure to meet you then."Edward said, his voice still kind as he watched the mortals take in his new 'prison sentence'as it were. "Your a professor?.Sounds fascinating, what did you teach if you dont mind my asking"Edward was always curious about mortals and the silly things they did, more so since he had meet bella.

He nodded slightly "Its quite alright sir"He said politely "Given the circumstances I probaly would have done the very same. Its not every day one is 'kidnapped'by a planet..or should that be planetnapped?"He said with a chuckle. He frowned slightly at the mans question of rooms. Keys?He hadnt seen any keys.

He suddenly remeber the cabnits beyond the front desk in the foyer, it would most likely have his key, if not well then he was sure the golems could help him "theres rooms available yeah"He said.Edward's dark eyes scanned the area before he spotted a building he hopedwas the main building, and gesturing for snape to follow him, headed toward it.

Snape looked over at Edward with a severe expression on his face. He may need the boy as an ally, but that didn't mean he had to like him. He had a distinct air of nonchalance that Snape found disrespectful. He supposed what they were having could be called a conversation, but it would not take much prodding for Snape to admit that he found nothing humourous about the man's jokes.

"I am a professor of witchcraft and wizardry, more specifically Potions; I should think it goes without saying that one is not kidnapped everyday; and I do hope you are leading me to these rooms."

Though he would very much have liked to have taken his leave from the young man's company at that point, he turned and followed him to the large building at the centre of the complex. It bothered him to be at a disadvantage to a person such as him. It was a situation that would soon change, if Snape found himself with the power to do anything about it.

Edward raised an eyebrow at his answer.Magic! He knew the man had smelled slightly off!Wizards always did for one reason or another. "Your a wizard?thats just..thats great"He held himself in check, it wasnt like vampires, or any supernatural thing, saw many wizards pass through their lands, and he didnt want the man to think he was giddy over something so small.

He turned, grinning as the main building came into view, and though he was sure the man couldnt see the blinking key, edward could. He led them inside and quickly opened the blinking box, removing the key and handing it the dark haired wizard "I think its your"He said with a frown.

Snape was slightly offput by Edward's enthusiasm concerning his wizardly nature. He had not believed muggles to be so enamoured with magic, not true magic anyway, but it was seeming more and more likely that Cullen was not a muggle at all. Of course, if he wasn't a muggle and he wasn't magicfolk, Snape wasn't sure what he was. He forced a grim smile in response to the other man's comment. He was trying to compliment him, Snape supposed.

"My key, is it? How odd. And this is my room number? It seems I was expected, though not by you, or so you say. Do you know where this room is?"

Snape looked with skepticism and not a little disdain at the mechanical contraption in his hand. It seemed that they were truly in a non-wizarding environment. He wondered if anyone else here could do magic.

"Rooms.Right"He muttered, glancing at the number on the key.

He really didnt have much knowledge about the lay of the land, only having been to his room, the kitchen, and the forest, so far.Thankfully it seemed to dorms werent spread all that far apart.

He quick found the D dorm, and followed behind the black-clothes wizard through the halls, frowning to himself and being lost in thought before he literally bumped into him,and saw the wizard had come to a stop in front his door, a strange expression on his face "Oh!I should warn you though, the rooms change to look however you want em to look"

The long-suffering Potions Master followed the pale boy across the campus of the ranch to the dormitory block, giving his best impression of patience. He itched for this introductory process to be over, so that he could be left alone to adjust to his new situation. Clearly, if the Planet was abducting people, it was not doing so randomly.

Taking the key, he moved ahead, making his own way to the room indicated by number on the device. When he stopped in front of it, he was extremely irritated when the young man collided with him.

"Will you please watch where you are going? What do you mean they change? If they end up the way I like them, why do you consider that worthy of a warning?"

He merly raised an eyebrow at his tone, half tempted to snap back at the black robed man but didnt. There was no telling what a wizard would do when angry.

He shrugged at the man's question "I dunno, Just thought it might be shocking or something"

Snape rolled his eyes. He had had quite enough of this insouciant young man. Shocking or not, he was eager to enter his chamber and escape his companion's presence. It was an extremely surprising thing to be bodily abducted to an alien world. One needed time to adjust on one's own.

"Oh, did you? Well, I'm fairly certain that, no matter how appropriately I decorate my rooms, I shall not be shocked, dismayed, distressed, or in any other way put out by them."

He slid the key into its lock, hearing an audible 'click' as the mechanism opened for him. Putting a hand on the knob, he turned to dismiss the other man.

"Well, Mr Cullen, it appears I must thank you for your assistance today. You found me in the wilderness, brought me to this place, answered my questions, and showed me my rooms. I intend now to take a rest, but perhaps we shall see each other later. Good day to you, sir."

With that he turned the handle of his door and prepared to enter.

Edward was starting to feel slightly awakwrd standing at this wizards side, gazing somewhat dreamlike at the closed door.

So it was sort a relief when the dark clothed wizard, snape edward reminded himself, his name is snape, basically told him to get lost.

"Your welcome..Uh I think"He said with a frown, nodding "If you need anything let me know"he prompted before turning tale and was down the hallway before the mortal could blink, leaving him to his devices.

Snape closed his eyes and shook his head briefly. Finally! He'd wondered if the boy would ever leave. Well, nothing for it but to see these mysteriously comfortable rooms of his. Pushing open the door, the Potions Master, or was that former Potions Master stepped inside, out of the glare of the sun and out of his first afternoon on Mirage.
