Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current mood: happy
Entry tags:active, day 33, gray harkness, ianto jones

Who: Gray and Ianto
What: Gray gets to meet Jack's partner
When: Late Morning
Where: The Mirage Library.
Status: Incomplete
Rating: PG (just to be safe).

Gray had decided to explore his surroundings a bit since everyone seemed nice and he felt fairly safe, and was happy he did when he found a library amongst the buildings. Gray had love to read as much as drawing before he was captured and the emperor's daughter (the youngest one...the nice one) had tried to further his reading and vocabulary when she could.

He looked at all the books, a bit wide eyed before smiling and exploring a good part of the library before a book caught his eye. Gray pulled it from the shelf and read a little of it before heading back to a collection of chair and seats, and snuggling down into a bean bag chair. He started reading in earnest, frowning when he came across something he did know. Soon there was a notebook and pen beside him and he wrote the words he didn't know down to look up later.

After the tenth word he wrote down, Gray got up and found a large dictionary that was a bit out of reach. Sigh he stretched up and with his good hand started wiggling the book further out so he could grab it proper.

Ianto caught the smile before Gray's face settled back. Ianto knew that look. It was one he wore often, when he hid himself from the world and didn't want anyone to know what he was thinking. Perhaps he and Gray were more alike than he knew. "I think a large part of that is because he's found you again," Ianto admitted.

Gray seemed to consider that before shaking his head, he really didn't have that high of an opinion of himself, disagreeing with the older man. He chewed his lip for a moment, hugging the dictionary a bit tighter to his chest.

"Only a small part of it..."

"You don't give yourself enough credit," Ianto said gently. "Letting you go was one of the most biggest, if not thee most biggest, things he's done that he regrets. He's very happy to see you again." Ianto eyed the dictionary Gray was holding. "Were you reading something?"

"I'm a reminder of that regret." Gray murmured. "Especially after what the older me did." The boy looked at the book in his arms and nodded. "Yes...But there' a lot of words I don't know."

"You know about that?" Ianto was a little startled. Jack had told him? Perhaps he'd done it in the hopes that he wouldn't do it in the future...

Ianto changed the subject, hoping to move onto something less awkward and more pleasant. "If you'd like, I could help you with them," he offered.

"I realized...he was hiding something and I asked him about it." Gray murmured softly. "I don't want to be that person...but what if I still do that?"

The boy glanced up at Ianto before dropping his gaze. "You'd...you'd really help me?"

"Well," Ianto said slowly, choosing his words with care. "Perhaps now that you know what happens, you can make the choice to not do it." Ianto wasn't even sure if that would work. It seemed when they were brought back to their own times, they lost their memories of this place... It happened to Jack, Gwen, and the Doctor as well so it couldn't have been just a one time thing. Still, hopefully it would bring some comfort to the child who hopefully wouldn't realize that in the future.

Ianto smiled, holding out a hand for the dictionary. "I would be delighted."

Gray studied Ianto's feature, an odd look on his own. There was something about how Ianto had said what he did that didn't ring right with the boy who survived on catching little nuisances in peoples behavior.

The boy looked down at the dictionary before handing it to Ianto. "Thank you."
