Who: Michiru and Haruka
When: Day 33, early morning
Where: The stables and then out riding
Status: Incomplete.
Warning: Pg-13 just in case.

Michiru had gotten used to getting up early, dawn preferably, and doing a bit of wandering while things were still quiet and peaceful. Since Haruka didn't share her love of mornings, she tended to let the blond sleep. Today however, she walked only to the restaurant, picked up a simple breakfast for two and returned to the room to wake Haruka up. Even with Haruka's normal unwillingness to get out of the bed, they both managed to make it up and out to the stables before too much of the morning had past.

The golems had already tacked up two horses by the time they arrived, which disturbed Michiru slightly. While she appreciated the convenience, the fact that the Planet had anticipated her desire before she'd even voiced it was more than a little annoying. Still, she was happy to note the golems had brought her the same horse from yesterday. Naming convention aside, she'd liked the gray mare. She took the offered reins from the golem and let the creature give her a leg up into the saddle.

She waited for Haruka to get mounted as well before urging her horse into a walk out of the stabling area. She waited for Haruka to catch up before asking "Anywhere in particular, or did you want to just ride?"

Michiru laughed, which caused her horse to start slightly. She took a moment to gently bring the animal back under control before giving Haruka another sideways glance.

"Perhaps. Or because I've been riding longer."

She better than anyone understood Haruka's desire for speed. Part of it was Haruka's senshi nature - the senshi of the wind could no more stay still than she could avoid the water. But it was more than that. She understood the freedom that came from doing something you were good at, something you did better than anyone else. And that desire for freedom had always attracted Michiru to her partner.

"The surroundings?" she asked, teasing "Or the company?"

Haruka's horse startled when Michru's did, and she tightened her grip on the reins just a bit to help calm it back down. "Not by much," she said. "I started my lessons only a few months after you began yours." But a few months could make quite a difference in level of skill, Haruka well knew.

She smiled at Michiru, a glint in her eyes. "Perhaps both," she said, winking at her partner. "We haven't really explored this new version of the Planet yet. It's not quite as nice as your ocean was, but it's not too bad."

"Nothing is ever as nice as ocean side" Michiru said, her tone mostly teasing, but there is a strong thread of longing in it as well, though probably only one who knew her as well as Haruka did would be able to tell. Haruka did have a point though. They hadn't explored this new configuration of the resort, and it wasn't like they had any more pressing matters. One of the few things truly enjoyable about this place.

"Perhaps a day of exploration then?" she said. There was the very smallest hint of suggestion in her smile, a slight twist of tone indicating she might not be talking just about exploring the resort. But before Haruka can respond to it, she set her heels into her horse's sides, urging it into a trot.

Haruka shook her head. "Of course not," she said. "At least, not for you." She missed her seaside, Haruka knew. She sent a mental request toward the Planet, asking for another beach resort on the following morning. If it really brought you what you wanted, perhaps Michiru would be able to wake up to the sound of lapping waves against the shore.

Haruka blushed slightly at the tone of Michiru's words. She coughed politely, and began to reply, but before she could get her thoughts together enough to say anything, Michiru had gone on ahead of her. "Oi!" she said. She urged her own horse into a trot. It gave a toss of its head and changed its gait almost reluctantly, but it started moving a little faster. Figured she'd get the horse that didn't want to go fast.

Oh, it was always so amusing to tease! Still the trot took a bit longer to accustomed herself to than the walk did, and she found herself having to focus on the rhythm, and posting right.

"Maa" she said, once she'd gotten the rhythm and was once again moving in tune with her horse. "This is always just a bit harder than I remember. And Haruka is the only person she'd admit something like that too. Perfection has always been too much of her image to act otherwise. "But it's faster, ne?"

Finally, Haruka had the gelding doing what she wanted it to. She pulled up level with Michiru just in time to hear her comment. "Something's difficult for Kaioh Michiru?" she said, teasing creeping into her voice. Her horse tried to slow down, and she fell back a pace before she was able to make it keep up again. "Faster? If only," she said. "Have you seen how stubborn this one is? It should have been your horse." She shook her head, smirking.

Michiru raised an eyebrow, and shifted her reins to one hand. The other hand she held out, palm up. "Riding crop please" Sure enough, a thin black riding crop appeared. She closed her fingers around it, and checked her horse's speed a bit so she could pass it to Haruka.

"Might help" she said blandly. However, amusement danced over her face at the thought of Haruka needing help with something speed related.

Haruka took the crop with a neutral expression on her face. She knew exactly how amusing Michiru found the situation, and that only served to make her more annoyed at her gelding. A swift tap with the crop spurred the beast into action, but not nearly as smoothly as a horse should move. It was going to be stubborn. Wonderful.

"So, where does the lady wish to go today?" Haruka asked, smiling at Michiru. "I'm sure there are trails through the trees, or up behind the resort that would be suitably picturesque rides. Or would you prefer to go out to the lake?" Even if they were going to just explore, it would be good to have a general direction in mind.

Michiru really hadn't thought much about where to ride, she'd just wanted to get out and do something more active than they had in the past couple of days. Still, when the path split, she steered her mount down the smaller side path.

"That goes down to the lake" she said, nodding towards the path she'd not turned down. "It's pretty, but I think this one goes up behind the resort. She wasn't sure, but there were far worse things than getting a little lost with Haruka.

Haruka hadn't been back far behind the resort. The trees kept her from exploring too much with her snowmobile before, and she hadn't felt like hiking up to see what was what. On horseback, it wouldn't be too bad - provided her gelding would actually do what she wanted it to. The path Michiru had chosen was more narrow than the main path, and the gelding was not pleased about this. Haruka held tight to the reins and delivered a tap with the riding crop, coaxing it along.

"Let's find out where it goes, then," she said, smiling at Michiru. "You lead." Michiru always led, so it was a token sentiment, but one that Haruka always felt the need to say.

The path she'd chosen was narrower, and Michiru had no qualms about riding single file. It would probably help Haruka's mount behave better anyway. Horses were herd creatures after all. The stubborn beast would probably show a different gate if it thought it was going to be left behind. She pressed her mare for a slightly extended trot, the better to make it up the gentle hill through the trees. Riding single file made it more difficult to talk, but when had she and Haruka ever really relied on words? They rode on in companionably silence for a while, before the trail opened up.. Michiru pulled her horse to a halt, and looked out at the long, narrow field. There was a path beaten across the grass, and even after the trail reentered the trees it looked flat. She looked back at Haruka, a wicked smile playing on her face.

"You want speed?" she said, and before Haruka could answer, signaled her horse forward , going immediately from a walk to a canter across the grass, her aqua hair streaming behind her.

Now that it was following Michiru's mare, the gelding seemed much more easily handled. So, it was content to follow another of its kind, but not people. Lovely. As they rode through the trees, Haruka looked around, drinking in the scenery. The resort seemed a lot bigger than she'd first thought. When the path opened onto a field, that drove the point home. They really did need to explore, see what was around. There might be something away from the buildings that could be useful in getting home.

Then, with barely a warning, Michiru was off across the field. "Oi!" Haruka called, shaking her head and chuckling. She looked down at the gelding. "Are you really going to let her show you up like this?" she asked it. She gave the horse another tap with the crop, and it started forward, first at a trot, then into a canter, and into a full-on gallop. Haruka smiled. Finally, it was showing some speed. She caught up to Michiru easily about half-way across the field. "What was that?" she asked as she passed her lover, her face the picture of innocence.

Michiru merely laughed as Haruka passed her and rose in her saddle, leaning over her horse's neck, encouraging the mare to pick up more speed. The mare obligingly slipped into a full gallop, seemingly determined to close the distance between herself and the gelding.

"I knew it!" she called as the distance narrowed to something shoutable.

Haruka glanced back, grinning to see Michiru gaining on her. "Knew what?" she called back. She laughed, then turned to her gelding. "Well, don't let them catch us. You'll never live it down!" The gelding kept running full-gallop. But the field was rapidly coming to an end. Reluctantly, Haruka pulled on the reins, slowing the horse down before they ended up running full-tilt into a tree. They slowed to a trot just before the path picked back up in the trees.
