[It's been some time since the world's magic has played in this way. But some of the eldest residents will probably notice some of the signs.

It all feels normal at first, as normal as life in Miracle Country can get. But people will start to feel off in some ways. Like something's missing... or more precisely, like they're losing something. Important memories, and the feelings attached to them, they're slipping away, shed in the form of magical feathers that people will lose here and there throughout the day. The way to recover these? Someone else has to pick them up for you.

When they do, they'll be sucked into a dreamlike state, along with the owner of the memory. You'll dive into a dark, empty place, only to watch at a distance whichever memory was lost. Only when it's been shared, will this memory return to where it belongs - and of course, while happy memories can be shared, some of them can be painful to experience again as they're recovered.

Then again, it'd be painful to lose them forever, right? Even the hurtful things in your past make you who you are now. So you might even end up seeking for someone to take a feather for you, to give those important memories back. And if you leave them alone, if you ignore them, maybe someone you don't want taking them will do it instead... the feathers might find their way into the wrong hands - any hands, as long as they can get back to you. They don't want to be separated, afterall.]

Some supernatural creatures would protest, no doubt, were any assessment of their character off by even the slightest margin.

[e__e Ie, don't worry; he knows better than to tell Mr Sensitive-About-His-Image that he's a softie.]

[Smiles a bit, despite herself.]

That's probably true of a lot of people, regardless. [And by people she means humans and non-humans alike.]

[It should be noted that Sebastian tells Lucifer he's a softie at least twice a week. But at least he knows the consequences of this action.]

Regardless, I know well what kind of person he is by now, and come this point his sentimentality does not surprise me as much.

[She fights back the very small smile. Despite Sebastian's relative judgement, she finds Luci's sentimentality to be very sweet. So.]

No, I think that'd be a little hard to miss.

["Sweet" is... one word for it.]

To put it lightly, surely. Knowing him for but five minutes--

[He doesn't get to finish that - no doubt very kind and insightful - comment before another feather conveniently begins see-sawing down nearby. Almost as if it wants to be noticed.]

Ah... again, it seems.

[Eyes it with a frown.]

Is it another one of mine? [She doesn't feel like she's missing anything...]

Considering the incredible subtlety of this world, that seems likely.

[Because, as previously established, the notion that Sebastian should have any important memories to miss is very silly.]

Shall we get it over with, then? If you do not mind.

[Assuming she doesn't disagree, he reaches out a hand to capture the feather, wondering with a sigh whether they'll be here all day, as if neither of them have better things to do--]

[As the memory starts playing, it quickly becomes clear that it's from when Lucifer first arrived in this world: his and Sebastian's first meeting.

No one utters the word "demon" or even "angel", but there's an immediate recognition between the two of them; there's "our kind" and "we" as opposed to "humans", Lucifer asking if Sebastian too left their home.]

[Well, considering her understanding of Lucifer's entire situation now, and her already admittedly quiet suspicion about Sebastian seeming more than he seems-- the absence of 'angel' and 'demon' isn't enough to leave her incapable of figuring out what's going on. She's-- surprised and not surprised?]

[-- wait.]

Goodness, treating an interaction like that like it is significant or interesting in any way...

[What, did someone dig through Sebastian's memories, all the way back to that day, because this was somehow the most poignant scene they could think of? Such a person could stand to find better things to do with their time, Sebastian thinks.

...Also, if he pretends like nothing maybe no one will focus on all that "we don't sound like we're human" talk in that memory.]

[Look, maybe a few months ago, before learning everything about Lucifer, maybe she'd be quick to take that line of interpretation and be satisfied with that.

Now, though, this memory's making some things a lot clearer, and certainly it makes more sense than anything else. (And really, pour one out for the concept of "HE'S A DEMON" making sense, sob, her life...).

She gives him a long, assessing look-- silent for a moment, not responding to whatever dismissive words he's saying, as she can see it for the deflection it is.]

[...]

... Really. [That's all she says. Really. That's what you're going with?]

[Yes, well... In his defense it's very, very difficult to explain away his true identity once someone's aware that "demon" is a possibility.

Sebastian sighs, meeting her gaze and holding it. Fine, then:]

Find you riddles in it that need explaining? ["Yes, I'm not human. Are you surprised?"]

I... [sighs.] I honestly shouldn't be surprised, in hindsight.

[Because Sebastian's awesome superiority, too great to be human, shines through, naturally.]

I apologise for keeping it from you, of course, [he says, sounding only so regretful...]

People have so many ideas of my kind, after all.

[Honestly, once she processes it more, she might start to freak out about it. For now, it's just kinda-- "whatever, this might as well happen." If he was very bad, she assumes Lucifer would have said or done something by now... right?]

[... and then again, her roommate back home is a demon, so. Adult life is weird.]

And is that the only reason you're keeping it from others?

[......Well, he gave Sebastian a kitten. That counts as doing something. Lucifer tried.]

[Anyway. Sebastian shakes his head no:]

Not the only one, ma'am. My young master asked for it not to be made known, as well. [Sebastian is very considerate, you see, of his child master's feelings and wishes.]

As a rule, I tell no lies, [a rule which is only in place because Ciel forbids him from lying, but who's counting...] and yet I realise that keeping this fact about myself hidden can be seen as dishonesty.

[He doesn't sound sorry, exactly, as much as the apology might be implied in his words-- rather, it's more of a matter-of-fact explanation.]

[Sighs out.]

Well.

[It's hardly the first time someone's been dishonest to her, and in general she hates being lied to... but it isn't like this is a situation with Lucifer really. It's not equivalent even if a small part of her feels uneasy.]

[Still. She trusts Lucifer, too, and he's never done or said anything to imply that she or anyone should stay away from Sebastian. So despite what he is, and that sense of inevitable alarm, she isn't about to grab for her gun or the pitchforks.]

Much as I hate to admit it, I guess I can understand that reasoning.

The reasoning of acquiescing to a child's wishes for normalcy?

[he asks, tone very gentle-- should Chloe feel the slightest bit bad for doubting Sebastian's intentions even a little, well. Clearly that's on her.]
