[It's been some time since the world's magic has played in this way. But some of the eldest residents will probably notice some of the signs.

It all feels normal at first, as normal as life in Miracle Country can get. But people will start to feel off in some ways. Like something's missing... or more precisely, like they're losing something. Important memories, and the feelings attached to them, they're slipping away, shed in the form of magical feathers that people will lose here and there throughout the day. The way to recover these? Someone else has to pick them up for you.

When they do, they'll be sucked into a dreamlike state, along with the owner of the memory. You'll dive into a dark, empty place, only to watch at a distance whichever memory was lost. Only when it's been shared, will this memory return to where it belongs - and of course, while happy memories can be shared, some of them can be painful to experience again as they're recovered.

Then again, it'd be painful to lose them forever, right? Even the hurtful things in your past make you who you are now. So you might even end up seeking for someone to take a feather for you, to give those important memories back. And if you leave them alone, if you ignore them, maybe someone you don't want taking them will do it instead... the feathers might find their way into the wrong hands - any hands, as long as they can get back to you. They don't want to be separated, afterall.]

[...Then he chuckles lightly.]

--Strange as it is to say, I believe I understand that sentiment in a way, miss Chise.

[Not wanting not to be completely alone, no, but anything being better than the ennui of feeling numb.]

Oh... I'm glad. I wasn't sure if I was explaining myself very well, in the end.

But then again, such things are complicated things, I suppose.

Complicated things as emotions cannot be well understood has someone not experienced them themselves, I would say, quite regardless of how well they are explained.

[Hence why it's "strange" that Sebastian should understand it even a little - he's certainly never longed for love or company, after all.]

Yes, that does seem true. It'd be like trying to describe colors to someone who's never seen them before, I think. [How do you describe 'red', for example?]

That seems an apt--

[He doesn't get to finish the sentence before a few additional feathers see-saw through the air, conveniently closeby as if they're trying to signal something (if one subscribes to the possibility of sentient feathers in this ludicrous world).]

Ah. Feel you, by chance, as if you are still missing memories, miss Chise? [Up for round two of this nonsense?]

Ah-- I don't know. I guess I must be, if these are here. [Because surely the possibility of Sebastian missing memories is out of the question.]

[In any case, she's reaching out to touch one of the feathers with a small sigh.]

[Obviously out of the question - the possibility doesn't even occur to Sebastian either.

(Sebastian is always very smart like that.)

Instead, he watches as Chise reaches for the feather, thinking to himself that if he must be stuck watching memories, there certainly could be duller ones than those of miss Chise. All in all, it could be wor--]

[This time, the quiet of the dreamscape - engulfing them once more - is broken by laughter, as a strange shape, all jagged swirling shadows, tears an oddly dressed group of people apart limb by limb. The scene shifts: the shadows melt into Sebastian, eyes glowing red, pledging his loyalty to his new master.]

[To say she's shocked is an understatement-- not necessarily for what she's seeing, but that she's seeing Sebastian's memories. In fact, for the first few moments of the memories laying out, she's confused if only because she can't immediately place what memory of hers she's witnessing.

Once it's clear it's Sebastian she's-- just watching. She doesn't particularly seem shocked or disgusted or devastated by what she's seeing. On the contrary, she looks curious, or as if something... well, suddenly makes sense. (Sorry Sebastian, there was always something different about you.)]

This is...

[Oh. On the one hand, these are nice memories, and there's certainly a pleasure to relieving them again. Sebastian spends some time initially staring at the unfolding memory just as Chise is - not even someone like him is completely unaffected by suddenly having memories forcefully returned.]

[On the other hand, there's the awareness that these memories have an audience, which rather taints the experience (it's been so long since he got to slaughter anyone, and now he can't even reminiscence in peace. that's just typical).

Thus, it isn't long before his surprised expression fades and he schools his features into something more dispassionate - displeased with how this is turning out. Outwardly he still watches the memory, but his senses are trailed on Chise, mindful of her reactions. He doesn't move, doesn't try to explain, doesn't even answer her half-finished sentence-- instead waiting for her to react. If Sebastian has Chise pinned down correctly, she's not at all the worst choice for witnessing something like this... but will she be that accepting?

(Hooker boots are a completely normal fashion choice when you're a eldritch abomination of smokey shadows, by the way. "Different" nothing.)]

[It's true that on the surface, she doesn't appear to be reacting at all-- just watching this unfold, trying to make sense of what she's seeing. Once the realization seems to click into place, there are some of the emotions likely expected: surprise, certainly, maybe some flicker of horror that fades just as quickly (it isn't the first time she's seen a supernatural being shred things apart, after all). It isn't acceptance on her face beyond that curiosity, but maybe a small level of understanding-- ah. This makes more sense to her than Sebastian being just a normal human. He never seemed so to her, after all.]

[She thinks, maybe distantly, that she should maybe be more scared, more terrified-- but she isn't, really. Maybe she's gotten used to Elias and the world he lives in, or maybe she somehow understands instinctively that he isn't going to do something like that here, or to her. Maybe there's that small acceptance that even if he did, it'd just be an inevitability in the face of what her curse means for her.]

[As the memory fades and they return to the familiar landscape of Miracle Country, she continues to stare at the place where the memory Sebastian was just a moment ago before slowly turning to look at him.]

You are... some sort of fae?

One could use that word, [Sebastian answers, in his usual soft-spoken tone even though his facial expression remains blank. Should Chise turn towards him, she'll see his eyes are red - like in the memory. Usually that's a scare tactic; now it's... honesty, or some such.

Sebastian doesn't move, doesn't advance, keeping his hands politely clasped behind his back.]

More precisely, I am a demon. We hail from a world different from that of humans.

[Nods, processing what he's saying. The red eyes don't disturb her-- if anything, it only reminds her more of Elias and his eyes.]

I see. [Well, she's not running for the hills yet. She tilts her head as she studies him.] But you've been living in the human world for some time now?

[He nods.]

I have been in my master's employ for three years now. [During which he has stayed in the human world the entire time.]

Double that time, if one counts my time in this world.

I see... [She says it again, softer this time. Well, for someone only in the human world for six years, he's certainly handling it better than what she knows of Elias' earlier times wandering the world.]

I'm sorry. If you'd had a choice, I'm sure you wouldn't have wanted me to see that.

Well... what is done is done, no? There is hardly any point in lamenting about it.

The better focus, to my mind, is how we move on from here. I have quite appreciated your assistance at the bakery, after all.

[It would be a pity if Chise left, he means. ...He also means it'd be unfortunate if she'd choose not to keep quiet about this, but let's put it in low-stakes terms first.]

You don't want anyone to know about you. [Clearly you're not... as obvious as Elias is.]

[Well, that's just as well, really. No use in taking it slow if it's unnecessary.]

Having no one whatsoever know is already a failed project - a few people besides you know already. [And, you know, they're apparently fine not telling on him. So there's that.]

Yet I cannot help but assume were everyone here to know, many would be frightened. More importantly, it would reflect badly upon my master.

[The demon who apparently wants to eat his master's soul obviously cares so sincerely about said master's image.]

I think I understand. [Elias disguises himself to look human in certain circumstances, after all. She understands the reasons behind it, at least somewhat.]

With so many different people here, from different worlds and with different relationships with magic and the supernatural, it'd be understandable that some might not know what to do with such knowledge...

Oh, please do not misunderstand me: even if a person were perfectly knowledgeable about my kind, I would not fault them for being frightened. Quite the opposite: fear of demons is wise, I would say.

But you are correct in that many likely would not know what to do with such knowledge. For instance, I do imagine many would have concerns regarding my master.

[And they'd try to save him from Sebastian, and other tiresome, inadvisable things... and, frankly, no one wants that nonsense.]

Oh, you would be surprised at what gossip people will seem fit to spread under the delusion that they are "helping". ...But thank you; I do very much appreciate it.

[And he trusts she is smart enough to know they'd have to have Words if she went and decided to do something stupid.]

May I, then, count on your continued assistance at the bakery? [She won't run for the hills? ...He gives a light shrug, and adds, almost like an afterthought:]

Should you have questions or concerns before deciding, I will do my best to answer them.
