[It's been some time since the world's magic has played in this way. But some of the eldest residents will probably notice some of the signs.

It all feels normal at first, as normal as life in Miracle Country can get. But people will start to feel off in some ways. Like something's missing... or more precisely, like they're losing something. Important memories, and the feelings attached to them, they're slipping away, shed in the form of magical feathers that people will lose here and there throughout the day. The way to recover these? Someone else has to pick them up for you.

When they do, they'll be sucked into a dreamlike state, along with the owner of the memory. You'll dive into a dark, empty place, only to watch at a distance whichever memory was lost. Only when it's been shared, will this memory return to where it belongs - and of course, while happy memories can be shared, some of them can be painful to experience again as they're recovered.

Then again, it'd be painful to lose them forever, right? Even the hurtful things in your past make you who you are now. So you might even end up seeking for someone to take a feather for you, to give those important memories back. And if you leave them alone, if you ignore them, maybe someone you don't want taking them will do it instead... the feathers might find their way into the wrong hands - any hands, as long as they can get back to you. They don't want to be separated, afterall.]

It is meant to be deeply and meaningfully symbolic, no doubt.

[Someone out there thinks they're so clever and original.]

Right. I'm going to stick with the whole "they want us to fuck birds" thing.

["Fucking" as a verb. Here he thought it was the usual uncouth profanity, but now we're being vulgar instead.]

[It kind of worked both ways, in fairness.]

[Snorts.] Never go to Fillory. There are people fucking all kinds of animals there.

Well, tastes will differ...

[The borderline furry is one to talk]

It seems a colourful place, certainly.

[Penny I'm sorry, did you mean for that to be a cutting remark? Clever commentary?]

Ah... even more so than here?

[Instead, you get the full force of Sebastian suddenly thinking fiLLORY SEEMS LIKE A MOST LOVELY PLACE AND HE'D REALLY, REALLY LIKE TO VISIT.]

Ah, my face...?

[Why do so many people have trouble with his perfectly handsome face? Ciel's mother-in-law also says Sebastian looks creepy... He doesn't get it.

This is why cats are lovely, he thinks - they don't care about superficial things like people's faces, and still they manage to uphold such effortless beauty and grace themselves.]

You mean it is that obvious, just from my expression?

[Sebastian tilts his head, giving Penny a long look. Is he missing something? Such a strong reaction to a facial expression alone doesn't seem quite right... Hm.]

As you say. [Hmm.]

[Don't worry buddy, your answer will be legitimately answered since, at that very moment, a little feather floats down between them and lands on Sebastian and launches them into a memory--

A nice, convenient memory full of lots of exposition that explains exactly why Penny should be so "good at reading people." Actually, the entire memory is about Penny arguing with Quentin about his ability to read minds, and how Quentin should get better at putting up some wards if he doesn't want Penny hearing his every goddamn thought.]

[Gee, how convenient. It definitely explains some things. Sebastian silently observes, eyes wide in surprise, as the scene unfolds.]

[And then he's silent for a few long moments.]

...Goodness me. [How interesting. Suddenly a few things make sense.

And, see, Sebastian is fairly accomplished at hiding his thoughts and emotions, but suppressing them? Much less so, even with the recent revelations. There's a strong, hostile string of thoughts--
such a thing is possible?
Inconvenient.
Threat.
Should
do something about it.]

[Huh. Well. His memory of that has returned to him-- not that he forgot completely his ability to read minds, obviously, but it at least puts it more into focus.

And yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah he's not a huge fan of that thought process rn.]

Jesus, what the fuck dude?

[Stop that. --After a momentary pause, Sebastian's shoulders tense up somewhat as he smiles.]

My apologies, Mr Adiyodi; hitherto I had not realised there would be anything bothering you.

[At least there's absolutely no thought to indicate he means to follow up on that initial thought-- it's an instinctual reaction for a violence-inclined creature like Sebastian.]

[Mrr. At least it's not the first time he's heard thoughts about someone wanting to kill him, so yay? Anyway.]

[Crosses his arms.] Well, whatever. I don't fucking advertise it but yeah, I can read thoughts. I don't try to but most people here don't know how to ward off their fucking heads.

[Sebastian is sure he can't imagine why people would want to kill Penny. Ah, in a different situation it'd be a quick and easy solution...]

Ah, and if meanwhile you yourself do not know how to stay out of people's heads... [is that meant as criticism? answer: this is sebastian. what do you think] certainly, that would be bothersome.

Now, these wards. Would you be so kind as to tell me about them?

[Ie, teach him. Now.]

[CASUALLY SKIPPING RIGHT OVER THAT CRITICISM. Whatever man, you don't know shit.]

I dunno man, I can try. The magic in my world doesn't really translates to other worlds, much less someone like you. [Demon... person....]

[/knows nothing

Also: lovely, so Mr Adiyodi has known this entire time what Sebastian is?]

"Someone like me", you say... [It's not like Sebastian doesn't have powers - magic, he supposes you could call it - far beyond human abilities or even comprehension (if he does say so himself). With that said, granted, he's encountered humans here with powers he himself doesn't have...]

However that may be, I should very much like to hear about them.
