open 🌸 all day
[Spring has come to Miracle Country. After months where the only tree in bloom is the sakura at the center of the park, suddenly everything is in bloom all across the islands. The sun is shining, birds are singing, and life seems just a little bit happier.

All throughout today, sakura petals will be falling from the sky, gentle like snow. There might even be the occasional feathers falling, too. But where did those come from?

April 1st is a special day for Miracle Country. To celebrate that special day, the quests that usually hang from the sakura are more abundant than ever. Usyagi across the island today will approach you with particular quests and part-time jobs, as if to invite you to participate…

You might receive a quest that asks for the following:

Enjoy a drink! Lucifer’s Bar is open all day with samples of different sake and other drinks. Enjoy a sip, or two, or three. Getting drunk is an April 1st tradition!

Help out! Part-time jobs are traditional and surely someone needs help today with their job or tasks at hand!

Wear a kimono! There’s a booth set up in the bazaar with a wide array of kimono, yukata, and Chinese-style dress to try on. So many colors and patterns, it’d be a shame if these weren’t worn. There are also accessories to choose from, such as jewelry, shawls, and eye-patches.

Bake a cake! It’s a certain girl’s birthday today and it’s such a shame that she’s made to work today at the Cherry Blossom Café… Why not stop by and help her bake a cake to celebrate?

Learn to fight! Head to the fighting arena and you’ll see a wide array of swords. There’s a mini-course set up there with dummies that need to be fought with obstacles to avoid. If you complete the course, you might even get to keep the sword!

Sing! It’s alright if you aren’t confident in your ability to sing, but no matter where you are today, there might appear a karaoke machine. No cheating and singing just to yourself, you’ll have to find a friend!

Collect the flowers! With so much in bloom today, it’d be a shame not to make a beautiful bouquet to give to someone special, wouldn’t it?

Make a teddy bear! There’s a booth set up in the bazaar to make your own teddy bear. Teddy bears are, of course, a great tradition and a lovely gift to give to someone special. Maybe you’ll get lucky and someone will name your gift after you…

Take your time! The museum today has a beautiful display of all sorts of clocks. They start out normal at first, but the further into the display you go, the more complicated the clocks appear, the more connected they seem, and the more they seem to call to you, too— mistakes you’ve made, things you’d change, things you’d want to take back… Oh, maybe Miracle Country wants you to think about that too much?

The quests might not be required. But, knowing this place… perhaps it’s a better idea to go along with it. These will be available throughout the month, too, so perhaps you want to save it for later. For each quest completed, you’ll of course be awarded the konpeito.

It’s time to celebrate. What’s the worst that can happen?]

[Because how are you going to get better if you don't! Or something.]

Yeah, the Usyagi told me I had to, and she's a nice kid, why wouldn't I?

[Right, but what's so hard about being perfect at something right from the start?

"She's a nice kid, why wouldn't I?" Because miss Kinomoto deserves better than to be served a disaster of a cake and have her kitchen rendered a war zone, Sebastian privately thinks. Apparently some people don't have the insight to reach such a conclusion themselves.]

Yes, well... [What he thought in the brackets above.] Clearly, however, this will not do.

["Tried" isn't good enough. What to do, then, if he can't just take over and fix everything.]

[Sakura deserves better, Sebastian is right there. But hey, he tried, that has to count for something, right? Sighs.]

Yeah, I know. [He does some quick gestures with his hands for a spell to slowly clean this whole mess. That's a start, at least.]

[.......

That feel when you could literally just snap your fingers and have everything sparkly clean, but you're so conditioned to doing everything by hand that you're. almost a little taken aback that, right, it's possible to clean by magic.]

Oh my... I had not realised your magic had such uses.

[See, isn't magic such a great thing.]

Yeah, it can do a lot of things. I told you I could clean it up.

And can it make a cake?

They said I had to make it myself. I assumed it meant without magic.

Is that so?

[Huh. What an odd way of thinking - one's magic being separate from oneself?]

Some direction should be fine, don't you think? [As in, someone telling you what to do (that's what Sebastian is offering to do here, by the way).]

You would still manually do everything with your own two hands, after all.

[In which everything baking and household-related in this world is Sebastian's responsibility.]

Okay, yeah, that could work.

[Better than him accidentaly starting a fire or something.]

Very good.

[He considers for one moment, and then claps his hands together once - "okay, let's start; pay attention".]

Firstly, it is out of the question to bake with a kitchen still this much of a mess.

Is it possible to quicken the spell? If not, please get to cleaning it up by hand, as well.

[Chop chop, they don't have all day.]

I can make it clean faster. I think.

[He redoes the spell, the hand gestures slightly different this time. By the time he's done, the kitchen should be completely clean. Better now?]

[Better, yes. Acceptable. Sebastian nods his approval (that'll do for praise. One shouldn't overdo it with positive feedback for minor things).]

Well, then. You will wash your hands thoroughly, first of all. Have you a recipe already?

[Barely stops himself from rolling his eyes.]

Of course I'll wash my hands. [...] Uh, the recipe must be somewhere. I'll find it.

[You know those silent, judgemental looks Q was getting at the beginning of this thread?

They return. Well, no obvious, intense staring is happening - Sebastian just stays put and doesn't comment; waits patiently for Q to find said recipe. Who misplaces the recipe they're currently using, honestly.]

[If he were in Sebastian's shoes, he'd be judging himself too. Luckily he does find the recipe, it's just all dirty from his failed attempt at cooking.]

...Come on, you must have like at least a hundred different recipes for cake.

[Who ruins their own recipe like that, honestly.]

Something like that. [It might be closer to a thousand. Who knows.]

Would you prefer to use one of mine, then?

Sure, whatever. They didn't specify it had to be that recipe.

[Sebastian considers for a moment, tapping a finger against his chin. Then he gets out a small notepad and a fountain pen from his inner suit jacket (because you never know when you'll need such things) and quickly jots something down on it.]

A strawberry shortcake should work well, no?

[...Too bad, he's already decided on that.]

Yeah, it sounds good. I think she'll like it.

[A nod.]

We will ensure it is to her liking. [And by "we" he mostly means "I".]

Here. [The recipe. He wrote it down from memory. He holds it out for Q. ]

[Half-turns to give Q a look. One that, very clearly, communicates "what".]

Well, if that is what you would call it.

[He was thinking more "subpar".]
