WHO: Paulie Muller and Theo Chastain.
WHAT: Pretty much the most distressing thing ever. (aka Theo discovers what's been causing her to feel sickly)
WHERE: Their apartment.
WHEN: Backdated to Saturday!
RATING: Oh, there will be language. Definitely.
STATUS: Incomplete.
It had not been a good day. After a week or so of feeling decidedly off, Theo had begun to wonder vaguely in the back of her mind if the cause was something more than just the flu. She’d considered making a doctor’s appointment, but her sense of denial had refused. Seeing Althea had been her way of avoiding the reality of the doctor’s office without disregarding the importance of her health. Unfortunately, that particularly visit hadn’t really helped to clear her concerns.
Rarely did Theo loathe the fact that Paulie could hear her thoughts whenever he chose to do so. However, she had spent her entire day doing her very best to cloud her mind with as much nonsense as possible to keep him from zeroing in on what was actually bothering her. It wasn’t as though she particularly enjoyed not telling him, but more that she was stressed enough on her own and didn’t want to pull him into it unless it was necessary.
It had been an impulse to stop by the pharmacy while out on her walk with Jim Gordon. She’d been paying for that impulse ever since, having spent most of the last hour sitting on the bathroom counter and staring daggers into the little box that loomed beside her. Finally, she’d told herself to suck it up.
Twenty minutes had passed before she actually built up the courage to check the results. The response was immediate, her heart sinking so deeply into her stomach that it stole her breath on the way down. A violent string of curses escaped her before she could help it, both vocally and in her mind.
After very rapidly exhausting the rest of the tests in the small box and expressing another series of curses, Theo had escaped the bathroom and curled up in bed with her dog, overwhelmed and fighting the urge to scream. Her mind revolted, clearing itself except for a flurried mix of panicked frustration, and she did her best to turn back time and start the day over.
