The hurricane did the impossible. It picked up in force and speed, catching all of them off guard. The last they knew it was hitting the Carolinas and maybe travel up the coast, but by the time it got to New York it was supposed to have dissapated. Instead it was bearing down on them fast. They hadn't had time to evacuate.

Not that she would have. She wouldn't have left her darlings, but she would have had a little more time to prepare. There wasn't much she could do for her apartment. The windows didn't have shutters, and she wouldn't have crawled out onto the ledge to hammer plywood over them. The most she could do was move the cages into closets in case the wind blew in the windows. Fortunately, they were stackable, and once she had all of them set she moved chairs or tables in front of the closet doors for more security.

Then she did the ridiculous. She took to the streets. She knew better than to wear loose clothing, sticking to jogging clothes and no coat. When she gained the outside she was shocked. The streets were emptied of people, and on a Friday night even this early it was unheard of. There were the occasional police cruiser with the driver on their speaker telling people to get off the streets but she didn't hear them. The wind drowned out everything kicked up and focused as it was between the buildings on the grids that were the city's streets. What rain there was already became small projectiles born on that wind and she sneered as it stung her skin. Taking shelter in the entrance to her building she waited for the cop cars to clear out then took off running towards Central Park. She had to secure the specimens in her lab, check the displays and most importantly, make sure that scale Seth brought her was safe.]

So I don't know about you but I'm not even going to try to edge Huginn or Muninn out into the streets. It's a madhouse out there!
