  • cynthia1960: The perfect storm around identity, gender, and social networking - We don't live in Brin's transparent society. Transparency only works when there's no disparity in power or privilege. As long as there's an imbalance in power based on gender, sexual orientation, class, race, etc. ad infinitum, complete transparency can allow persons with power to inflict all sorts of negative consequences on those who don't have it. -

  • zellieh: Signal Boost:: privacy issues with Google Buzz - Unfortunately, Google, who are clearly idiots, have made all profiles public by default -- which means people can see your real name if you used it for your account -- and they can also see the names of the people on your list of followers, since that's included on your public profile! -

  • lunabee34: the neighbors complain about the noises above - What should a good sex scene do? What should the purpose of sex in fanfic be? What do you do to keep sex scenes fresh and original as a writer? What would you like to see more of in sex scenes? -

  • impertinence: abuse in fiction! - Of course, there's not a single source in the world that can tell you how to write an abused person correctly, because there's no definitive story. How much the abuse will affect the character is something that no one can unequivocally judge, but it is undeniable that the abuse will have some sort of effect - and not always in predictable ways. -

  • damned_colonial: Help me, fannish hivebrain - It's easy enough to find fic in any given fandom, but let's say I want to find the best fanfic that shows a certain trope or kink. How would I go about finding it? For bonus points, once I find it, how can I cut down the list of resulting fics to just those in fandoms I'm familiar with? -
