[...] This is why a book will often work as a whole despite its weaknesses in bits, and why a WIP will suffer in comparison if not followed by subsequent chapters lickety-split. It's because the reader now has time to think. Which is BAD! You don't want the average reader to start thinking. You want them to be yanked into your world and mesmerized by what you write. -

  • [info]tishaturk: TV and movie vids - I want to try to articulate a few general thoughts about TV and movie vids. I'm particularly interested in the reasons that vidders make (and viewers watch) TV and movie vids, and in the conditions that govern viewer responses to them. -

  • synecdochic: Writing meta Q&A, round two, part two - Now, the problem is, there's really no hard-and-fast rule -- at least none that I've found -- about how to stagger your various plots and subplots. Some people say that the best thing to do is to have the traditional five-part structure with the emotional plot and the A-plot, and then have the B-plot and C-plot overlapping, so that (for instance) the rising action of the C-plot is starting just as you're hitting the climax and falling action of the C-plot, so that the peaks are staggered. -
