  • [info]sidewinder: A poll for fan-fiction writers: where would you stick it? - A friend and I are looking at fan-fiction archives (as well as places like LJ which aren't *necessarily* archives by default but used as such by some writers) in terms of marketing and writers associations/impressions of various sites. -

  • [info]frogspace: The slashy ROMANCE that took over my weekend [German entry] - Ich rede hier von Folgen, weil alle anderen das auch tun, und weil hier etwas ganz eigenartiges in Bezug auf Canon abgeht, das mehr Ähnlichkeit mit der Idee von Canon in RPF als FPF zu tun hat, obwohl Verbotene Liebe eine Fernsehserie ist. -
    (tags: canon slash)

  • [info]furiosity: oh, for fuck's sake. - What the fuck is it with people signing up for a writing competition and then whining when their stories in are *GASP* judged? -
    (tags: concrit hp reviewing)

  • [info]rahirah: A practical guide to hooking the Sue-wary reader - Where possible, consider co-opting a canon character. There are zillions of minor roles who never have more than a brief cameo in canon. Developing one of them into a fully-rounded character will give you the best of both worlds - all the fun of creating -

  • [info]pir8fancier: More thoughts on critique - I'm going to try to articulate WHY I don't mind critique and why I think it's a critical tool to improving your writing. -

Um. I'm not quite sure what you want me to do. Or even if you want me to do anything.

I wasn't reading Metafandom very regularly, because it always seemed to link to livejournal posts only, so the discussion was irrelevant.

Then I realised (suddenly) that sometimes Metafandom links to posts on livejournal even though there is actually a mirror post on insanejournal.

But [info]fairestcat said it would be too much trouble to check for mirror postings. So I went back to reading it only sporadically, as - shorn of its ability to link to interesting discussions - it's not of as much value.

When I was looking at Metafandom earlier today, I noticed again there was a post that I happened to know had a mirror on insanejournal. I suggested again that it would be possible to check posts quickly just to see if they did have mirrors, and use the appropriate link for IJ on IJ, JF on JF.

Again, [info]oulangi said that would be too much time and trouble (it takes about a minute per post, less if in fact there is no mirror).

I suggested that if I find the posts mirrored, (since I find metafandom far more useful as a community when it links to interesting discussions, not just interesting posts) and posted the corrected links in a comment, wthen updating the post with the corrected links shouldn't take too much time and trouble.

If you guys don't agree, and feel that metafandom isn't for linking to discussions or isn't useful as a true mirror site, or just don't have the time to paste in the better links where available, I guess I can keep posting them as comments.
