LOG: GARRICK & EDITH

GARRICK + EDITH
FEB 11 | MERCY BREWING CO. | MEDIUM

Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale of the moonlight?
⚠ BDE | Drinking | Sexual Tension | TBA

It had been over a few weeks that Garrick had run into Edith, and they had ended up agreeing on a date and place to meet to go over the final jib of their mutual financial agreement. For Garrick, the majority of these connections came down to business and what could potentially be useful to him and his coven. Everything always came back to what would be the best situation for Garrick Warren, and surely having this pretty kitty in his pocket could always have its benefits whether that was business-related or not?

Mercy Brewing Company seemed to be the best spot to start with for the night, it was a mutual territory (although technically owned by the Warrens) it was a public spot. Garrick still had to get a feel for Edith and her potential motives as well before he could invite her to his home and safe place. He was very much into his privacy and keeping it that way, private.

Easy to spot him, seeming to just suck the air out of the room. Standing ever-so poised the main bar in a tailored suit of black. No tie as he was trying to appear more casual and a pair of black polished dress shoes in leather. His icy blue gaze was fixated on the door with a glass of red wine in his hand as he had been waiting on her arrival so he could meet her at the door or at least cut her off.

Garrick may have been trying for more casual, but Edie certainly was not. Her hair had been done in perfect, soft waves cascading down the sensual curve of her back and revealed the long length of her neck. As for her black dress, it scooped low enough to bare her delicate décolletage, cut below the knees at a modest length, but clung to every inch of her body. If she was going to play with the devil, she might as well look like one herself.

Tonight, Edie would forego whatever control she had to feed into stupid curiosity and venomous desires. She had mentioned Garrick to her brother, saw the expression that crossed over Clay’s face, and Edie knew that there was good reason for it. Garrick was a bad decision, and the thought caused a certain tightening below her naval. Unease? Excitement? Probably both.

Her purse was tucked under her arm as she sauntered into the brewery, her heels so long and thin you could probably knit a sweater with them. It didn’t take long to spot Garrick, and when she had, she could feel the familiar, skeptical rise of her eyebrow accompanied by a slow grin as she approached him. She eyed the clock for the time. “I hope you weren’t waiting too long for me.”

To say that Edie had surprised Garrick was an understatement. She looked to be quite a vision tonight, with icy waves of hair that were a stark contrast to the midnight color of her dress against her skin. All the skin she seemed prepared to show off along with the delicate curves of her feminine body. Again, he would be lying to have said her beauty was not something easy to brush off. Not entirely one to mix with others that were not of pure bloodlines of witchcraft and one to be sure that Garrick knew of every witch in Mercy Cove. However, tonight he overlooked this fact.

Edie was not a fool, he could read the conflict in her eyes and maybe that was something too that he found appetizing about her. She wasn't so blinded by his namesake and maybe even seemed nauseated by it. However, she was here and maybe even dressed to the nines just to show him up. Either way, Garrick was enjoying himself already. Did he make sure to be first anyway, why? It’s because inside the restaurant is unfamiliar territory and every gentleman’s obligation is to protect his lady companion in all unpleasant situations that may arrive.

Pushing off the bar counter as he downed the rest of his wine and left the glass behind as he moved toward her. His steps are deliberate and with direction. Met her halfway as he halted ahead of her and let that steely gaze drip down over her before returning to meet that grin with his own. "You'll find I'm a very patient man, Edith." Dragging the tip of his tongue over his canine before extending his hand to her. "Might I be so bold to say that you look, ravishing?" Taking her warm hand into his own as he lifted it to his lips, pressing a kiss to her knuckles.

"I reserved us a table, with a little more privacy." Well, there were benefits to owning the place too but he didn't need any distractions tonight either. Walking ahead of her as he tucked her hand over his arm. Escorting her to their candle-lit table that was tucked towards the back of the bar. Moving to pull her chair out for her. "Please," he insisted before tucking her in and moving to sit across from her and facing the exit.

Going on this date, despite every warning sign indicating her not to, probably made Edie more of a fool than if she had been ignorant. It felt like purposefully walking into a bear trap, just to see what it felt like. She watched as Garrick’s lips grazed over her knuckles, her stance poised and cold as he had done so. The gaze that bore into her was met with the same intensity, masked by a languid slack in her face. Although a losing fight, she’d make it a fight nonetheless. She did smile at the compliment, though. “Thank you,” she nodded. “You look very handsome yourself. You can almost keep up.”

She let him lead her to the table, sitting gingerly once the chair was pulled out of her. Edie took note of the table and the candle that perched in the center creating a soft glow of light. Really, she didn’t expect anything less of Garrick. “Private and romantic. Well done.” Another soft laugh pulled through her lips, gathering the hair that slipped over her shoulder and rolling it down her back. “Do we have personal performers as well, your highness?”

Those steel eyes glanced upward as he pressed his mouth to her knuckles, taking in the languid emotion on her face and that seemed to only cause Garrick to smile even more. Standing up as her hand was merely loosely caught in his own. "You're very welcome, Edith." Garrick lifted a brow at the compliment before giving a soft chuckle in response, "a battle I frankly do not mind yielding." That was genuine, as he didn't enjoy losing anything. However, he'd hold an exception for this.

Garrick led her to the table he had reserved as he tucked her chair in once she sat. Sitting across from her as he gave a wolfish smile to her comment. "Not too much?" Garrick mulled over the idea before pulling a bottle of wine from the polished stand that sat beside the table. Popping the cork free as he poured himself another glass before doing so for Edie. Setting the bottle down on the tabletop as he sat back into his chair and set his attention back on her. "Oh no Edith, that would be my obligation to entertain you."

A charming smile that read all the warning signs as he carefully took the stem of his glass into his hand and lifted it in her direction. "I'd like to personally thank you for considering my invitation, and making it worthwhile." Eyes skimming over her again before taking a sip of his wine once she had permitted a clink against it.

Edith. Surprisingly, Edie didn’t wrinkle her nose at the full use of her name. It rang differently when Garrick said it, rang in a way that she’d never admit she liked. He made it sound forbidden. She laughed at the question, looking around as if seeing if anyone was nearby, and then leaned in whispering as if not wanting anyone to hear. “Even if it was, I think you’d like it that way.” She had a feeling that Garrick liked a statement—a subtle statement, the kind that seemingly took very little effort. And it did, Garrick was effortless in every movement, and every spoken word made. Edie half hated it.

She clinked the glasses together, bringing it to her lips and swallowing slowly, aware of his unyielding gaze over her. Her tongue ran over her lips, preemptively preventing a red ring to stain. “Making it worthwhile?” Edie echoed, amused and curious. “Well, then. You’re not very hard to please.” She leaned forward, perching her chin on her hand. “I, on the other hand, am.”

Garrick watched Edie with great amusement as he leaned into the table as well, the soft warm light of the candle touching his face. Almost making it appear even softer in their play of shadows. His smile crept sideways and long at her words. "Am I that transparent to you, Edith?" His words played with sarcasm and teasing. There was always a time and place for grand gestures but the majority of things that Garrick did were quite effortless and subtle and they could be, as they were quite direct too.

Catching every small movement of hers, a predator just keeping eye on his prey. Waiting for any sign of weakness. "I'm a man of very uncomplicated pleasures, Edith." Swirling the red liquid in his glass before taking it to his lips for a slow sip before lowering his glass at her remarks. His smile was now even wider and more deviant. "Is that so? Suppose it's a suitable thing that I do love a challenge."

"You know, Edith, You strike me as a woman that doesn't mind a little bit of danger-" Watched the memorizing swing of red liquid in his glass before looking up towards her from his brow. Those perilous eyes of blue.

The light upon Garrick’s face set a deceiving tone, making him misleadingly more approachable, softer, beneath what she knew was a thick layer of trouble. She shrugged her shoulders. “Only as much as you’re willing to be,” Edie responded carefully. Edie knew there were things about Garrick that she can pluck in her reach, but only what was handed to her—even she knew that what she observed about Garrick could only be what he allowed her to see. There was always more to people, especially to him.

Edie didn’t drink often, but she was nursing her glass generously, taking another slow, long pull, and allowing her throat to work down the sweet acridity of the wine. The dark pools of her eyes latched onto his, setting the glass down carefully as if not wanting to break it. At the comment, she did smile a little, feeling a certain quickening in her chest. There was no use to deny what the serpent already knew. “Am I that transparent to you, Garrick?” Long, slender fingers trailed up the stem of her glass idly, her eyes twinkling excitedly and tilting her head just slightly.

Very deceiving, and almost complimentary of him. But Edie would not be so easily fooled and Garrick was well aware of that. Surely he did not think Edie to be a dim-wit of a woman. She was strong and independent, and that had been what attracted him in the first place. "Fair assumption," pursing his lips for a moment before finding himself smiling quite genuinely again at that realization from her. Letting his gaze for just a moment to give Edie a small moment of relief from underneath its heaviness.

Upon hearing her retort and mimic his words he let a silent chuckle escape him as he nodded his head in defeat before setting his own glass down. "My dear Edith, I am well aware of my reputation. You can't be ignorant of it either. Forgive me for my sudden abruptness in conversation. Or, should I say for being too direct?" His fingers split between the stem of the glass as he pushed it aside from his view. "I say this, as you are here in my presence. Quaint, your motives are purely for the good of your students. That I do not forget, surely. However, I think perhaps you find me... interesting? Handsome, maybe?" An amused smirk found his face. "As much as I find you engaging and quite... stunning." The rest of them spoke more reservedly.

"Really, what I'm attempting to conclude is what are your motives, Edith? This very much captivates me." Licking his lower lip slowly to leave a sheen of moisture behind. Those desolate eyes of any color did not vary or waver away from her.

What were her motives? Edith had a difficult time deciphering this herself, hopefully putting this dilemma in the hands of Garrick to do with it what he would. Her eyes shifted from his, though still not without intentness. They lingered over where his fingers straddled the stem of his wine glass, then up the length of his arm, over the mouth that curved into the most devious of smirks. Amused. Taunting. Curious, in a way a lion might be with a feisty mouse. Edie didn’t answer for a moment, allowing the silence to dawdle between them as if wondering whether Garrick deserved to know the truth.

And what was that truth? It was that, sometimes, Edie liked to make poor decisions. Not only did Edie like to unfetter, but she liked consequence. She liked punishment.

Her eyes found his again, not quite sure what expression played on her face. Hesitance, thrill, perhaps even a hint of embarrassment that she did so desperately try to cull with a squaring of her shoulders. “I wanted to see for myself,” she responded finally, her chin tilting upwards. “To see if you lived up to your reputation.” A small, daringly coquettish smile slowly curled onto her lips, shrugging idly though nothing in the air gave the impression of such. “I came to play.”

Did Garrick anticipate the truth? Not entirely, but such a woman who enjoyed teetering on the edge of hazard didn't seem to be so shy about her true desires either. Maybe if anything he was inquisitive as to how she would so word this and answer his inquiry. She had been so much of a conversationist as she had been easy on the eyes. Both were quite endearing qualities to behold when it came to Garrick and holding his attention. Keeping his forefinger and middle along the bottom of his glass as he traced it into a small circle on top of the table.

This new expression she wore, very much captivated him. It held so much and yet was so vague. He liked the question it brought to mind. It wasn't very often that he found himself questioning things. Leaning back slightly in his chair as he continued to let his eyes drift along with the soft structure of her face. "And so you shall," he quipped before letting his hand drift from the bottom of his wine glass.

"To play," he spoke to himself before a chuff of amusement leave him as he lifted a hand to rest on his lips. "Very peculiar to me that you have no yield. Which makes me suspect, that there is something about you. Something about what you are. Intriguing. I'm more than inclined to play this game, and what would be the stakes I presume?" Cocking his head slightly. "Perhaps a more intimate setting."

Sometimes, Edie wished she could be a different type of daring—a woman unafraid of chaos, who lived off a line of shameless bedlam, but alas, she’d always been the sort to uphold a certain control of her character. Though, had she done away with said control, had she not cared about reputation and standing, perhaps the humiliation wouldn’t taste so sweet. “I’d like to know that myself,” Edie mused out loud, lifting the glass and draining it of its contents. A familiar twist began to knot in her stomach, excited by what seemed to be the inevitable pending of her ruin.

God, what the fuck was she thinking.

“As much as I like the candlelit setting, that sounds more appropriate,” she agreed. Edie stood, smoothed down her dress where it had risen from her seat, and sauntered over to stand in front of Garrick. Even as she hovered over him, even as she peered down at his handsome face beneath her long, dark lashes, she still felt, in an odd way, quite small. “I can’t promise I’ll follow your rules.” She grinned. “Though, I have a feeling you’ll like that.”

His vision danced between her own as she consumed the rest of her spirits, leaving her glass empty now. His head still titled as he continued to let his regard consume her. Edie's answer left very much unanswered but that was sufficient. He would pry another time on that definition but at the moment his focus had diverted. "As would I."

Garrick followed her as she rose from her seat and had taken to stand in front of him. Slowly bringing his eyes from her feet all the way to her face.

"I'm pleased you deem the same," a brow lifted upward. He hadn't thought she would be so apt to the conception without some banter but the rest of her words had found him that familiar sensation and he moved to stand to his feet. Not bothering to give her any space, just swallowing the rest of the room. That vibration of power enveloped him. "I have a sense you will also appreciate the consequences of this decision, Edith." Keeping that heady watch upon her, as weighty as it had ever been.

She could feel the air nearly sucked out of her when Garrick rose, towering over her, cornering her, and yet Edie’s chin remained tilted in a way that clearly emanated defiance—despite how futile it was. Edie loved to feign insolence, liked to believe that she had control over that wild side of her that she kept imprisoned and deny herself of her desires, but this moment was not a moment for that. Edie had made her decision.

And yet, she could feel the derision bubble in her at the same time, and she wondered how could you want punch someone and fuck someone so badly at the same time. But Garrick would be the type of person to elicit such a reaction. Her arms crossed over her chest, her eyes squinting just slightly and pushing out an amused laugh. “God, I bet so many women look at you and know immediately that you’re a bad decision.”

Glancing down to the countenance of defiance on Edith's face, that face yet so downy and benign. Tilting his head as he continued to stare down at her with those winter eyes of blue. That small moment of stillness soon ended with the cross of her arms over her breast. A quiet laugh through his nose, "that could conceivably be very accurate, Edith. However, I don't make myself completely available to be one." Perking a brow upward at her with speculation.

It was rather easy for him to take on many types of women, he didn't find himself very tempted by many. Rather enjoying the ones with spirit and life, opposed to those who easily bent to his will. Perhaps part of him had been mishandled by that statement. Pang of discomfort? Garrick wouldn't so easily show a sign of weakness unless it would benefit him to any degree. "Perhaps a stroll would be more appropriate?"

Edie did feel a pang of guilt for the assumption she made, quick and noticeable, despite what her current thoughts about Garrick were. It didn’t say much about her that she agreed to meet up with him because she was curious of his reputation, amongst other things she’d rather not recognise. Edie reached to grab her purse, tucking it away gingerly beneath her arm. “Well, let’s go then,” she nodded with a smile.

Edie walked into the open space of the brewery, the light suddenly feeling stark, and the overpowering sounds of conversation was regarded with slight disdain after having had the luxury of privacy not too long ago. But she still walked slowly through the crowds and around the tables. Once she exited, Edie breathed in deeply, happily, letting the cool air smooth over her chest. “I never thanked you properly, by the way, for the donation.” Edie looked at him pointedly. “A very generous donation.” Probably too generous, suggested by a raise of her eyebrow.

Garrick stood stoic in front of her before watching her move to grab her purse before agreeing with a smile. Raised a brow to her sudden change in disposition before offering a small smile in return and extending a hand to gesture before him and follow her lead. Moving swiftly through the brewery his hands settled into the pockets of his slacks while his dress shoes rhythmically clicked with each step taken.

Once accosted by the cool air of nightfall, Garrick turned his attention towards Edie once again. Walking beside her now as he let out a soft chuckle. "Was it very generous?" Shifting his icy stare to show his amusement with her choice of words. "Perhaps, but I believe it is for a good cause, Edith. Besides, I'm sure you will find an appropriate way to thank me." Turning his attention back ahead of them, that crooked smile still present on his features.

Her heels made a different sort of melody on the ground, a sharp click from the narrowness of its stem. Edie tilted her head at the rhetorical question, offering a gentle roll of her eyes. Of course it was generous, of course he knew exactly how money he’d contributed to the school. It didn’t matter to Edie whatever the intention was, really though. “Is that what it is then? You give to receive?”

The breeze caused a welcomed raise in in her skin. Her body temperature ran warmer than a mundane, so it was alleived by the fresh chill of the wind. Crossing her arms over her chest, Edie watched the gentle buzz of town unravelled for the weekend, still feeling her shoulders square but only somewhat tightly. “Do you like being an enigma, Garrick?”

Garrick smirked as he glanced over towards Edie and her realization of things. Shaking his head softly before he answered, "not completely, but it is pleasant when it works out that way." His hands still being tucked away in his suit jacket as he followed alongside her. The bottom of his dress shoes echoed the click of her heels.

A soft laugh escaped through his nose, keeping his eyes trained on the road ahead of them. "I do appreciate upholding my private life as private." Glancing over to Edith with a small smile. "I think the majority of us do, especially when we're scrutinized on a daily." Pausing as he motioned to the lapels of his jacket. "Would you care for my jacket, Miss Edith?"
